The new Dynafit Ultra 100 is a surprisingly fun shoe with plenty of durable midsole, a super grippy Pomoca outsole and a tough, well-built upper. But the shoe isn't without its issues, specifically in its sizing and fit. What are YOUR thoughts on the Ultra 100?

I had a chance to borrow these shoes for tests during a weekender BootCamp in the Tatra mountains and fell in love with them and ordered a pair right after coming home. Super comfy ride without a feeling of instability or sluggishness. On the contrary, it's fast and nimble if you need to and cushened to take you far on an ultra-event day. Never had problems with fit, although locking it right beneath this net covering the tongue is a struggle. Own a pair in a flashy blue
eon-green color that calls for attention but that's OK in running apparel. Also note that Dynafit (Austrian-Germany brand) is now a part of the same corporation as Salewa (north Italy brand), a well-known mountaineering brand in Europe, and is quite available in the same stores branded as Salewa.
Gus - a real mastermind behind those reviews, he have to approve everything
I run my first 100 k last week with it .. i just loved it !!!
I’m on my 4th pair. Love them. I haven’t had the fit issues, but have also had to size up a full size. I find this shoe incredibly versatile, it can handle the long days and performs exceptionally well on class 4 scrambles. Really enjoyed the review.
Did you feel them stiff in upper sol where is laces?Did you trampled them during time?
I like a lot yours reviews, very honestly look a like, straight to the point, no gimmicks. Good job, thanks! 👍
The new Dynafit Ultra 100 is a surprise of a shoe - great for long distance hauls but with some serious fit issues. Have you tried the Ultra 100 or any Dynafit trail shoes yet? FYI: yes, they pronounce it DEENA-fit :)
I have these and love them. I only went up a half size. I’m going to try a full size up on the next pair just to see if it makes a difference. Had issues with one pinky toe the first time out, I’ve worn super thin socks since and it’s not been an issue. I run up Tiger and throughout the cascades and they are a great shoe for that kind of terrain.
I got a pair of the Ultra 100 to test just a day before a 50k. I took them out on an easy 15k run to see if they would work for the ultra the next day. After 10k I knew I would leave them at home for exactly the reasons you mention. The fit is precise and the forefoot was just too narrow for me. The shoes are made to last and the outsole is versatile. Great review, as always :)
By "I kinda wish i'd sized up another half size" do you really mean "I kinda wish Dynafit had designed their shoe around an actual human foot"?
HAHA, yup :)
Great review. Got an elusive pair recently, wanted something with more cushion than Salomon but not a huge hola. Think this should work well.
Did you also have to size up?
HIVE MIND: best serious trail shoe for long/straight/bony feet. Everything this release season is coming up pigeon-toed.
I ran a few miles in it. I can say that I like this shoe. Not as much as my Hoka One One Mafate Evo2. But I will do a 37 miles tomorrow in the Pyrenees and will take the Ultra 100 to begin.
How it go with the Dynafits?
Got em to replace my SG4, a I was looking for a more precise fit. Been very happy with these Ultra 100, sizing up one size did the job very well for me. I have a high arch and been wearing Sidas sense high in my other shoes, but didn't feel like I needed it in the Dynafit, guess they are really well built for high arches. Laces are a bit crap indeed, but everything else is daaaaamn good !
Thnks for another very good review. Sure sounds like a great option for long haulin' for someone with low volume feet like me. It looks, though, like it is quite high and "built up" around the ankles... Is that something you felt? I.e. did it chafe/press on your ankles?
I sized up a full size up. Sizing up a size and a half is a good recommendation. I wish I would have done this. A very good shoe if you can get it to fit your foot, especially on technical terrain.
Waiting the day that you try Vj sports shoes
when it hit the market in europe last year, it appeared just weeks later on facebook or ebay to be sold frequently with very little miles due to the bad fit. not even the dynafit athletes are using it in ultra races at the moment. ran 10k in those and couldnt stay further away from this shoe since then. the ultra 50 is supposed to be way better.
I just got these +1 (U.S. M. 11.5) from my normal 10.5 and the length is a great match- but wow still a narrow toe box. Does going up to a 12 get much more width or is it all in the length?! Really like the shoe aside from the fit.
Good evening, did you break them are they now ok?Did you run in your size or one size+?
Can I recommend the Montrail FKT? It's a very simple, stripped down design that's just perfect for my foot. It's cheap, has an internal gusset, relatively wide toebox, uses TPU and EVA, and super comfortable. Also sticky rubber. Only downside is it's a bit plain and without a super unique ride? But so far it's been great for me.
Yep, I agree, it's a solid shoe! Nothing special about it but for $60, it gets the job done for daily miles.
@@df540148 Absolutely. And I found my pair for 45$! Incredible deal. If the drop was slightly lower it'd be an all-time favorite. I really do think Montrail has something interesting with their EVA design, although maybe this is lost in the age of super foams.
Had one pair last year they amazing reliable mountain running shoe. It was a hard pick between them and the SG4 for this year. Dynafit is one of the best mountain brands. With brands like Dynafit or La Sportiva you will not find yourself in cases like “This shoe is amazing but only on dry and non tech trails” . I wonder what the result of the review would have been if the reviewer had a more narrow foot 🤔.
I have a normally wide foot, but am very vocal in preferring more room for foot-swell on longer efforts. In this case, the sharp angle of the lateral toebox/vamp does a disservice to the pinky toe at the expense of long term comfort. Very reminiscent of SLAB shapes with room for improvement.
Woah sizing up 1.5+ that's a deal breaker for a foreign company where I can't try on at my local run shop.
Where are you located? I can check to see if we have some near you. The website also has 30 day free returns, so if you get a pair and it doesnt fit, send it right on back!
I love the dynafit shoes. For me the sizing is +1. Once you figure that out, it's not an issue anymore.
The laces are terrible - just take a different pair of laces, that's it. What you get are high quality shoes, durable, comfy and perfect for most trails!
Can we put something like Salomon quick lace on them?
I find it quite odd that you need to size up. I use a lot of different Dynafit shoe‘s I have the same size as with my Hoka‘s or other running shoes.
You should definitely try the ULTRA50 from Dynafit. The fit is way better than on the Ultra100 and the cushioning is still great for longer distances.
Does “precision” mean narrow? Did you need space for length? Or just width?
Yes, that is true for Inov-8 nomenclature as well.
It's a shape characterization - great for nimbly hopping across rocks with accuracy, but a decent fit through midfoot/heel. I would say "narrow" doesn't accurately describe the feeling.
How's the fit compare to Solomon sense ride 3? Is the foot space equal?
It's not as rounded through the toe-box and feels closer to an SLAB style of fit.
@@TheGingerRunner thanks... Think I'll buy a new pair of Sense Ride then
Wanted to love but only like this shoe. Comfortable for buffed trails and dirt roads. Too tall and tippy for anything even remotely technical. Upper is hard and unwieldy and the lacing doesn’t achieve the right degree of lockdown, but grippy and soft underfoot. I’m still in the “why” category when there are such better ultra options for road-trail, especially the Craft CTM Carbon Ultra and many of the Hokas. If you do try, go up at least one full size.
Looks like a good winter shoe +/- snowshoe running
Precision is the new term for narrow? 🤷🏻♂️
I consider them different. The midfoot/heel aren't narrow or bothersome, so I wouldn't consider the shoe "narrow". It's literally just the lateral toebox shape. Precision makes more sense as a descriptor in this case as it's designed with that in mind - think SLAB shoe shape.
Everything I’ve ever tried from Dynafit/Salewa was an awkward fit, even their boots 🤷♂️
Whats the drop on these?
6 mm
See 1:45 :)
I encourage you to try the Ultra 50. Noticebly wider in the forefoot, better fit, better lacing system (with room for improvement), stiffer than the Alpine but very comfortable for long distances, and with outstanding Pomoca outsole with lugs for every terrain. For me the Ultra 100's overall stack height is overkill.
So dynamite should be pronounced deanamite?
or Deenasaur.
Who's Deena?
That's how they pronounce it because they're weird.
Surely it is not DEE-nah-fit!
Otherwise good review 😉
See their own pronunciation :)
Dynafit is from Austria. In many countries The letter Y is pronounced EE. Surely you must understand that not the whole world pronounce letters the american way !!
I was only teasing. I'm from Scotland and live in NZ, so yeh I realise that the American way is not the only way!
@@sturmunro That's okay. You're forgiven mister Munro...... A mix of Scot and Kiwi accents sounds interesting !!!
Might be an awesome shoe, but "Heel Preloader" sounds like the biggest marketing gimmick of all time.
Poor fit is a dealbreaker, no matter the grip. Bummer.
I didn't buy them because of the fit... It was unweareble
Another super slim, hyper modern shoe that is not in the shape of a human foot.
