@@Litansan Not even one main game between this and MK11 and erasing Shang Tsung from existence already means nothing.
I had a theory that Shang Tsung is possibly a constant through all timelines, someone that has to exist, which would make him important to the fate of Earthrealm. This trailer has Liu Kang saying right before Shang walked out that there is one constant. So despite him trying to erase him from existence, he can't. I'd say this is almost setting up some kind of redemption arc for Shang Tsung to eventually, probably not this game but in a future one, come back to Earthrealm and defend it as he once did before his ego steered him down a dark path. Seeing as how he has learned the dark arts again in this, that path is probably just as necessary as him existing.
This reset is actually great now that I've had a chance to think about it and see Shang Tsung still in play in this trailer. Him being a constant across timelines is basically subtly saying he's the most important figure in MK lore. There's more than likely a point of no return for him morality wise, but this is set 500 years before the original MK game, so he most likely hasn't reached that point yet. But he is full of anger and vengeance judging by how he mopped the floor with everyone but ultra OP Liu Kang.

I'm assuming what Liu Kang learned from Kronika is that you can't simply erase your problems. Good and Evil are constants that must exist in the Mortal Kombat timeline. If there was another option, Kronika wouldn't even have to fight the heroes in the first place

The Sub-Zero apperance makes me wonder which brother it is. The dialogue implies it could be Kuai Liang but the lack of facial scar and the fact that this is sort of a reboot makes me think it's Bi-Han. Also I'm hoping for a Smoke, Ermac and Reptile comback!🙌

There are so many fan favorites that need to be in this, but the one I hope for the most is Skarlet. She was such a weak punching bag for everyone, you literally had to play perfectly to be good, while Scorpion could deal more damage with two abilities than you with a full combo on Skarlet. I just want them to make my girl at least a decent character in the next game

Probably trying to show as few characters as possible to build up hype. All the characters in the trailer were basically a given to be in the main roster, so I'm guess they wanted to hold off from revealing too many characters

Actually, I'm hoping they get away from that now and this is the official timeline moving forward. The downside is the tournament takes place every 50 years, so many fighters would simply age out after one or two games unless Liu plays extreme favorites.

I think the biggest hype moment for me was Kitana and Mileena sharing the carriage; it seems in this era they clearly grew up together as sisters and Kitana knows Mileena’s origins.
PLEASE give us protective big sister Kitana!
That's how it was in the original timeline. The timeline from the last three games had things altered due to Raiden interfering, causing a butterfly effect.

I hope Onaga makes a return in this rebooted timeline. He was always my favorite MK villain, and my favorite MK character design in general.
Imagine Shao is still in his original place of Outworld protector and the emperor is Onaga Kahn and he's the one that taught Shang Tsung the dark arts this time.

Absolutely in love with Kitana's new design not big on Scorpion and Sub-Zero's I think it's the lack of hoods and those awful masks overall I love the aesthetic. Would've liked some gameplay though maybe at the PS Showcase next week 🤔
They'll probably have better cosmetics, hopefully not drowned under microtransactions or extremely time consuming and tedious to unlock.

@@KeyBladeMaster-Dan I'm fine with a gear system aslong as it doesn't affect gameplay or is extremely hard to grind for. But going back to a costume/skin system wouldn't really be bad either, it would def simplify it.

@@uryenatienza4093 I never really had a problem with the unlocks in MK11. The towers were only like 15-20 minutes each and you got a shitload of cosmetics from each of them. If they do something similar, I just hope they get rid of the mandatory modifiers, that shit was SO annoying

I have a feeling with the particular dialogue that plays when Scorpion and Sub-Zero are on screen, I have a feeling it's insinuating that in this new era, they're both Shirai-Ryu and maybe even brothers by blood. I could be completely wrong but again, new era shit's going to be different in some ways. I'm also quite curious how Raiden will play given he's mortal.

So I guess we’re going with the MCU time rules where Liu Kang can’t get rid of Shang Tsung or the other villains bc they’re important to the timeline somehow such as what we seen with Mileena here.
Though what I do hope from all of this two things which essentially leads up to having Reptile join, one Liu Kang manages to save the Zataran’s (Reptiles race) and resettles them in either Edenia or Outworld or unfortunately this too would be a constant so Liu Kang tries to at least have him hook up with Katana and have him become her spymaster or whatever. Either way both of these has Reptile becoming a infiltrator either Katana or Mileena. Hopefully it’ll be the former, I think it’s high time for Reptile to be playable on the good side and get some sweet wins finally.
