The only time when Sub-Zero (Tundra) was ever shown as Asian was in his MK2 ending. All other times both Sub-Zeros were being presented as white in every media up until MKX.
iirc Bi-Han and Kuai Liang are half white/half chinese and were born in america, their chinese father later took them back to china for them to become Lin Kuei warriors, i dunno if NRS retconned that or something

As someone who personally struggles with the Kameo system, I've found my own little safe haven using Frost as a pretty safe/consistent/easy to use set up so I'm still using a Kameo to counter people's own Kameos but I'm still overwhelmed not committing to the Kameo system as a whole. It's really not that difficult.

In the store it has a little key at the bottom where it says with the mark next to it. Exclusive to premium store. Even if someone bought the game and no premium skins were there the key still would be there. You read the key which is one sentence and then its easy to notice and say "Hey none of these have this mark I can get them elsewhere"
