- One of the bleakest video clips of all time. Ministry of Defence clerk Francis Beveridge describes, with shocking earnestness, the empty misery of his mundane existence.
Video from Adam Curtis' BBC blog: www.bbc.co.uk/...
He was honest. Many people are like him. Nowadays, no-one would admit to how they feel.
Wow incredible articulation and candidness...so refreshing.
I hope the kid is OK. An only child in an unhappy marriage.
This is profoundly sad to watch. It would be interesting to find out how they got on. Like others here I'd be surprised if they'd stayed together . Their child would be around 56 years old today.
I just imagine that they broke up, but she tried to make him happier, gave him a violin, hoping to change his attitude. His child, he didn't even say anything about if that was a joy in his life.
Fascinating! Do you have the rest of this programme?
Unfortunately not. Would be fantastic if the BBC opened their archives to the internet one day!
6:47 he describes himself as an unhappy man. He got a house and still not happy lol. He should see 2024 when people are struggling for housing. Enough said.
Have you ever been in love "er probably about 20 years ago but she was married"
Let's hope his wife did see this.
Francis is probably the bloke JD Salinger based the Catcher in the Rye Holden chap off. Miserable git
That guy (and the woman) need their a$$ kicked. Despite the unhappiness they came together for a reason. He's got a wife, kid a home and a reasonably good job (for life probably) if he's ever going to be happy this is probably the best opportunity to achieve that, doesn't sound like he's got much else going on. Go and create things together (other than a baby) happy times etc, and also go and create their own individual happiness, support each other. People who have very diiferent and quite seperate lives can still find common ground for a happy marriage, even if it's one of convenience. Being honest and being right isn't always that helpful. I wonder how it will affect his happiness if the wife & kid leave and he's home alone?
25 pounds a week salary. 2 pounds a week rent. His rent is what? Like 7% of his income and he's in London. What is the average now in London? 30% of income? CRY ME A RIVER, FRANCIS
Bloody hell this is terrible, the bloke reminds me of Arthur Putey the down trodden accountant from the Monty Python sketch who wants to give up accountancy to be a Lion tamer 😂
You mean an ant eater trainer?
Unless that poor man is approaching his century, he is probably dead. What;s the point, you have to wonder.
Grim interview
Yes the good old days! The man tells it as it is honest and truthful the wife surly there must be some love for each other in the marriage with the baby to bond the union. I hope things worked out for all 3 pf them
Would be interested to know what happened to them all. Probably impossible. He’d likely be passed away now, unless he’s got well into his 90s. Wife a little younger and she probably didn’t drink or smoke. Daughter would be roughly mid-50s now.
Brilliant 😂😂
🇬🇧💯🤫🆘😓🤑
Under the thumb. Why people stay with each other that they don't love, trust and adore, I will never understand. I live on my own after a12 year relationship and I've been single for 2 years now aged 56 and I'm having a FUCKING BALL. YEHA.😄😄
I never been married actually been single most of my life l really enjoy my life pottering around up Cumbria with my rescue dog l absolutely bloody love it too pal 😂😂
