  • To commemorate the 5th anniversary of Dave retiring from late night television (his last show was on May 20, 2015), I've put together a series of "first and last" appearances, the latter paying tributes in their own ways to the last giant of late night (h/t Jason Zinoman).
    Part 20. Martin Short
    1. December 3, 1982
    2. May 6, 2015
    The 2015 guest appearance comes from Andrew Lynch's superb CZcams upload, linked here: • Video
    Regarding Marty's "first appearance" card: As he correctly pointed out, that photo comes from his second Late Night appearance on April 29, 1983.

    Fantastic. Marty talks about his first appearance here often and it’s great for me to finally see it with the fake ending!

    Definitely top guest material is Marty Short. He definitely honed his comedy craft as a guest on all the late night talk shows.

    Short was one of Dave's funniest guests, over the 33 years in late night TV.

    After watching all of these, Mr. Short is the man I'd love to see the full retrospective of... someday!

    I have watched the Dave Rest In Peace song so many times. Today I was listening to Mel Torme and my wife said, “That guy sounds like Martin Short!”

    Can anyone point me to the full Martin Short segment commemorating the one-year anniversary of Dave’s bypass? I saw part of it, equally hilarious

      All of Marty’s Letterman appearances are included in my multipart compilation of SCTV cast members on Dave.

    I'm confused. Short was on SNL for 84-85. Dave says here he joined and the tag for this is clip 82. What am I missing?

    • @dongiller
      @dongiller  Před 4 lety +2

      Dave said that Marty had recently joined the cast of SCTV, not SNL.

    • @Swonder1972
      @Swonder1972 Před rokem

      The picture text said it was his first appearance in '82. Short corrected him and said that picture was from SNL several years later
