"semi-retired idol takes up the mic again to sing idol"
as soon as i listened to the song i knew i had to cover it!! unfortunately i was on vacation at the time. if i was any younger i think i would have thrown a fit, but as a boomer... well, iykyk. vacation time is precious, especially when you work more than one job!! so i decided to enjoy my time in the mediterranean and figure it all out when i came back...
on a different tangent, just as i finished editing the video, yoasobi just released their english version of idol...😂 the fact that you guys still clicked on this video despite that makes me really happy hehe. i had a lot of fun recording this and i hope you guys have just as much fun listening to it c

This was a fantastic cover, catchy and yet once you start actually paying attention to the lyrics you get yourself a Fridge Horror moment! Speaking of which, props to Juby for the lyrics, they're the type that really make you think about the dark side of the idol industry (and influencers in general)!
On another note, I think this girl should meet More More Jump. (Or maybe Nightcord, she'd probably fit right in with Mafuyu. Or both.
EDIT: the whispered "Really? I'm glad. I love you." at 3:16 was snuck in so well in there, I only noticed it on the second play.

It's interesting that at first, I was like "these lyrics kind of deviate from the original meaning somewhat, I'm not sure what I think about it", but after the first 30 seconds or so I realized what that was for, I can't describe it in any other way than "they just FLOW so well". The rhymes, the rhythm, and the meaning overall are conveyed incredibly well. The whole package is just incredibly organic feeling. Thank you! This is an amazing cover, as usual.

This cover hits different after watching the live tuning. That being said, amazing work as always I love how it ended up turning out.
These lyrics are better than Yoasobi’s official English lyrics imo. They just flow better with the song, but still get the meaning across. And Rachie’s vocals are perfect for this song too.
Being 100% honest I disagree with the fact they still get the meaning across like there are some important things omitted.
These certainly feel more 'naturally English' and seem clearer, but the way Yoasobi ver. transfers the words' rhythm and intonation *completely* untouched from JP to EN is pretty magical in its own right imo. Comparing the two only makes you appreciate both attempts more for what they are.
@@nrvnqsr4001 This version translates the meaning and emotions but take some liberties in line order and pronunciation for clarity and natural flow, official translates the meaning and keeps the majority of the vowel sounds from the original untouched but that makes for some too fast/ broken/ awkward-ish english (also official rhymes ‘before’ with ‘before’ in the line ‘I recall no one who loved me whole before’ and the line after that.
I guess that’s what happens when you translate songs, you lose about 10 - 20% of the context, meaning, rhythm, melody no matter what you do.
personally i prefer yosabi's official english version, but this one is very good as well
@@nrvnqsr4001onestly you're right Yoasobi's EN cover sounds like the JP version especially the voice if you want to sing the EN and JP in one song you can easily change to JP to EN or EN to JP, but this cover of the EN version feels like Ruby is the one singing if the ending of the story the twins perform Idol this is the cover they will sing
3:09-3:14 this part of the verse hit differently. “Ruby, Aqua, I love you.” 😢😢😢 I also enjoy thought that they would make a good Ai impression from that and the song as well. 😊😊😊

The vocals I say was there but some important lyrics was lost in translation such as the Lyrics where it was clear that Ai was calling herself in the 3rd person in the song. Such as the Perfect Idol love was actually The perfect Idol Ai

Honestly I enjoy your English cover better than YOASOBI's! I've always enjoyed the intensity for your singing voice and Juby's lyrics in this case in my opinion hits harder than the YOASOBI's English cover.

It’s seems like everyone and their mom is covering Idol (as they should be, this song is fire 🔥) And everyone seems to be writing their own trans-lyrics (hell I even wrote my own - I don’t even sing!) but your cover is the first time the lyrics have actually seemed to capture the original’s artistic feel. Yes there’s awkward wording and such, but that’s what makes this cover better than the rest. It may sound cheesy, but it’s like I can feel the artistic choices and bits of inspiration that went into covering this song. And I love that finally somebody understood this song’s emotions rather than just the words. Anyways great cover Rachie!!! ❤~
