I've grown up with Basset Hoiunds. Best doggos ever.
I own a Basset Hound, and I am really happy that I decided to buy one beacuse they make really good pets. The Basset Hound is hard to train, but all you need is just time. I'm a dog trainer, that's why training my dog was easier.
I really recommend this breed beacuse they make fantastic pets.
I'm about to go and adopt a Bassett hound and I was very curious to ask. How did you get your bassett hound to be potty trained? I know they are quite stubborn so I was curious on someones opinion and what they did
Take your dog outside every two to three hours and after naps and meals. Puppies tend to eliminate after playtime, so you should also take your dog outside then. If your dog eliminates, click the training clicker and give your dog a treat along with lots of praise. This helps the dog to develop positive associations with urinating and defecating outside. While you don't need a training clicker, the sound of the clicker, when used consistently, will strengthen praise and training for your dog's positive actions. Walking your dog as frequently as possible not reduces accidents, it also helps fight obesity, a common ailment among Basset Hounds.
Keep your dog in a crate when you are unable to supervise your dog. Dogs are unlikely to soil small areas in which they must sleep, and crate training helps dogs learn to control their bladder and bowels. Dogs should not be kept in their crates for longer than a few hours, as this increases the chances of an accident, and makes future mishaps more likely. This is especially true for puppies.
Take your Basset Hound outside immediately if they have an accident. This encourages an association between eliminating and being outside. Next clean up the mess with an odor neutralizer. Basset Hounds were originally bred for their scent-tracking ability and are strongly guided by their nose. If your dog smells urine or feces in the carpet, soiling the same spot again is much more likely.
PS. Each paragraph is each step.
Do u think an older basset like 4 years can be trained?I'm thinking of adopt one.he really needs a house.
@@shilpaverma4198 Well, yeah.
@@Kris_797 thanks
Saying 'they make a very good companion with children' is an understatement, they are so calm and tolerant they will happily just sit there while a young child pokes and prods them and pulls at their ears, cheeks and folds of skin, they really are gentle and sweet, like when you feed a dog by hand you gotta be careful because you might lose a finger, not with the Basset they will gently take food from you, no snatching no missing fingers, at least that's how mine used to take food
Bassets are wonderful pets. Gentle, funny, and smart. Wonderful companions.
I have had 4 basset hounds. Not a one of them was “low energy”. All of mine were quite active. One could even climb our chain link fence.
Mine is crazy, always on the move, always running and getting into trouble lol. He takes a nap in the middle of the day, and cuddles when it's around his bed time. Other than that there is nothing low energy about him, it's the opposite lol.
Bassets don’t have owners, they have staff! Bassets are extremely trainable, they love nothing more than pleasing their loved ones and if they cotton onto something you respond positively to they will do just to get the praise, the laughs, the hugs, the attention or the food…….. everything with the basset is about the food, at least in their eyes anyway!
Awesome post
Mine doesn’t have an owner, I’m more like a roommate
A well bred basset can weigh considerably more - ours is 36kgs at 5 years of age and quite muscular with an hourglass figure. Very active too - he thinks nothing of 10km+ walks on a daily basis. An absolutely wonderful breed! Negatives: slobbery and hair everywhere :)
Thank you for those information! Very helpful for other interested dog owners😊🐶
Speaking of obese, Meatball the Kentucky Behemoth is a solid 110lbs (50kg), name of YT channel is Eric Hatcher. The Legend, the Beast, the Fatman... Meatball goes by many names.
My boy hank is a big stubborn lovable playful goofball. I love him so much. Potty training him was a bit of a pain in the butt, but he eventually figured it out. He’s 3 now and he’s basically my son.
Yes, potty training is a challenge. Mine thankfully just started regularly using the bells hanging on the front door.
Bassett are great family pets, I love all three of mine,i love their long ears.
They’re like giant bunny’s
One of the cutest dogs

I had a feeling that I would find Dean The Basset Hound here in this video. His buddies Chief and Satchmo are a cute bonus.
Watching this as I snuggle my basset ❤️ his whole life is sniffing everything and anything and I love it
My favorite breed is the dachshund, but when i get property i will be adding a basset to my pack of 4. ❤🐾
Hounds for life.
Just got an 8 week little female. Price was right around what you said. And she is AKC. So very pleased. Her colors are awesome too.
I just got a male and I paid $2200!!! 😢 He's worth it
Labs and basset’s are the best family dogs. Currently have a basset and thinking of getting a lab soon. Ive found they’re a great mix. One keeps one active and the other keeps the other calm.
Friend had one. Stormin Norman. Sweet, but had a strong Hound smell.
I make basset hound videos on my granny’s basset hound called Bree and she only 2 years old! But she is very smart
Very good video , bit i disagree on a few topics.
1. Bath every 1-2 weeks is too much. I will say between 1-2 month.
2. Cleaning their ears once a week is not enough.
It should be gentle cleaning every day.
I really like the video and even laughed a bit, but the numbers and such is very wrong and that may be confusing people.
I would love an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier Video!
This Dogs Are so Cute,I Want them🥺
I lost my Bassethound a month ago. Yes they do have major health issues. So ,if u have a good income to afford a lot of Vet visits as they get older they are the most loving dog to have. Oh, they do get large benign tumours, means lots of surgeries. I can no longer afford this loving breed.
Mine had these mango flies bite wound/lumps. it was 3 of them. It took 2 visits per lump to get her back to the princess we knew,
Sorry you lost your dog. Very sad. I would love a basset hound but I'm really apprehensive due to the costs. Knee issues, prone to bloat, ears, eyes... I receive basset hound gifts and for now they'll have to do! Like my basset socks, cookie jar, oven mit, etc...my wife and friends get me this stuff...I like it and like I said it'll have to do!
I have had 6 of these magnificent creatures. I now have 2 female 10 week old basset puppies. Once you have a basset, you don’t want any other breed. BUT, none of mine had a low energy level 😆.
👍👍
Ah yes the Basset Hound. Natures door knob.
Beagles, please! 🐶❤️
Well go and find a beagle video.. Leave the bassetts be.
Tous aussi beau les uns que les autres j'adore ce chien le miens est décédé à 14 ans ...!! ❤
❤🍁
I actually saw one of these in real life on a bike ride! Wish I could have played with him. As I rode by he wanted to chase!
Are American Bassets smaller than British ones, my two weight 32 & 41 kilograms.
Calling them Sad Clowns is mean 😤
I agree. Our fur friends r definitely not "sad clowns". The bassets we have our highly intelligent, beautiful, gentle, sweet & loyal. This thinking they r "sad" is just a foolish human way of thinking & "clown" is not appropriate way of thinking because although they may make us happy & delight us with their actions & vocalizations, they really not aware how desperate some of us r (me!) 2 have something wholesome & real 2 relate 2. Have a good day & thanx 4 sharing your thoughts.
Like the video? Please let me know!
AWWWWWWW
Is there anyway to tell how droopy their eyes are going to be? Is one type’s eyes more prone to “droopage” more than others
It just depends on the genes of the parents. Take a look at mom and dad if you purchase from a breeder.
Yea I’m not sure about my basset because my dogs doesn’t like onther dogs and a guard dog sorta
Boss Hogg on the Dukes of Hazard had one as a pet.
Mine is named after him, Flash! I think it was Roscoes dog though
Our two are incredible family dogs. Definitely utterly useless guard dogs though lol
Check out our channel to see their antics in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Lazy ? This is somewhat true, but when they get the "zoomies" you better just stay out of thier way lol
True that. Fun to watch.
We have a Bassett Hound or George
A bath once or twice a week?!
Yes, they are smelly
Some Basset Hounds can weigh 70-80lbs even when young.
I had one that weighed 93 pounds. My smallest one was 55 pounds.
@@peanutoreo8052 I believe it‼️Bassets have big bone structure and can get heavy‼️When we first looked for my Basset Hound, his dad jumped up to be petted and practically knocked me down‼️He was a very friendly Basset and didn't mean any harm though‼️👍😀🇺🇲🇨🇵🇧🇪
Nope. They are not guard dogs. They would probably sit there wagging their tail while a burgurlar ripped u off. But u never have to worry about neighbors complaining about incessant barking or howling. Unless u go off and leave it in a strange place for too long of a time like a hotel room.
They think rapper Trina they momma
All dogs suffer from the same illnesses as humans do.
It’s disappointing that he didn’t tell the truth about their messiness. Their slobber is so profuse and every time they shake their head they sling stringy bit so spit all over the room. You have to wipe their face every few minutes to prevent this.
The drool can be awful. Our last basset (a rescue) was a dry mouth. She only drooled when waiting for food. Our first basset could give you a shower with his drool.
