My Grom Costs THIS MUCH For Maintenance & Repairs?!

  • Wanna find out how much my Honda Grom has cost me in repairs and maintenance? I think many of you will be pleasantly surprised!
    Let's be real here for a minute. Some motorcycles can cost an arm and a leg to maintain with maintenance that MUST happen at certain milage intervals. The Honda Grom? Not so much. Fortunately the Grom is powered by Honda's ever so reliable 125cc tank of an engine. Honda is a pro at making 125cc's and hey have been doing so for decades.
    In terms of cost to maintain the Grom, it's surprisingly cheap. Oil costs around 5 dollars a quart for the OEM stuff. Gaskets for the spinner are less than 10 dollars, and doing the occasional valve Clarence adjustment on the grom isn't going to bankrupt you. Per mile, I can't think of a cheaper vehicle to own and ride. I recommend changing the oil a few times over the year if mileage permits. Oil is cheap insurance for the grom and the lifeblood of the vehicle. Groms do not have a dedicated oil cooler or a radiator. So make sure you change the oil and clean the spinner!
    Needless to say, I'm so happy I own a grom and love the cheap fun that it provides!

    Just do your own maintenance. These bikes are basically the easiest bikes to maintain. Dealers will always try to screw you over maintenance. It makes 0 sense to be paying 1,000s of $$ to maintain a $3,000 bike.

    Early failures of good quality fuel pumps are usually due to running the fuel tank too low or doing wheelies. Both practices cause the fuel pump to over heat because the pump is liquid cooled by fuel and the pump is usually mounted bottom center of the tank.

    Finally ! Love your videos! im at my 4000k but i've seen some youtube vids and the valve check seems not too complicated. one shop said i don't need to do valves (manual states to inspect at 4000km) and one shop said yes but it will be 2 hours so $260.00 for servicing. Once i heard that i said forget it... In regards to valves though did they require you to leave the bike overnight? I've read the engine has to be cold. ive got the feeler gauges so im gonna try and do it myself.

    Ethanol and running low on gas is bad for fuel pumps. It's a common issue with both modern carb and fuel injected bikes. The carb's get messed up seals, and the fuel injected one's it swells the seals in the fuel pump and kills them. So I just started running Marvel's Mystery Oil in everything haven't had any issues since.

  • @oakstrong1
    @oakstrong1 Před 5 lety +1

    My dealer told to get oil changed at every 1000 km. Here it doesn't cost much here to get standard maintenance done at a garage, so for me it makes sense especially as I don't have a courtyard, let alone garage.

    I won't be driving my bike for several months. I live in monsoon climate. Apart from oiling the chain what should I do? Should I empty the gas tank (garage is close enough to wheel it there to fill it up)? Should I get oil change before I go or after I come back? Is it a good idea to put a bike cover or will that speed up rust (because of ondensation)? Take out the battery? What about the bodywork, fairings; is washing the bike enough?

Def subbed and gonna save this video for when i rack up those miles lol, also what do you prefer on gas? Some people say normal and some say 95-98 which ever is the highest you have. I'm not worried about cost since its so cheap either way, just thought I would ask.

    • @greasyhands5585
      @greasyhands5585 Před 6 lety +1

      The Unknown oh no worries man, but I put 400 down. Currently I'm getting out of the military in a few weeks and have always wanted a Grom. Currently I'm stationed in a area that has speeds from 65-75 so yes it is rough. And it's New Mexico so it's windy and flat as hell which doesn't help. I'll be moving back to NH pretty soon so that'll be a lot better. Highest speed limit I see is 55. Some 65 but it's rare. But sticker is 3200-3300 for a 18 new. And with dealer fees you'll walk out at around 4k

    • @greasyhands5585
      @greasyhands5585 Před 6 lety

      The Unknown that really depends on where you live. Luckily NH doesn't have sales tax but for such a cheap bike yeah it's only gonna be in that range if that. Harley's especially new aren't cheap at all. Since it goes off of the sticker price with whatever percentage you have for your state. Also going off topic but with no wind I can hit 60. So with the exhaust I'm gonna be getting, intake and power commander (the only performance mods I'm gonna really do) it should hit 70 on a non windy day. Definitely let me know how is goes though and any other questions you got

    • @greasyhands5585
      @greasyhands5585 Před 6 lety +1

      The Unknown oh yeah your monthly payment will be under 100 if you do that much. Also yeah man it's mitch_richardson098. And yes, give your insurance agency the VIN number so you can have insurance right away on it. Other than that, they slapped the temp plate on and I drove it out of the lot within a few hours. So insurance and actually having your license is really all you need. They do everything else.
