- An overview of the history of Portugal. Great trading nation and colonial power of yore, Portugal became one of the West’s poorest nations in the 20th century before undergoing a renaissance in recent years.
Portugal has become the preferred destination for French people who wish to settle or invest in another European state, due to its proximity to France, its mild weather, its cost of living (30% lower than that of France) and its economic dynamism… We look back on the history of this country which has had its fair share of ups and downs. A former great colonial power, Portugal then became the poor relation of the West, before experiencing a relative renaissance.

Portugal is a medium sized country in the European context. And the country didn´t go to poverty after the end of it´s colonial empire. You could show a bit more of respect towards the history of Portugal...
if you compare it with other colonial powers such as uk,france, the dutch, spain,or even belgium for that matter.Portugal is the least in terms of everything.Quite surprising for a country that ruled the seas
@@Everythinz not necessarily. Portuguese is much more spoken worldwide than Dutch or Belgian, even possibly French. Its a much larger nation than Netherlands or Belgium by area. Economically its not much behind Spain in GDP per capita, but ahead of Greece.
can t blame em ... they see everything through this transatlantic pro EU kinda glasses ... and portugal was never mutch in a spot light so that everyone got a feeling of this land ... i guess the problem was always not enough people from there
Portugal is bigger than a lot of European countries, medium size for sure
Teu communist massonic coup in 74 destroyed the country
I don’t think it’s accurate to say the language was born in Galicia. It comes from a region that includes the northern part of Portugal
Great job!
very informative. learned something new

You should do a bit more of research before saying that the country went to poverty after losing its colonial empire. In 1960 Portugal was the least developed country in Europe and it had colonies... It's not like that!
And another thing: Portugal is actually not an emigration country anymore. The emigration tax fell 30% in less than 60 years and it was about 19,5% in 2019. In fact, the neighbour region of Galicia has nowadays a higher emigration tax than Portugal and it has increased a lot in the last decade.
In the last years, the population actually grew due to immigration.

But at least Portugal remains portuguese.
Economic miracle lol, what a bad joke to tell to your French audience
Portugal's biggest mistake was not turning to its European heritage earlier but then again, Spain was on the way.
