My bike is at the shop for a possible new bb. Thanks to your video, it will be the last.

Hi Mike. Great video. Thx! Have a question. I have an older Specialized Globe bike with a rear-wheel gearbox, and I needed to take the bottom bracket cartridge out. I started with the non-drive side and relatively easily removed the pedal arm. However, while trying to remove the lock ring, I managed to break off bits of it. Do you recommend that I go to the drive side and remove the cartridge from there? What are my options to replace the broken lock ring - find a replacement or replace the whole cartridge? Appreciate your insights.

Oh no thats no good. Is it stuck if so try some tread lubricant or heat. You can try the drive side. If all else fails I suggest your local bike shop.

Hi Mike, have sort of an odd situation with a Framed 29er bottom bracket. Specs indicate it is a 68mm eurosealed unit but straight from the manufacturer, the drive side was not tightened until it rested solid against the bottom bracket frame tube. It also has several spacing washers on the non-drive side, but those spacers are on the crankshaft, not the bottom bearing shell. The non-drive side BB also has an external lock-ring. I've not seen this situation before so I thought I'd reach out to you. Do manufactures sometimes not bring the drive side flush to the frame? Seems kind of odd.

Hello! Regarding the creaking&screeching issues you mentioned, are these a result of applying too much torque? (I got weird long creaks happening after servicing the BB lately that I was not able to explain, so hoping this could be the cause)

Normally you sounds if it is not greased enough. But over torquing might cause that issue too.

Hi. I bought a Marin Bobcat Trail 4 and going through your videos. I will use your tubeless one but I was wondering if you have one to covert a square tape BB to an external BB. I wonder if its worth it.

I did this in this video czcams.com/video/z-fBr9uZQnA/video.html
However I didn’t do it as an instructional video. But I do hope it helps.

And I do think it is worth it in the long run. You won’t notice a big difference but it will last longer.

Hello 👋 what kind of grease do you use on the threads???

    • @Frostbiker

Ideally you should use an anti-seize compound, but any generic grease will be okay. What you want to avoid is installing it without any lubrication, because it can seize up.

Are sealed cartridge bottom brackets able to be unsealed and maintained or are “single use”?
Your bb removal tool looks like it will accept a socket wrench…does it?

They are not made to be opened. But since they are sealed they last a long time. The BB tool will take a socket wrench.
