    Awesome video! I've been wondering about a good way to get foil on leather without a dedicated machine, and now all my questions are answered. Thanks!

    I haven't gotten the same results with Quill that you have on the veg tan. Couple of questions:1) Did you just leave the setting as "pen" , or did you tell Maker3 it was a marker, or calligraphy, or something else? 2) Did you choose a different pressure? 3) Did you use the standard (not fine or bold) for all the ones you made?
    Straight lines look good, but long arcs are not foiling.

    A possible idea for a follow up might be how long the foil quill veg tan leather holds up on its own vs with a protective finish such as resolene! As always love your videos!

    Hey there. Does it wash away/peel off when washed? I am planing to use it in leather(logo stamp) in a bag that will be washed

    Awesome! I’ve been experimenting with these options at home. And quickly had to look to other foiling methods for leather. Can you please make a video showing how you use the Quill in the A clamp? Cricut wants the foiling tool to be loaded in the B clamp and the design gets screwy.

    • @SpringbokCraftCo
      @SpringbokCraftCo  Před 2 lety +3

      You have to take the pen adapter out of clamp A and then insert the Foil Quill with the correct adapter. And you basically push it in as far as it goes and then close the clamp. When you're in design space, you treat the foil quill as a pen as opposed to the 'foil option' and you basically just use it as if it were a pen.

    Did you "case" the leather first? That is, did you wet it down before etching?

    So since the Cricut foiling kit is a bust how about trying it out as a debossing tool since their debossing tool wasn’t super great.

    So I just bought a brand new Foil Quill to use with my new Maker...opened it up, got a nice smooth piece of leather taped down, taped the foil over it beautifully, and tried to create a foil design with the fine tip. The tip ripped the foil...repeatedly. I tried again using "less" pressure and it still ripped. What am I doing wrong? It's not like the tool was overheated or covered in residue. Is my design too small? My Cricut foil system had no problem creating that exact design on a piece of card stock. I'm using the "Kraft Board" as the material setting...should I use something else? It's not a thick piece of leather but it's not like...glove thin either. Probably 2mm. Argh, sorry for all the questions, I'm just so frustrated!

    • @traceybartlam7737
      @traceybartlam7737 Před rokem

      It’s probably too thick. The Foil Quill is not meant to be used with the cricut - it actually invalidates the warranty if cricut find out so there won’t be an appropriate setting for such thick material - your machine won’t have a clue what pressure to use. I do like the Foil Quill results but like that the Cricut system partially ejects the mat which makes it much easier to take off foil before cutting

    Will the foil Quil void the cricket warranty?

    • @SpringbokCraftCo
      @SpringbokCraftCo  Před 2 lety

      I think so, so it's ideal for after that warranty period ends.

    What do you mean you would not recommend any foiling tool on chrome-tanned leather? You just need to use a real foiling press and not these craft kit things.

    • @SpringbokCraftCo
      @SpringbokCraftCo  Před 2 lety

      Yep! I just don't recommend it on the Cricut. But a foil press works great.

  • @andreatthatsme
    @andreatthatsme Před 2 lety +2

    Cricut and silhouette are the worst. Think outside the box. There are companies making machines that you don't have to buy a new one every 9 months to a year. My sizzix eclipse2 is a good machine. They stopped making it but it also didn't require changes like these two brands.

    How did you get the masking tape off the mat? I've used blue painters tape with no problem but the masking tape is like having a kid who won't leave home even after 40 years.
