  • Our video is a guided walk in the beautiful valley of Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales. We start from Muker and walk along side the River Swale passing the ruined stone mine buildings and waterfall at Swinner Gill. We stop to admire East Gill Force just before we walk on to Keld. From Keld we walk back to Muker on the Pennine Way taking a detour to admire Kisdon Force. This is an easy to moderate 6.75 mile walk.

Hi Vanda, we are really spoilt for choice for great walks in the Yorkshire Dales. Muker if fabulous. We have been in the Dales this last few weeks looking for new walks we haven't filmed. We think we have found another five so as soon as the weather gets better we will filming these and have them on our site soon. All the best The Taxi Driver

Lovely, I still hope to explore the dales someday. I could almost see James Herriott riiding along one of the pastures! Cheers,

Planning to undertake this walk in the next two months. Looks absolutely fab for a challenging dog walk. This walk might finally tire out the dog.

    Hello
    as a suggestion:
we found an alternative round from Muker to Keld and back, which is also very scenic and picturesque:
one way follows the Swale between the river and the Pennine Way and the way back follows the "Old Corpse Way" across Kisdon Hill with beautiful views down into the valleys.
    Best Harald

Thank you very much Sir, I am particularly interested in the mine sites you passed, with some good distant orienting views looking back upon them. I shall have to go to Swinergill and have a good mooch about. Kind Regards.

Hi, the mine workings are fantastic when you get up close. It is hard to believe that most of the mines have been shut down for a very long time but there is still lots to see. If you look at our video Great Pinseat from Surrender Bridge near Reeth you will see a lot more mine workings there, this is also a great walk with some good waterfalls. All the best The Taxi Driver

thetaxidriverj ; Thank you kind Sir. I will take a look at that video, although I am aware of the Old Gang Mines, having done an underground mine trip from Hard Level to the Brandy Bottle incline some years ago. I myself have recently uploaded some videos of the Swaledale area, please feel free to take a quick peep, if you feel so inclined, at On Any Sundry Mule You Tube . com. Kind Regards.

Hi British Coastline, the Keld area is a very beautiful walk and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Muker and Keld are not far from the famous Amanda and Clive Owen's farm and their large family at Ravenseat and also the famous Tan Hill which is a walk we enjoyed doing and is on our CZcams site and website. We actually saw Amanda and Clive waving to us. All the best The Taxi Driver.

History Lesson. On the night of 15th Febuary 1942 a crew from No.10 Squadron, stationed at RAF Leeming, detailed to attack the French port of St Nazaire during the night of the 15th Feb The aircraft took off around 18:00, one of the crews landed after only a few minutes as the pilot's escape hatch was open. The remaining five aircraft continued with the raid. The weather over St Nazaire was poor with complete cloud cover so the crew of L9619 dropped their bombs at their ETA over the target area. Whether they were anywhere near St Nazaire or not is not known. The return flight was fairly uneventful, the crew was able to use the Cottesmore and Church Fenton radio beacons to plot a course back to Leeming. The D/F station at Leeming provided the crew with a magnetic course (QDM) of 016o which (accounting for the ~13o of variation between Magnetic and True North) put the aircraft a little way west of south from the airfield. The crew flew this course for 15 minutes and were then given the same bearing which hey flew for a further 10 minutes. At this point hills were spotted by the Flight Engineer and Tail Gunner. The pilot immediately began climbing to 5,000 feet but only had a few minutes of fuel left so ordered the crew to abandon the aircraft. They all landed safely in the area of Cumbria to the west of the crash site. The aircraft continued on before it dived into the ground on Ashgill Side to the south of the village of Keld at around 01:45 on the 16th February. The crew all died. Not much remains at the crash site today, there are a few bits of metal bearing the 57 type number however.

Your camera is slightly out of focus and exposure is out otherwise it would be a great film

Hi Paul, the weather conditions were very bad that day, very windy and rainy, to be fair the camera made the conditions look better than they were. We kept having to stop and wait for the wind to die down and the rain to stop. Sometimes it is not always easy to pick the right weather as we work full time and this is done on our days off. As we edited this walk we did think about scrapping it but decided we needed to put it on to let people see we walk and film in all weathers and conditions. Thank you for your comment.
