Another exit strategy that I sometimes use in sparring is to finish my combination with a hook and use the momentum of the punch to pivot around and then away. Sometimes that also sets up a nice cross or round kick to the torso or head if I've pivoted out and my opponent is still moving forward. It generally works best with aggressive fighters that like to push forward or fighters that are relatively stationery.

This is awesome, I'm definitely bringing these to the gym on my next sparring session. You describe chaotic combat situations with a level of clarity that you can usually only gain through a lot of experience, so getting them put in perspective with these videos is priceless. I'd love to see a counter-video to this, myself: Strategies for cutting off opponents as they exit or try to move away from pressure. Cheers!

That’s why having options will essentially create a rock, paper, scissors situation. With enough options you’ll make it difficult for your opponent to land on the exit đŸ‘ŒđŸœ

This is an fantastic video, Gabriel! This kind of info, while you make it seem simple in its presentation, is so vital to improving ones skillset and establishing that problem-solver style you do so well at breaking down.
Your explanations for layering offense and defense are so incredibly helpful for martial artists new and experienced. Thank you for making these videos - I feel like everybody training can take away something from each of them, and revisit later to continue to add layers to their game.

Are there any strategies similar to number 3 and 4 for long range pressure fighters. So the goal would be to be at kick range post offence but not giving up ground, recommend using push kicks instead of an arm push in strategy 3?

I know you asked from him,but i choose two areas to hit, like leg and his soler plexus(depending on his guard) and if i hit any of those 2 area with 100%~90% power 2-3 times, they become afraid(usually) .

  • @chadwithautism

Unless you're relatively advanced, I find that if you're not naturally very ballsy you could possibly be avoiding segments of the fight where you could be capitalizing and scoring your shots, when you place too much of an emphasis on exit strategies. The rhetoric is also very true for fighters who are too ballsy. Sparring with different guys all who at least give you some problems with different leverages and angles would more or less make you hone your defensive instinct to work in tandem with your style if you simply have a bit of weariness of not getting countered and reflect on your style and strategy on a deep enough level.
