Unlimited RV Internet and WiFi for VAN LIFE | 2020 Update

- In this episode we take you through out internet set-up for full time van life. As digital nomads living in an RV full-time, we need consistent and strong WiFi. Here are our top pics:
UPDATE: There have been a few changes to our wifi setup since we made this video. We still use the hotspot I show in the video and the flat panel antenna. They continue to work the best! We have links to them down below.
But we no longer use a sim card with EZCom. The customer service wasn't the best and we found a much better plan directly with T-Mobile and AT&T. Info on that below:
Our Favorite Wifi Setup:
1. HotSpot: amzn.to/2tWzxwe
(If it's out of stock, this should work too: amzn.to/2GrXods )
2. Flat panel antenna: amzn.to/3mQLMQU
3. Sim Card: As of right now, both AT&T and T-Mobile have 100gb hotspot only plans for about $50 a month. Both are great plans. We have the T-Mobile one. Info about both of them can be found here:
T-Mobile: www.rvmobileinternet.com/t-mo...
AT&T: www.att.com/prepaid/mobile-ho...

đŹWho we are:
Hey, we're Chad and Paul. We lived a pretty typical life up until a few years ago. Chad was a speech-language pathologist and Paul was an attorney. We worked in New York City and by all means were set. But we didn't feel settled. We wanted something different. We started a bunch of online businesses, quit our 9-5's and now we live an unconventional life in our van (a 21' Winnebago Travato). Follow along with us on our journey.

Please everyone, use a VPN when you're on public Wi-Fi.
This is what we were literally looking for guys!! Thank you so much!
Our pleasure!
Hi guys! I was getting so confused abt all of the internet options out there and you just helped me out immensely! Thanks đ safe travels
Thanks Christina! Glad it helped!!
You have no idea how helpful this was. Thank you!
đđđ
Great video bro, you helped more than anyone
Thank you so much for this! It really simplified the internet options while being on the road.
Thanks for watching and commenting! đ
Thank you for this video! This was absolutely the most simple yet informative video regarding on the road internet. You gave me the exact info I needed.
Thanks for watching!
AMAZING VIDEO!! Iâve searched for an easy to understand video regarding mobile hotspot. Thank you for this information! We live in our tiny camper and WiFi is the biggest struggle.
Aww thanks for the sweet comment!
Didn't you guys used to have Visible Mobile? For $25 a month and running off verizon network, you can't beat it. I use it as my primary internet source in my Winnebago Boldt. Plus there's a workaround for the 5mbps cap đ
Iâd like to learn more about this workaround! Also, do you use the sim in a phone or router? Iâm thinking about getting the MOFI router mentioned in this video for my van and inserting my Visible SIM card. Any suggestions?
Thanks for another very informative video. My dog does the same thing as Orlando does when he's preparing a good spot to plop down.
â€ïž
Clear and concise. Thanks guys!
đ
Thanks so much, wish we had 'unlimited' data plans here like they do in the USA
Great information guys!
Glad it was helpful!
New here from 30 and a wake up. Almost done building out my van and looking for best wifi booster. My wife and I are going to do travel nursing and wifi is a must if I am going to get her into the vanlife. Great info. Can't wait to see the storyteller
Thanks!! Weâve seen a lot of travel nurses on the road. Seems like a great fit!!
This was great! Thanks for the info guys!!
đđđ
Paul, you did a great job of "dumbing down" the nerd stuff for the rest of us so if you want another job for van life you could always write one of those books for dummies & start the first edition of Wi-fi for the RV Life (Bet there's a market!!)
Ha! I love it. Great idea!
This is what I need when I need to work on the go. Since I work from home and sometimes I want or need to go with my boy somewhere out or town.
Terrific info, thanks!!!
đ
thanks for the tips buddy
Super helpful, thanks for the advice guys!
đđđ
Man what a location! Great stuff, Im definitely picking up that flat antenna. FYI, I just got an iPhone 12 Pro with Verizon...the 5G is amazing!
30 And a Wake Up I have T-Mobile Unlimited with Iphone 11.
For $35 it's so great! We were holding out for the iPhone 12 for a while. But our phones were getting so old (and slow) so we caved earlier this year! Jealous of your 12! haha
Great video!! I'm a brand new RVer and work remotely so my #1 priority has to be reliable internet. Your video was VERY helpful!! New subscriber here!!
Hi there Barb! Welcome to the van fam! Hope to see you on the road!
Great Vid, thank you!
thank you! very informative :)
đ
Very useful, thank u
đ
Thanks for the redirect! If ya'll ever get up here to the Pacific NW (feel free to drop by) Humboldt County (Arcata, CA)
Will do!! Weâll be there sometime this year. Thanks Jeffrey!
Thank you! đđŽđ
Anytime!
While I know the subject well, nothing replaces the in-the-field review. Thank you for covering all the options and your experience with performance. I only found one problem with the video (0:54, 2:41, 6:15, 8:12). Our TVs, computers, and phones, don't have regular views like thoseđČ. Could you not find any overcast or rainy backdrops to make us not regret being locked to our brick and mortar homes?đ€
As always, all-the-best.
đ€Ł weâll be on the lookout for rainy and overcast backdrops next time! hahaha
Thanks! Very good explanation that doesn't confuse the distinction between the source of the internet (cell carriers) and the ability for a device to connect to it (cell and/or wifi). I feel more confident about making a decision at this point on how to augment connectivity in our RV.
Thanks you!!!
Thanks Paul! This was helpful. I currently work from my van and I have Weboost and a Verizon hot spot, and Tmobile cell. Right now I only use Tmobile, Verizon didn't activate my hot spot in October for some reason but it will be on on the 15th of this month. Im in Sedona Arizona and it seems my Weboost doesn't really work well. Its been difficult getting cell service especially when I'm away from town.
Do you struggle to get service in different areas, does this happen to you alot or just sometimes?
I love seeing you guys adventures, gives me confidence to travel around too. Thanks for your fun videos too.
Hi there! Can you use a Visible SIM card in the AT&T hotspot? Also, any idea if the flat panel antenna can be connected to the MOFI router? Thank you!!!
Great infođđ§đŒââïž
Thanks for watching!
Love you guys! Maybe we will bump into each other when I finish my build this summer!!!! Lots of love, and stay safe alwaysâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Blue hair+blue bus+little black dog=me đ
Yes!!! Good luck on the build!! Hope to see you on the road!!
Manatees! đ Very helpful, thanks! Do you know (of) Chris and Cherie of Technomadia (they have a Travato G)? They also run the Mobile Internet Resource Center and are always reviewing gear and plans. Stay safe from tropical storm Eta, if it decides to come towards FL. âđ»
Yes! We love technomadia! Chad now wants a boat because of them! Lol
Thanks for the information! Just a couple questions: Why to have an external antena for the hotspot? Isn't the weboost working with it too?
The antennae makes a big difference on the hotspot- sometimes one window vs. another can make a big difference.
Good to see Bob Dylan is touring again
Can you still buy that At&t plan unlimited? Will work for new Xbox online gaming?
May I ask what you guys do for work on the road? Nice video cheers!
We have our own ecommerce businesses that support our travels. We'll definitely be making another video about it.
I know that place. That's a good spot if you're near st. Pete.
Yes! We love st pete
Cool! I have unlimited plan on T-Mobile (20gb Hotspot) and a work phone on Verizon in case I need to hotspot and one signal isn't working .
Yeah redundancy is so important if you work on the road!
Is there a 12v adapter available for the router or hotspot so it can run full time without needing the inverter on?
Yup! We have 12V adaptors for all our hotspots đ
Question; If I got the wii boost with hotspot system, do you think I would be able to download videos from iCloud at a good speed? I tried downloading from iCloud at Dunkin Donuts (best public Wi-Fi) and it was a painful snails crawl
I like the way Orlando rocks that heavy harness. Is that to secure them when you are driving? Or are they into leather? Iâm not being judgy.
I have Verizon and Iâve been with them since cell phones were invented (seriously) snd I want to stay with them. Iâm full time Van Lifer/Traveler and want to have full time wifi. So far my iPhone 11 and 12 hotspots absolutely suckđł I bought used mofi and want to add it to my service. I want to use my security cameras but need wifi. This may b sill ? but will the mofi allow me to use these security cameras? Thanks for all your great content.
does the weboost do anything for increasing the netgear hotspotâs signal?
Thanks. I have this same question.
Thanks for this info. I recently bought a Mofi. Tried using a T-Mobile sim from an old IPad. No go. Can you tell me what specific type of sim I need & your third party source. I already have an unlimited T-Mobile family plan for phones & Ipad. Any advice is most appreciated Paul.
This is a great place to get unlimited plan sim card: store.ezcom.us/cart.php?a=confproduct&i=0
So why did you two get the K instead of the G. You sleep in sep beds? We have been married 16 yr and have never slept in sep bed EVER. That why we bought the G. Thank u for reviewing the wifi and phone boosters. We need neither but it was interesting. I just use my ipad for entertainment, we have never ever taken the plastic off the face of our TV. We r going full time for 2022 and enjoy learning from you two.đâïž
Nice! Congrats on the decision to go full time in 2020! We slept in the same bed until we moved into the van. Living in such a small space together itâs been really nice to have separate sleeping spaces. The bed in the G was just a little too tight for us. We do love the layout and dinette space in the G.
I have the MOFI router with AT&T SIM card. AT&T canceled my unlimited plan and now donât offer unlimited. Any recommendations?
Hi Paul and Chad ! Where do you guys find those awesome "waterview" spots?
A combination of iOverlander, looking at maps and asking locals! đ€
@@ChadandPaul good to know! I haven't been impressed with iOverlander so far, but we haven't left the northeast this year. Enjoy the warmth in FL!
Looking for a better internet option as I go full time in the van in 2021. Curious why you decided to go with ecom over other third party resellers? They seem more expensive but also seem more legit than others. Were there others that you considered or researched extensively? Many thanks, great vid.
At the time they were one of the cheaper options. Not sure whatâs available now- things have a tendency to change lol. Overall weâre happy with the ezcom but their customer service sometimes isnât the best...
hell yeah ya'll married congrats! Gays on the road I love it!
đ
Great video. I'm considering moving into a van. I would be working 8 hours a day from a desktop or laptop computer. Do you think the AT&T device would be sufficient for that?
We have at&t, Verizon and T-Mobile so we know weâll likely have service if thereâs any to be had.
Do you find the 100gb att plan sufficient for 8 hour work days (M-F) .
I suppose I am trying to understand how much 100gb plan will last me assuming good reception.
How many Mb/s do you get on the different systems? This is a really important stat and I'm surprised more videos about van wifi don't mention it.
Good question and good point! Weâll have to look into it and provide an update.
For a professional who is on zoom calls 4 to 5 hours a day, and wants to vanlife fulltime, what would you recommend?
You can make it work! It might take some experimenting in the beginning to find a system (or systems) that work for you.
Do you recommend using both the We Boost and the Netgear hotspot?
Yeah! Sometimes you have to turn one off to make the other work better- itâs a little complicated. But thatâs the set up we use and it works for us
I have the Netgear Nighthawk with At&t unlimited for $35 a month , its supposed to throttle down after 20gb but I never notice any throttling .
Great van life internet video. You mentioned you found a cheap, 3rd party plan for about $99 / mo in this video, but there is no link. Can you please let me know what plan that is and send a link? I really need a cheap plan. Thanks!
Does the hotspot antenna work in conjunction with the weboost, or is the antenna unnecessary with the weboost?
Cellular wifi requires a lot of testing. I recommend getting just the hotspot and antenna for now and seeing how well it works. Then get the weboost later if you feel you need it.
When we want to use wifi we just turn in the hotspot and use it as is. Itâs usually fast enough. If itâs not, we try the antenna. If itâs still not fast enough, we turn on the weboost. We then try different things like the weboost on with antenna on, antenna off, etc
What would a van like yours cost to buy?
âThings like thatâ. Hehe
Great info. How much do you spend for internet access per month?
AT&T: $22, T-Mobile: $99, Verizon: $60
@@ChadandPaul thatâs cheap. We spend more than that with 2 phones and 2 iPads. Thanks.
Iâm just waiting for starlink to come out :/
Also, I am Grandfathered ATT Unlimited Cell. You mentioned 22GB Throttle. Would you agree with I am Guessing whenever I am in my billing zip code 24/7 NOT working Throttle cell service and my home base is a Mid-Size CA City. Traveling NO issues. VERY informative Topic. Thanks for Sharing !!! đ đđ¶đđ
Hmm interesting. Ours works everywhere with no issues!
Where are the links to these items? Thanks for the information.
Hey Michael! They should be linked in the description below.
What is your unlimited plan because 3 or 4 days watching Netflix my so called unlimited plan is over I just want to buy a unlimited plan flat rate anywhere I have a signal I can watch as much Apple TV as I want without worrying Iâm gonna run out itâs 2021 we should be able to do this? Iâm jealous of your 2âs van thanks for the video!đ€Żđ«đđđœ
I'm having trouble finding unlimited data plans for the mofi? any ideas or help?
I second this question.
This is probably a bit overkill, but have you considered Starlink?
Considered it yes! Weâll see what itâs like once itâs rolled out đ€
would any of these work for a remote wfh agent? I take calls all day for roughly 10hrs and the tmobile device looks like the only thing I can plug an Ethernet cable in for my laptop Iâm just kind of unsure how all of this works...
It works well for us but it really depends on where you are- sometimes AT&T is better, sometimes Verizon sometimes t mobile and sometimes nothing. Usually weâre pretty good though.
@@ChadandPaul thank you so much for replying! I will look into it more â€ïžđ»
Do you have a new Mobile WiFi recommendation for 2022. We are leaving the US for a years vanliving in Mexico ( Mainland and Baja) and would appreciate your thoughts and any recommendations on service providers. Thanks-w
We've had the best luck just keeping it simple- verizon on our phones, at&t hot spot, weboost if you're going to be in places with limited reception. Has been working exceptionally well for us.
@@ChadandPaul hi Chad and Paul, thank you for your response. Weâve had limited success with our WeBoost, but I will look into both, Iâm sure there have been improvements. Continued safe travels.
Hi Chad and Paul I live in the attic and I am temping as a Covid tracer I think my landlord is trying to kick me out I am paying $20 a month so they give me their password to share their internet service. I have T-Mobile on my cell phone if I use Netgear like you said will it pick up the signal so I can still get good WiFi signal? Thank you for the info
Netgear should work if you have a good data plan!
@@ChadandPaul Thank you!
Hey guys, what jobs do you have that allows you to work on the road. I want to do the same thing and just travel in my Van.
Chads a speech pathologist and consultant and works remote and Paul works in e-commerce dropshipping. We both own our own businesses.
Be nice to have a real home based business
Sadly in Canada I canât seem to find any unlimited data plans in Canada
Bummer!
I just found MapleWiFi, unlimited data!
Where do I get this whole set up
Check the links in the description. Thanks for watching!
do you need a home address to get this?
Why not use weinguard ?
Great. Now I have a cracked cellphone screen because you asked me to smash the like button. Just kidding.

Does this works outside the United States?
No I don't think so
*I misspoke @ **10:15**. I meant to say go on AMAZON to buy the Netgear*

About net gear unlimited for 20 months
T-Mobile only 15 gb
Hi. Question... Does the van its own name? đ
We call her the vandalorian!
Sometimes.., the hotspot isnât that great :/ and thatâs where Iâm at
Do you have a cell booster?
Hey Paul and Chad love the channel I contacted ezcom.us and ordered the t-mobile service/router combo and I would like to share my experience. I ordered from them it showed up yesterday and I plugged it in today and connected my phone, did A internet speed test I was in a hurry (had to go back to the hospital due to having a baby) so I left it at that for today. I contacted customer support chat just like I did when I ordered. I had all assumptions that i was doing something wrong on my end and wanted suggestions on making things better. I was met by Jessie and maybe he was having a bad day or something but he was very rude and condescending to me. I even mentioned this to him and his response was if you deal with customers you understand how frustrating it is. To me this is unacceptable that I was met with this kind of treatment especially on day 1 of service.
I feel awful that I recommended a company that treated you so poorly. I might have to do an update video on them or something. Because recently we experienced similar bad customer service from them as well. Iâm not sure what changed because when we first used them, even though we had some issues, they helped us and were professional. Again man, Iâm really sorry. I think they have a refund period you could take advantage of if you want to quit using them. But even though we havenât been happy with their customer service either, the cell plan we have with them does work great and is worth it.
@@ChadandPaul no worries completely not your fault you cant control another business. The speed test was slow so I simply wanted to know if i was doing something wrong before I connected all my devices. I will be canceling my service with them simply out of principal. I wont due business with a company that treats its customers in such a way. Its unfortunate I was more then excited about the idea of the unlimited service guess I will stick to at&t for now.
what's your internet business
