In this video, I don’t actually do any “work”, but rather discuss a slight “dilemma” I have regarding future mini-split orders, and how I should ideally prepare my wood 🪵 for them!

Hey Ken, I'm relatively new to the CZcams firewood community and just subscribed to your channel today. You might try mini-splits that are a little bit bigger. I found that 1" to 1-1/4" x 5" work well in the Mesa XL and burn a little longer. They actually give you a little more "reaction time" to add more before they turn to ash. I see no issue bucking the 16" rounds into 5" rounds. By the time you take your kerf into account, they will be just over 5". I would plan on having some "chocks" available so the rounds aren't constantly trying to run away from you. Regarding the 11-14" stuff, I would sell that for the bigger smokeless fire pits. They would be perfect for the bigger units. I found that cutting split firewood down on a miter saw to be a pain in the butt and can be dangerous if you get the least bit distracted. I won't say that I'll never do it again, but I'm going to avoid it as much as possible. Regards...

Hi Ken. Got your sticker today. I would cut your beech at 5inch. The beech needs to dry right. Split a bunch up so it can finish drying. Keep selling what you have that’s dry. If you split down the beech it will dry fast.

Sounds great Al…!!! I don’t have a huge demand for Beechnut splits (right now) so I’ll chunk some splits up for tabletop mini-splits when needed. I also have another avenue for mini oak chunks to pursue, that might be more time saving than the current methods. Stay tuned!!! Thanks for watching! Looking forward to getting your stickers too!

Rebuck half of that beech, and get them split for mini stoves. The rest of the beech, split as is for firewood. Keep cuttin' Ken!

Thanks for the tips! Definitely 👍 a long term option for the future orders! Thanks again for the watching Travis! Cheers! 🍻

Hey Ken if you need some right away I would use the already drying splits. its going to be hard to run a chainsaw on those rounds. once you get some longer logs in then cut the 5inch rounds off. Especially if you get some real big stuff its easier to handle the rounds if they are 5in rather then 16in

I would say work what you have currently and buck thinner cookies in the future. The thin cookies will dry faster and by the time you run out/low of the longer stuff the thin cookies should be low enough moisture content to fill you orders.

Sounds like a plan, Lyle! That is the general consensus so far. Many thanks for watching!

The sooner you get them split down the better they will dry.👍👍

I would buck your rounds to 5" before splitting. Cutting and resplitting other dry firewood to tabletop sizes should only be done when you are out of dry small sizes and if you don't loose money on it. The advantage of bucking to 5" and then splitting to tabletop size is that the wood is very small and will dry very fast if exposed to sun and wind.

Good morning Ken…I’m with you, I’d bite the bullet and start with the stuff you’ve already got drying. And then fill in with cutting those rounds to 5”. You should be in good shape if you get an order in, and as you know..keeping those customers happy is top priority. Have a great time at dinner. 🔥🪵

Thank you for your kind words, Mike! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. I believe this is the path I will take going forward. I’m just not sure how I want to buck and season 5 inch thick cookies of Beechnut…! I don’t own a tractor or have IBC totes to store them in….

@@kenskuts maybe it’s time Ken ? Haha everyone needs a tractor and 300 totes just sitting around I think.
