One thing I like about them and Karate Combat in general is they really put a lot of effort into preventing eye pokes. The Gloves have a natural curve to them so that helps prevent it but also the rule that you have to strike with a closed fist also helps prevent against this.

I really like those gloves. Wrist support seems very good, at least from the look of it. The padded area also seems a little less rectangular, which I sometimes find a bit uncomfortable with MMA gloves. These provide the accuracy and realism of MMA gloves and still allow for takedowns and catching kicks, but you can shell up at least a bit more, and they seem to decrease eyepoke potential. I think the extra padding is a good thing. Nowadays I'd actually prefer seeing a little less brutality and devastating damage in combat sports, especially looking at how many MMA fighters are going through absolute wars now and some of them are noticeably getting worn down with time. I like how Marc Goddard at times was stopping fights in Karate Combat quite early and decisively, so more protection and fighter safety is a plus in my book.

    • @joebiscuit2243
      @joebiscuit2243 Před rokem

Garbrandt or Ferguson are probably the most noticable fighters who had miles worn off by the span of one fight, Gaethje for Ferguson and TJ for Cody.
I agree on the early/decisive stoppages it might take away from the cool ko people want to see but I personally rather see my favorite fighter have a few extra fights on him and retire with minor injuries.
It's generally why MMA has seen less deaths than in Boxing because refs just let a clearly defeated fighter who's not okay get mauled.

The extra protection to the knuckles and wrist are really good ideas, I never was a huge fan of the traditional MMA gloves, because of the eye pokes and because the don't have much protection at all, with KC gloves you still can grapple, parry and catch kicks but with less doctor stoppages, less eye pokes and more protection at all.

    • @martial_matt

    Good to hear about protection.
Gloves seem to make fights i.e. whilst good for hand protection and the health of the fighter being hit; one assumes it makes it into more of a kicking based art with more protection on the hands and less on the feet.
For example compare Muay Thai and Lethwei, the latter being more of a punching art maybe due to les hand protection and being able to inflict more damage with punches???

The hybrid style gloves are so much better than UFC/MMA style gloves. Trevor Whitman has a fantastic style of glove for MMA that follows more hybrid and Pride FC style of glove, focusing on making sure you can make a fist with higher quality foam to prevent the stiffness while still making sure it's easy enough to grapple. Part of the reason I like karate combat are the gloves. I cannot wait to see you get in there. Wish you were able to fight at a slightly higher weight class to fight Quayhagen.

I love every aspect of it, the discipline, the hard work, the routine, the strength and knowledge I Mena I love everything about it. I don't want to hurt people nor do I enjoy that, now having said that if I ever did get into fighting hurting my opponent is what it's all about for me, we sfe fighting not there to be friends. Again having said that part I may have a switch that enables me to turn that on and off when appropriate. I served 9 years in the US Army, I was airborne infantry, went to ranger school was at one point my squads machine gunner amd then went back to regular rifleman. I was deployed numerous times 3 times to the middle east alone so having been a part of that environment may very well have taught me to use that on off switch. I did go thru training classes and courses the army calls warrior level I and or II and III which are basically MMA type courses because of all the urban combat going on at the time went for these and got into fighting through this avenue.
I love the whole fighting experience but I never understood fighterswho do this for a living living saying I don't like hurting people,, it's a confusing statement for me because I have the total opposite mind set. Does that make me a bad person or someone who hasn't learned to control their emotions during a fight??? Genuinely curious. Pretty close. My MMA sparring gloves are 7 ounces so these seem right between fight and sparring glove.

I hate boxing gloves. My hands always feel uncomfortable and I can never make a proper fist in them. MMA gloves of any kind Are infinitely more comfortable.

Yeah, that’s so true about boxing gloves. You sometimes forget how kinda unnatural most boxing gloves are tbh. Never being able to make a proper fist always feels weaker and susceptible to injuries if you’re technique is off. Wraps won’t protect you from everything. 🤷‍♂️
I’d much rather fight K-1 or Thai in 10z MMA-style mitts/gloves. For a start: you can actually clinch properly. 🙏

😀 heyhey i got a reply, awesome content, i might want to do the occasional bagwork in the karate style gloves rather than the mma gloves from now on! (Usually i wear 12 oz on the bags)...Perhaps the UFC should consider the extra wrist wrappage!!

4 pounds is heavy mma glove lol

Karate combat is disgusting, none of the competitors are prepared for ground and pound at all. Also not being able to hold your opponent makes you a sitting duck on the ground, it only leads to rocked guys getting blasted unconscious with no chance of defending

You can pull guard, you can up kick, you can sweep to reverse the position, or scramble for a single leg. These are all thing in Karate Combat do not to mention nearly a quarter of their roster has MMA experience.
