    Thanks for this Kev I'm a tipper driver do mostly local work but on the odd occasion when I'm 'out of bounds' using my car sat nav is a nightmare! hence looking at a HGV sat nav. This has been a great help as looked at the cheaper ones and a bit dubious so will definitely be purchasing this on your advice 👍subscribed.

    Hi Kev, thanks for the video. I drive vintage buses on weddings, private hire, film work etc so what is important to me is being able to add many waypoints. For instance, I will need to negotiate London streets and be able to set down facing the best way for passengers to safely exit the bus. My current SatNav is a cheap Chinese one but it does allow an almost unlimited number of waypoints to be set. I plan all my routings in great detail and then tell the SatNav which way I want to go because I can’t rely on it own routings.

    I have one of these. The bluetooth died after a week so couldnt hotspot my phone to it via that method. It will REGULARLY try to send me down roads unsuitable for HGVs and also try to put me down roads that are tiny instead of a route that is a bit longer but more suitable for my lorry.. And also if i miss my turn it will try and put me around a mini roundabout which in some areas is ridiculous. I put in the dimensions of my lorry but the only one it seems to take notice of is the height.

    Garmin hgv range is the way to go. One thing nobody mentions when reviewing sat navs is it's not all about the map software it's about the satellite system used. Tom tom use GPS or Glonass which is fine but galileo should be the system you should choose. Galileo is a European satellite system which sits lower in the orbit than the other systems. GPS is a united States system and Glonass is russian and since the Ukraine invasion I've seen numerous navigation systems dropping glonass. With galileo satellites sitting lower in the orbit, it gives you less signal drop outs in urban areas so try and find a system using galileo. Garmin do and I would recommend the hgv 710 / 810

      @@TRUCKERKEV thanks mate, its put me on a big downer to be fair, i did alot of training and it span over 9 months because of the lack of spaces i lost jobs because of it, i passed then no company would touch me, i finally get a break after 6 months from a local company, the first day was appauling, miscommunications was shocking, organisation laughable, running round like a sausage stressed to death, eventually find the site after being given the wrong postcode then all the waiting around no one has no get up an go, the forklift drivers were all fed up of life, it was a really bad experience and right at the top of the list for the worst first day of any job ive had, i was told welcome to the transport industry its all like that, i hope not but it would explain the driver shortage, its alot of stress and responsibility.

    With the traffic turned on the TomTom can get you in a lot of trouble because it automatically routes you what it thinks is the quickest route although some road closures it doesn't know about so you end up driving round in circles when they know about all the closures they do the job very well also the one I have has froze twice and when rebooted tells you there's no HGV routes so you've got to reset the whole sat nav and start from scratch again handy piece of kit but don't trust it 100% otherwise you will be cussing

    Hey Kev, I will be getting my C + E soon, so far your videos have been of much help to see the industry from inside, thank for which. I need your help. On cars i always used Garmin, tried TomTom but it was total garbage compared to Garmin. But I see all truckers use TomTom, but again now when I compare both, on paper the Garmin wins, free lifetime map updates on some maps, faster processor, more ram, better screen + more screen options, option for dash cam and reversing camera, bluetooth, USB c and so on. In general Garmin is regarded as the best satnav. So what am I missing, why every trucker uses Tom Tom? Regards

    • @dssdf23e
      @dssdf23e Před rokem +1

      Some truckers are affiliated with TomTom and won't bother discussing the topic, truth is if you have tried Garmin you won't look back. Don't be put off by the higher price, at the end of the day you get what you pay for, and this is a piece of crucial equipment for your job!

    Thanks big man, TomTom are winding down on their brand, they have now teamed up with Road Lords, a FREE truck sat nav app that is putting the rest of the market into shame. This is the beginning of the end of the big brand names, because you can't beat something that is free and does the same if not better.
    Road Lords doe exactly the same as your sat nav does, and even better. No offence intended.
