- It's tiring work. On a day like Sunday, Hawaii's pristine conditions make for crystal-clear blue water, but underneath that ideal view is a mass of junk at Heeia Kea Small Boat Harbor in Kaneohe.

Well, here is something that CAN'T be blamed on TOURISTS. It had to be locals in Hawaii who did this. Locals expect tourists to respect the land when they visit and rightly so, but locals should be doing the same before critizing tourists.
After living on Oahu for 4 years , I don't know it all , but litter is a HUGE problem in paradise. From this kind of thing with the tires, to the homeless littering and using the streets as bathrooms, to people leaving unwanted furniture or anything on the sidewalks , to the wind blowing litter all over the place.
EXACTLY!!!
Aloha ʻāina people
Born and raised and still live in kaneohe ...the majority of the tires which are noticeable with holes and cuts are strapped too the pier too fender off boats from being destroyed and some rip off the dock and fall in ...still nice too see them clean up the mess 🤙
During the video, they mentioned that some tires had been dumped into the bay the night before.
Mahalo to the beautiful souls cleaning it up! Much Aloha 🤙
The thing that disturbs me is these tires are dumped by locals. Sad. Mahalo for the HARD work guys! Aloha
It’s ironic that the locals do much of the land trashing. All to save $25 in tire deposal fee.😡🤬
“Locals”?! Of course it’s “locals”, who else would it be, tourist bringing tires all the way here in their luggage to dispose of?! Or by “locals” are you passive aggressively trying to insinuate its Hawaiians?!? 🤔
@@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom I agree - it’s the local citizens ; No respect for the beauty of their land, destroying the ocean and ocean life!
@@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom It’s definitely locals/Hawaiians whateva u like call them.
@@stonewallis4373 Ah it’s equal parts refreshing and disturbing to see a racist so openly admit to being racist.
Mahalo ODA for getting these tires out of the ocean 💜 sad that people think it is ok to use our ocean as a dump site 🤬
Brah them tires been in that water for a long time..stop believing what the white men telling you..it’s annoying how y’all follow them..
@@kamakazi8152 it doesn't matter when the tires were put in the ocean, the point is, those tires need to be removed. So yes, I am grateful to anybody who is doing the work to malama ke kai.
If tires can be used by H-Power to generate power, why not allow people to drop the tires off at H-Power for free?
Great question!
Nope, not possible. Makes too much sense...
HC&D used to be allowed to burn tires to make concrete. It’s probably a result of layers of laws that looks good on paper, but has no common sense.
@@oldskipper1394 😂 good1 🤜🤛
"Pick up your litter -- your opala -- and help keep Hawai'i beautiful."
Perhaps, they are too tired to dispose it in a proper way.
@@robertdowler3347 or maybe their parents threw their rubbish in the bushes. Or dumped their other stuff on certain corners. People tend to learn an understanding or approach to litter & dumping from their parents
@@tomboyle4537 They are a product of their own enviroment.
8🎪8 State capital get choke!
The city should start a service where you call a number and they come and pick up your old tires for free.
Going jus crash 😂
Start embedding them with chips and require owner/buyer to be responsible for entire lifecycle. Maybe require a meaningful deposit to assure each tire will be turned in even if abandoned.
Great idea!!! Thanks
those look like truck tires probably foem companies trying to save some money
Oh so sweet of these men saving the ocean life! Salute! God bless
People used to throw all kinds of shit into the ocean. In 1968 when I was a little kid, I remember there was an old washing machine off shore a short distance in Ka'a'awa and my dad used to throw rocks, trying to get the rocks to land in it. And keep in mind, beach glass has to come from somewhere - it came from tons of glass bottles etc thrown into the ocean.
Who the F is dumping them?
The State or City should find ways to step up enforcement of illegal dumping. The neighbors right across the street probably see everything happening, but don't want to get involved. Kaneohe Bay is polluted from run-off from many areas, including the base. Sad to see this happening, the free tire dump is just a ten minute drive from there.
Today, Mr. Spangler is proper. He always is proper.
Kaneohe bay was known as the most beautiful coral kingdom in the world 🌎 ... White sand crystal clear Kaneohe bay alive with colorful coral ,, fish ,,, sea horses and lobsters .
Since when ? im 72 yrs old grew up on K bay drive
on the water... cant believe those guys are swimming at Heeia P- lau
This is a global situation and needs to be handled with action and surveillance
I m born and raised and still live a stones trow away as well as worked 10 years in the bay construction and river run off the near coastline is muddy but outside sandbar and by coconut island is still beautiful...I'm mid 40s and yeah we still jump in the pier area and so do the canoe paddlers 🤙
@@kukuipupule4415 You just missed it by about twenty years before your time . 🤙
@@bluemoon3264 Actually I think 70 years ago it was still pristine, the vibrant ocean life and clean waters is why HIMB build their lab on Moku o Lo’e after all.
The marine base, sewage waste facility and overcrowding (which caused large amounts of runoff) has had devastating effects on the bay and the life which once thrived there… but that’s basically the story of ALL of the ocean here in Hawai’i, even as recently as 40 years ago much of the beaches were still crystal clear… do you remember flying inter island and how when you were taking off or landing the water behind the airport was so clear it looked like a swimming pool? That’s no longer the case. So heartbreaking.
10,000 tires at lanai freight harbor.... its crazy huge pile about 65 feet...
ODA doing great work.
Thank u
Why would anyone throw tires in our beautiful ocean???
Mainlanders
@@Iamkitkatbar lol bet you it's locals because mainland people have to pay to move here and think it's a topical paradise why would they destroy the ocean sounds more like a local thing.
@@michalewalker8852 Because they don’t value or care about Hawai’i as much as locals do.
@@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom Yea Just like you guys raid lychee farms🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@stonewallis4373 “You guys” 🤔… there you go being racist and prejudiced again.
Is your kkklan like the Boy Scouts, do you have a racist comments daily quota to fulfill to earn yourself a white hood or something?!
How could people trash such a beautiful area like this
This reminds me of Detroit dumping tires everywhere
Florida once dumped in 2 million tires to create a reef. Not trying to downplay K Bay!
What's the final disposition? HECO fuel blend (burn) or Covanta cogen incinerator? HECOs been blasting off some serious "stack smoke" lately. EPAs been monitoring their stack emissions via "coal-fired" process conversion. Outside of SF6 emissions (problem), HECOs AES is being watched. Whose signing the manifest to Hpower?
Heave heavy fines for those who dumps them!!!!
Cameras should be placed there to catch whom ever is dumplings these tires ....
Betamax broke 🤣
Solid 🤙🏿
Aloha hugs 🤗 hauled to HOWARD so Waianae Do another part what happens to them after you move them please
Thank you Jesus thank you everyone that helps to take care of our island our world our home
Can we get some security cameras please
8🎪8 gov. Betamax in 4 repairs
Awesome service….people use the bay as a dump site. How many are still there? Outrageous.
Thats is alot of tires
Well...start making ah border wall 🤣
So the Junk hauler is just going to bill them for hauling the tires away only to dump them on the other side of the island
Lol job security
Yes, where it will be burned, which is equally if not more bad for the environment.
😂 no tell secret 🤣
Looks like my yard that borders with Micronesians.
That's Ecology at it's best.
Need to catch these people dumping. This is should be the cop assignment not just driving around for nothing.
Tell my fadah 4 put me out dare stand watch 🤪
Good to see foreigner's clean up the islands. Bout time.
Sooo…where do they go from there? Not to a landfill I hope! Nice work done by the Alliance.
Ebay!
Need cash 4 plug in u guys RAIL 🤑
There went the tako
Put up surveillance cameras and a sign notifying all illegal activity will be prosecuted.
Lot of big truck tires so some commercial companies are cutting costs.
Gotta figure a way to recycle them. If they had a way to clean the smoke they could burn them for energy. Years ago I heard they were going to chop em up and make roads that don't crack.
Betamax broken😂
@@zaneylogann5036 Hey don't bash betamax.
It had superior data storage and still has scientific applications. Just kidding. Know anyone who wants old blockbuster videos on beta I got a pile.
State capitol has more rubbish inside than kaneohe, ala wai combined.
Rahjah dat 🍻
So unfortunate, such disrespectful citizens !!
Guaranteed Locals dumping thank god for your mainlanders
why wont the city or state find a way to recycle these tires for no cost. that will definitely stop this type of things from happening
Um um um um um um um no have passwerd...🌈🐸
Isn’t dumping illegal and they should be fined.
Fine the locals. I grew up right across the street. How dare make our waters pilau!!! Shame on you guys. Place cameras and catch them on put their pictures out there so folks can be on the lookout!
8🎪8 gov. Betamax under repairs now...
2 tires could have save Biden from falling off his bike🤣🤣
So……….put money into surveillance ? Then fine heavily. Doing this the problem will never end. Until this is done, nothing but a puff piece to feel good about.😳
They’ll just find somewhere else to dump. You can’t put up cameras everywhere.
@@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom So do nothing except clean up the mess every few months? I don’t get it.
@@MrHAPPYHAWAIIAN Nope, I agree, frequent cleanups are definitely no solution either, I’m just pointing out that cameras won’t work, not long term anyways.
@@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom Then frequent sting operations? Or no money for that? 🤡
Put em in da truck, den haul em' to Waianae and dump em' in west side.
😅
Always wondered where the country rascals throw they're tired after burning rubbah
