Tony Hatch & His Orchestra ~ Man Alive Theme Tune (1965)

- Here we have the "Man Alive" theme tune from the very popular TV series that ran in the UK from 1965 to 1981.. I don't think this tune that was done by "Tony Hatch" ever charted, but i think it's a great instrumental and well worth a spin on my channel.. The lovely lady that can be seen here is "Julie Christie" and the footage is from the classic UK film "Billy Liar" and i thought the two went well together here.. Thanks for watching...

Great music and it was a great film too...
Great tune. Reminds of growing up in the sixties and Man Alive theme tune. Cool 😊
Love this theme. Beautiful Julie Christie is a bonus..
Absolutely brilliant tune 👌 goes well with the video too
Nothing evokes my childhood and early adolescence like this tune!
wow the beautiful Julie Christie... one of my first crushes
She's a beautiful woman.. Thanks for watching...
Beautiful music and beautiful Julie
A wonderful and innocent hopeful scene of what the future might be, but never was.........but we live in hope............!
Julie Christie perfection
Almost forgot about this one. Julie Christie definitely a gorgeous lady. There was just something about her eyes.👍
Yeah she was one good looking lady in her day, and she was awesome in this film.. Thanks for watching mate...
A very evocative piece that, for me, conjures up the long-lost world of my youth. The choice of accompanying film clip is masterly. No specially-commissioned video could have complemented the music more perfectly than young Ms. Christie, breezing her way into 'Billy Liar'. Hard to believe now but in 1963, that skirt she is wearing would be have considered daringly short!
Almost brings me to tears Robert and I'm a 66-year-old Londoner. Reminds me so much of my Inner London youth until I moved 12 miles away in 1983 to the house that I still live in. This is the Theme for The Man Alive Series and I have just seen, once again, "Man Alive Hyde Park" and it has totally filled me with nostalgia. It was just a normal day in the park but personified the idiosyncrasies and eccentricities of the England of that era perfectly. The Lady from Westbourne Terrace who emigrated to Canada and still sent money for flowers for her pet Cat buried in The Pet Cemetary there resonates. That programme was 1967 and the cat lived from 1922-46....
Oh wow, this brings back memories for sure, I was 9 when this started, that makes me 36 now....I wish....63 more like it, enjoyed this Carl, thanks, john
Ha ha, yeah it's amazing John how we slip up with the maths as we get older mate (smile) glad this one brought back some nice memories for ya, and thanks for putting a smile on my face...
This is a really great tune
Lord, she was a beautiful woman.
Still is...
Still is
Fantastic jolly lively tune Carl. I can see London in the blitz - she brightens it up though. I gotta say I've been inspired to find a stream of the movie. All the best as always. Mark
Yeah i really like this instrumental Mark, and Tony Hatch has done quite a few good ones over the years.. Oh this ain't London Mark, this is Bradford i believe, which is where the film "Billy Liar" was filmed.. I got the movie which was a freebie in the Sunday newspaper a number of years back, they gave some real good ones out.. Thanks for watching mate, have a great day there...
Great clip from Billy Liar!
Nice work!
Billy Liar was a really good film.. Thanks for watching mate...
Yes! These go great together! [:-)] I've collected Tony Hatch for decades but I've never heard of this film. Julie Christie? I didn't recognize her in this clip. I always think of Fahrenheit 451 as her earliest film. Thanks! [:-)]
Very energetic and live this (Man Alive) music that went very well with Julie Christie scrolling in London's streets.
Another excellent video from a great channel! I enjoyed watching it!
A big thanks for sharing it Carl.
All the best/Ned
These were not the streets of London Julie was walking around in Ned but the streets of Bradford i believe, as that is mainly where the film was filmed.. Thanks for your great comment my friend.. Have a great evening there with your family...

Hey Carl!! Never heard this song before... very cool old footage to go along with it!!! You don't hear music like this very often anymore!! Thanks for sharing and much love!!
Hello my friends, yeah am not a big fan of much of the music that's around these days, i personally think the 60's was the best decade ever for music and singers, and also for films too.. Many thanks for watching my friend, always nice to hear from you guys...
If you put in "Man Alive Series" it was the theme tune.
I just watched a wonderful 50-minute programme about Hyde Park in Central London in that series that has almost brought this 66-year-old Londoner to tears of nostalgia to a world that no longer exists...
Brilliant on all fronts. Thanks.
Thanks for your great comment my friend...
Great black & white sharing , thank you for this old film amd music Carl , have a wonderful week , Rezan
Sorry for the late reply Rezan, many thanks for watching...

Many thanks my friend, like it'
Thanks Lola, great to hear from you my friend...
Wonderful Carl. Very enjoyable. Thumbs sky high my friend. Happy weekend 👍👍👍👍👍Lloyd :)
Must agree wonderful music from my youth. How I enjoyed that time. I had my 3 piece suit and off to the dance. The girls were so pretty with no horrible tattoos. There was full employment and a family could get along pay off a house own a reasonable car all on 1 wage.
Hi Lloyd, sorry for the late reply, but you know my busy life and story lol.. Take care my friend...
@@TheOldrecordclub Hey, no problem Carl. I'm not busy like you but I'm mostly late🤣. Take good care. Be safe...Lloyd :)
wow so really cool music love listening
Sorry for the late reply Layila, thanks for watching...
Hi, Carl - don't remember the TV show (I heard about the film) but loved the music and the lovely Julie Christie. I also enjoyed spotting the old cars - that Vauxhall at the beginning is great - and the shops too. great memories from what seems like yesterday.
Hi Vic, the film Billy Liar was filmed mainly in Bradford Yorkshire, your part of the world i believe, but i don't remember the series Man Alive that much, i was more interested in other things in the late 70's like going out chasing girls (smile) but i sure do like the theme tune from Man Alive.. Tony Hatch & his Orchestra recorded some great tunes, and i just might check out a few more pieces of his work, which is like a good wine, and gets better with age.. Thanks for watching mate...
Hello my friend is very good Video thank you from Russia
So pleased you liked it, thanks for watching...
Great music and video, Carl !! ♫
Glad you liked it Hubert, many thanks for watching my friend...
I remember her in that movie Carl and many others Dr. Zhivago , Demon Seed come to mind. Nice video and music, thanks Carl.
Hiya Greg, she made a few good movies, and she was a bit of an icon in the 1960's and very popular at the time.. This was a great film and a bit of UK classic i would say.. Thanks for watching my friend...
@@TheOldrecordclub she even has couple of movies you can watch free on YT Carl.
Great theme tune

I fell in love with a Julie Christie in Far From The Madding Crowd 💓 O Bathsheeba 🙏
Well she was a great looking woman in her day Gavin.. Thanks for watching mate...

Yes sitting with my mum and dad watching the kitchen sink news program " Man Alive" not a care in the world !
Very good
Glad you liked it.. Thanks ...
That was coooool! New friend here
Always nice to make new friends, thanks for watching...
OH MY GOODNESS ! I thought that was whom that was, before I read your info! My old Girlfriend, ever since that great classic film, Dr Zhivago...( I watch, at least 1X a year) I bet that was a popular show there..I do not think we ever got to see, over this end.. You get so many great shows there past&present..Wish they would show more of, here...Our's are not fitting to watch any longer,
LOL... I used to watch All Creatures Great and Small, Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances & few others really enjoyed...I know of Tony Hatch & Orchestra, in fact have a few of his records.. This was very nice, and sounds like it went with the show very well... Looks like it may have been a little similar to a show we had in the 60's called "That Girl" with Marlo Thomas..
Fun video, with good Music..Thanx for sharing, young Man ! Happy Hump Day ! AND.... KEEP PLAYING THE MUSIC ! ! !
Oh you mention some real good shows there Rich, with that "All creatures great and small" being one of my favourites, and i recently got hold of the film for that series that was made.. This film this clip was taken from "Billy Liar" which is a really good film, funny in parts but sad in other parts, and it has some great British actors in it too.. Thanks for watching my good friend, always nice to hear from you...
All creatures great and small was brilliant, the actor that played the head vet was brilliant in his roll, so was the actor that played James. I saw them on some travel show with them driving an old car and I didn't recognise the actor that played James or the younger one that was travelling with him.
@@BoB4jjjjs Hi Bob, Well in the film sequel to All creatures great and Small "It shouldn't happen to a vet" James was played by "John Alderton" who is better known for his roll in the series and film "Please Sir" so maybe that is who you saw driving that old car in that travel show..
Say, do they make a lot of your show "Theme" songs on record over your way, Carl ? ( Such as,
All Creatures Great & Small, Keeping up Appearances, etc. I would love having some of those!
@@TheOldrecordclub It was the ones that played the vets under the head vet, can't remember their names, (actors) but they went around parts of the UK and mostly Scotland in an old car. They went to the road that was cut off by a Hydro or Water Dam, can't think at the moment, but the road can still be seen on the other side of the dam. Someone will know what dam it is. It was ok series of programs, but they had aged a bit and I didn't know who it was until I was told. Take care mate.
This sounds pretty hip Carl - stay safe from them volcanos!
Yeah that Volcano is quite a nasty one, but luckily for me i am well south of where it is, but many thousands on the main island of Luzon have been evacuated.. Glad you liked the video Karen, i did enjoy putting it all together.. Many thanks for watching my friend and for your concern of the Volcano...
I loved Julie Christie in Billy Liar. Pretty girl, looked very nice as she sat in the lorry coming into Central London. Shame on the film producers for not taking a shot of her getting out of the lorry. I'd have loved to see that in the finished product. I've got the film on DVD.
Yeah Julie Christie is a fantastic actress and a fine looking woman in her day.. Always thought what a great film Billy Liar was, and i just might watch it again tonight lol.. Thanks for watching and commenting Bob...
Its Bradford actually.
This is a ripper Carl. Loving that old footage, I new of the series but couldn't remember the theme song. Hope all is well mate. Heading to check out your other channel have been off YT for a while. Cheers mate:)
Hi Nathan, glad you liked the video mate as i did enjoy putting this one together.. Yeah i got way too many channels lol, and just not enough hours in the day to maintain them all, so i just flip around from one to other, get bored with one and then i move onto the other (Smile) cheers mate, really appreciate all your support over the years, and i hope you are not getting caught up in them bush fires you got burning over there...
Julie Christy has a raw sexuality about her.
Tony Hatch 😊
super !!! une epoque révolue !!! ++++
Thanks for watching, it's much appreciated...
Great intro, she is lovely👍 where is the rest of the film?
I was looking for the theme which accompanied the broadcast, the melody is carried by harmonica.
You will find it under "Man Alive, A man called Trubshaw, a plane called Concorde".
@@timesquare5473 thankyou so much, fine audio too.
nice '' i like .
Thanks for watching Bob, it's much appreciated...
Happy New Year... Carl... I do no know this song or TV series.. it was nice to watch in black and white... I hope you are doin well, very cold these days... Many wishes to you, and your family...
Hiya Nancy, great to see you here my friend, and i hope 2020 has started well for you.. Glad you enjoyed the video.. Many thanks for watching my friend...
Reminds me of the Mary Tyler Moor opening visuals.
Fewer teeth.
Wow ~ Memories video and music are great. I am your neighbor now. Let's go closest friend.🙆♀️🎁♥️🤝🇰🇷
Many thanks for watching, hope you have had a good weekend there...
You realise how much the BBC has fallen. Once we had man alive now it's wall to wall cookery shows
I watched Billy Liar a few days ago and this music wasn’t played once....
no its definitely not in the film. the footage is. and maybe the score when she crosses the road is his score but of that I'm not sure. Emmanuel shadrack this is your life,.... your life mr shadrack, your life oiiiiii shadrack.
Its been dubbed over.
Read the title notes !
I can't remember any program that went with the tune, but if it ran till the 80's I must have seen it at one point. I do know the tune strangle enough, perhaps I showed no interest in it. But then I was always out looking for something else But I thought I would have seen it in the 70's? I'll need to look for it now!
Hiya Bob, it was a documentary and current affairs series.. I don't remember the series that much myself but i sure do love this tune and remember it being played on radio quite often.. Thanks for watching mate, real good to see ya here...
@@TheOldrecordclub Current Affairs, oh well, that explains why I never saw it then :-))
"MAN ALIVE" my friend and THanks for the video.
I have just seen "Man Alive Hyde Park" from a typical day in the park in 1967 and it was evocative of a wonderful era that no longer seems to exist :)
It was "Man Alive" Bob and if you want to see a classic example of 1967 England then please watch the "Man Alive-Hyde Park" for 50 wonderful nostalgic minutes, my friend...
@@Isleofskye Well there you go, a programme I wouldn't have watched as out doing other things a young man would be doing. Best not to say what, but I was to busy for TV.
I always thought the start of this tune was like the Vision On theme tune.
Or just elevator muzac. Fits very well tho`. Kicks in nicely when she reaches the window.
@@admiralbenbow5083 This is a lot more than "elevator music". Classic theme by probably our most underrated tunesmith.
Nice Synch
Changes pace just as she reaches the window.
Maybe influenced by Dave Brubeck? Good tune tho.
An early influence on the Monochrome Set?
Britain was virtually monochrome at that time anyway!
Heres a quizz question. What is the connection between this clip and The Specials, the two tone band from Coventry that appeared some 14 years later?
Dunno- what is it?

I guess this was London when it was an English city?
London is an international city always was and always will be. Londoner born and bred here and proud of my city.
