    I feel the need to mention something I realised about Assassin's Creed Odyssey a few days ago. Many people are complaining that "this isn't an Assassin's Creed game" and "you don't even play as an Assassin" etc. I was thinking about this and tried to figure out the main reason for Ubi shifting to a full RPG with this game, and I believe I've figured it out. Assassin's Creed Odyssey ISN'T a game about the Assassins. OR the Templars. It's a game about an uninterested third party that could end up on either side of the conflict. I believe this is the kind of story the developers wanted to tell, as the motives/means of the Assassins and Templars have always strayed into grey areas, and so doing a story about the Peloponnesian War (Odyssey) a time when there were no organised Assassins or Templars but when the exact same argument (freedom versus order) was more prominent than it has ever been in human history, they've created an interesting sandbox where they can say to the players "hey, if you actually had to choose, would you be an Assassin or a Templar?". Obviously this is just conjecture on my part, but at the very least it's what I see the game as being about. :P

    • @robsonwaterkemper
      @robsonwaterkemper Před 6 lety +64

      Actually the name of the franchise was never about the Brotherhood of the Assassins but a system of beliefs of a given person that has a mind set of an Assassin (which may or not may be an official member of the Brotherhood). See, the name is Assassin's Creed, in singular, as in the Creed of the Assassin. In this meaning, creed is a system of beliefs, instead of a group of people. So it's clearly not about the Brotherhood, because if it was, it would be in a plural from, Assassins. So the name of the franchise would be Assassins' Creed (with the apostrophe coming AFTER the s, not BEFORE).
      In short, you can't say this game is not Assassin's Creed anymore because there's no Brotherhood, because it's not an integral part of the franchise, right from the beginning.

    • @nicholasdalli6303
      @nicholasdalli6303 Před 6 lety +2

      The very beginning of the series was with the brotherhood in the holy land, sure the fight of freedom v order is integral and the beliefs held within the Assassins and Templars supersedes the actual organisations but you cannot say that a factor like the assassins that have been the centre of all the games mostly as protagonists or (as in Rogue) antagonists can just be swept away and that that is all fine and dandy. This game ill see as an impressive romp in history but not a wholly proper ac game.

    • @robsonwaterkemper
      @robsonwaterkemper Před 6 lety +11

      The name of the very first game is Assassin's Creed in singular as I explained above. Yes, all the games had the Assassins and Templars organizations in the center of the conflict. But all games were never about them, but about a person immersed in that conflict. So, let's say, just for the sake of variety, they are doing a game without those organizations. It's a different game from their predecessors? Sure. It's not an AC game? No, because since the first one the core aspect of the franchise was the person and not the organizations, so it would be a valid entry even if it's different from the others.
      It's like saying Rogue is not a proper AC game because you play as a Templar where all other games you played as an Assassin. Or AC3 is not a proper AC because you start playing as a Templar and then you change historical protagonist, and you never had that in previous AC games.

    • @nicholasdalli6303
      @nicholasdalli6303 Před 6 lety +2

      Im not saying outright that AC odyssey is 100% not an ac because i haven't seen the plot yet, however it feels off, no matter how thematically similar it is. Honestly it feels like a test game seeing how well mmo rpg mechanics work in ac.

    • @robsonwaterkemper
      @robsonwaterkemper Před 6 lety +8

      I don't feel that is off, but I agree that is different and I think every game is a test of new mechanics. They tested new things on Black Flag, Unity, Origins etc. What works they continue, what doesn't work they change. By work I mean sell, or being critically acclaimed.

Yet it all kind of felt the same, minus the Pyramids, of course. The Egyptian temples were the same, albeit with slightly different layouts and statues that made them slightly 'unique', all the Roman citadels were the same and Alexandria and the small city (though the size of a village) with the colosseum felt the same. Hopefully Sparta, Athens, Delphi, Dolos, Thebes (hoping), Iolcus (wishful thinking), Ithaca, Thessaly (shout out to Achilles), Salamis, Crete (really just pulling at strings here) and Thessaloniki will all feel unique. Pity Mycenae was already destroyed by this time setting. That would've been a sick place to visit...

    Interesting fact. There are myths that say that the statue of Athena, that was made of gold, was built inside the Parthenon. Some say that it stood by the entrance alone. Still. Nobody knows for sure.

    5:43 - if this is the statue of Pallas Athena and therefore we are looking from the entrance (Propylaea) at the front of the Parthenon, there cannot be a sea in the back. We are then looking inland and are supposed to see Mount Lykavitos and parts of ancient Athens.

I have been in Greece many times, teasing my imagination thinking how those ruins used to be innovative constructions. Now I will have to go back and see Greece in a sort of new augmented reality, thanks to you. Great work!

    AND THATS THE TOP IN THE SCALE OF AMAZINGNESS!!!! I live in Athens and not just that, I study history and I m so thrilled with the beauty of the city my ancestors build. For years I played the Titan Quest game just to be as close as I can to "that place". Then I go and visit the actual temples and other ruins and I get goosebumps. Dont get me wrong, I love every ancient civilization, its just that Greece is the epitome of worldswide civilization.
    I cannot say enough congratulations for the team who build this game. You re absolutely outstanding.

      DarkDoTz Bruh why do people expect every game series to reinvent the wheel. I understand franchise fatigue but why overhaul your entire franchise when it wouldn’t result in a better product. In fact, Bf V has done a lot to make the experience more hardcore and team focused by changing the way squads need to work together. This isn’t a major renovation of course but is a proper sequel that builds off the ideas of its predecessors. There’s now no 3D spotting, less starting ammo, squad revives, reinforcements, and squad “streaks” that require points earned by the squad working together. I’m not drowning in excitement for the game but it kinda grinds me the wrong way to see people shitting on what’s looking to be a solid departure from previous bf’s
