      I'm a brand new never-seen-a-Cricut-machine-before-in-my-life person. I bought double-sided faux leather to make earrings which is waaay thicker than the paper thin setting on the Cricut Maker. The blade that comes with the Maker won't cut through it. Can you tell me if there is an automatic setting I could use instead? Or is there some way to do it manually?
      Love your videos. Thanks for putting all this information out there for the rest of us!

      @@linguisticlingo Hi, thanks for your comment! Welcome to the wonderful world of Cricut! Really thick double sided faux leather will have to be cut with the knife blade using the Maker. You could also try the deep point blade if you have an Explore Air 2. The deep point blade comes in a black housing and is an extra purchase - it works with both the Explore Air 2 and the Maker. The knife blade is also an extra purchase, but it only works with the Maker. You can see both blades on my Favorite Products page on my blog here: amyromeu.com/my-favorite-products/

      Hi. I am having a problem with my foil not taking on the leather. I used to circuit leather. The black and silver work together but it is fuzzy. And I used the thin setting and fine tip. Any suggestions. Maybe my leather is too thick.

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  Před 3 lety

      @@jrbboop Hi, unfortunately, no. The foil is "transferred" to the material after it runs through the Cricut on the first pass. The foil is no longer on the foil sheet. You would need to apply a new sheet of foil to apply a second layer, but it would be difficult to get the second foiling to line up again with the original design. Have you tried using a bolder tip? That may help.

    • @jrbboop
      @jrbboop Před 3 lety

      @AmyRomeu  Před 3 lety

      Hi, Pam! Thank you so much for your kind comment! I'm glad you are finding value in my videos - that's my goal. :)
      To answer your question, yes, you can use any pattern or design to foil onto leather. However the foiling tool doesn't fill in areas, it draws in a series of lines. So a floral line drawing or a sunburst of lines like the designs I show in this video are perfect, but something like a circle shape would only foil as a circle outline, not a filled in circle shape. I hope that makes sense! :)

      @AmyRomeu  Před 3 lety

      Hi, Mary! Thanks for your comment. First, I wanted to let you know Cricut has just released the foil transfer tool for the Cricut Joy - so you don't have to have the Maker to cut faux leather and foil. :) To answer your other questions - foiling lasts longest on smooth faux leather that doesn't have a shiny coating or other treatment on top. That being said, you don't want to wash it handle it a lot, or else the foil may start to rub off over time. I hope that helps! Thank you. Amy

    Hi Amy, thank you for this, they are gorgeous! I tried it but sadly my faux leather was a little rough and so the foil didn't take, so I used leather look paper which was also pebbled but its much thinner than the faux leather and it foiled beautifully. Then I cut the same out of the faux leather and heat n bonded the two together. You cant tell the difference between the paper and the leather and they seem to stiffen each other together and now I have pretty on both sides. Hi, you can cut Cricut brand genuine faux leather with the Deep Point Blade, the one in the black housing. However, Cricut doesn't recommend trying to foil on genuine leather, just faux leather. Something about the natural oils in faux leather. I hope that answers your question! :)

      Hi, thanks for your comment! I've heard of the foil rubbing off occasionally, especially if the faux leather has a glossy coating on it, or is textured. You could try sealing the foil with a polyacrylic sealer (a spray, not one you brush on).
      Another idea is from my friend Natalie at NeliDesign. She uses a waterproof spray for shoes to protect the foil on faux leather. She has a CZcams video and a written tutorial here: nelidesign.com/faux-leather-and-foil-how-to-make-luggage-tags/

    Hi Amy I see faux leather wasn't in your list for foiling. I spoke to Cricut and they said it should be. After a whie on the phone we figured out that because I had changed my faux leather setting in material settings, I have the Maker, it wasn't recognising it. If you set your faux leather back to original settings it comes up in the list for foiling.

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  Před rokem +1

      Hi, Jan! Thanks for your question. You may be able to, but the optimal results of foiling come from uniform and direct pressure from the foil tip onto the material. • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi, Lola! Thanks for your comment. I have not seen any significant rub off, but I think it depends on how much you handle the foiled item because oils from your skin will transfer onto the foiled surface repeatedly over time. Cricut says faux leather takes the foiling transfer better than genuine leather because of the natural oils in genuine leather, so I would think a lot of handling will have an impact over time. If you wanted to try sealing the foil, I would suggest using a light spray of a matte polyurethane spray (not a brushed on sealer).

      Hi, Lea! What kind of faux leather did you use? Pebbled or smooth? Thick or thin? You may need to increase the pressure to “more” next time.
