The main coach was vile..her personal one was sweet..glad she left the sport and sure she'll be better for it!
That documentary was an eye-opener. My heart broke for Margarita, who not only had to deal with the physical toll of her rigorous training, but also the mental abuse she received from her trainers. And on top of that, she also had to deal with her dad being sick with cancer?? That's insane, and the fact that she persevered and won gold really shows her strength and dignity. I hope she's in a much better mental state now, because that must have been so awful to have gone through
This is such a tough yet beautiful sport.
That's what makes it so fascinating.
Congratulations, Margarita! I jumped off the couch when you finished your ribbon routine. I'm a huge Yana fan, but like in any other sport the person who does a better job IN THAT DAY wins, regardless of how much better they are from the other competitors. You were just a firecracker this entire season and you more than deserved this medal. BRAVA!
She got me so emotional like I'm the one who just won the gold myself. I happily cried and so pround of Rita. 😢

The commentator's words "THEN Mamun held her nerve to score highest with the clubs and take the overall lead" need correction.
Mamun (who won gold though was always second to Kudryavtseva) did not know how Kudryavtseva (who 'lost' gold) performed and what her score was. She is superstitious, told her coach not to tell her anything about the scores of others

Farrukh Baykabulov Yup. Rita performed earlier than Yana in every rotation. If anything, more accurate to say Rita held her nerve to perform well with clubs since she messed up that event in qualifying. But she had already performed and was leading when Yana had her mistake.

I was rooting for Yana and she remains my favourite from this generation but credit must be given when credit is due. She failed an element badly and that's all there is to it, this is not Figure Skating, errors in Gymnastics can kill your every chance of a gold, period. Besides, Yana has consistently proven to be the better gymnast for the last couple of years and she still has a long career ahead of her. Go, Yana! 💜
Eliu Misael Pascual Tapia That is a pretty decisive statement for someone that clearly is either a 4-year-fan, didn't really watch the event or hardly knows anything about the sport/current COP.
Let's break down the facts: Yana had the lead throughout the entire competition. Even with the last catch deducted, (which, mind you, was her only major error) she was still miles ahead of Ganna. She got three 19+ scores whereas Ganna only had low 18's. She could have scored 15.883 in clubs (that would have been the lowest score of the day) and still beat her. Hell, they could have given her gold by a minimum margin and I doubt many would have complained. To even assume that she should've gotten anything less than silver is a joke.
Well said. I was rooting for Rita but Yana has been so good for so long. I was stunned when she missed that last catch but it was an enormous mistake. Usually Yana is faultless in competition and Rita is the one more likely to have a serious mistake, but Rita did her job. It was just her turn this time. It's a lot like Kabaeva in 2000, when everyone thought she'd win.

I love Rita so much and I wanted her to win but I was gutted for Yana after she had that miss on clubs. So uncharacteristic. She has dominated everything for the past few years so for her to not win this title, ouch.

me too...and those wonderful celebrations amongst the gymnasts in 2012 was so much warmer. The personalities of the girls from 2012 like Dmitrieva, Charkashyna, Son, Garayeva, Maksymenko was so much more sweeter. This one feels really tense

Systematic training from the early childhood alone can reap the Gold in Rio Olympics 2016 for Margarita Mamun and brought Glory to the Two countries i.e.Russia and Bangladesh.
Truth be told, Kudryavtseva's routines were not at that level we were used of her. Even without the mistake I believe Mamun would/should have prevailed after the last 2 routines. Mamun really had a great day and great routines but Yana understandably was visibly weakened in all aspects (due to her injuries it wasnt even certain that she'd compete).I think she also felt that hence the uncharacteristic mistake..
What are you talking about yana had higher scores in all three routines and if you correctly add up the deductions she got for the mistake with clubs, her clubs would've been higher too.. So mamun didn't have any chance of winning if yana hadn't done the mistake
Actually I like Yana's routines in 2016 more than her older ones. They were more serious and melancholic, which I really liked.

There was a bbc documentary about this Olympian, her father died 2 days after she returned from the Olympics and she soon left the sport. Her coach (not the lady in this video) was vicious.

While Yana took the all around title within the past three years as well as more single apparatus titles, Mamun was the one reigning at the Olympics, it is like a movie. Both are phenomenal, and it was a great battling journey of the two

Not to take anything away from anyone, they're all incredible athletes but... I wish the limit per country was one gymnast, instead of two. I would've loved to see Son get on the podium, especially after her own mistake cost her the bronze back in London. Anyhow, Rizatdinova is a true artist just like the ones only the Deriuginas/Ukrainians know how to train, she's a beautiful gymnast with expression and elegance to spare. Hopefully the younger girls will blossom with age the way Ganna did.

Well she didn't. Rita was under the most pressure, her dad was literally DYING when this happened and her blood was turning black but she still managed to nail everything. Yana wasn't even going through what Rita was and still didn't keep it together the entire time

Rita got the highest score ever 77.1+ twice in Baku WC 2016 & the other one I can't remember. Yana never managed to touch 77... Rita used to be surpassed by Yana just because she used to make major mistakes at least in one routine, that's how Yana used to win over Mamun. Did you watch Mamun's hoop routine which she performed in AA in Rio 2016, she made a few mistakes...She was nervous, though she ultimately beat Yana the so called AA winner of every competition. Rita is the true champ. ❤️ She got what she deserved...

I understand you want to be proud of her but this is stupid. Her mom is Russian. She was born in Moscow, lived in Moscow and trained in Moscow. She grew up amongst the Russian stars with the greatest Russian coaches. Apart from contributing a sperm there's nothing Bangladesh has done. +Eliu Misael Pascual Tapia Aún así no debe ser la mejor manera de ganar (yo no me sentiría tan bien si fuera ella), saber que lo hiciste solo por que alguien cometió un error cuando en igualdad de condiciones mamut no podría superar a yana (no lo había podido hacer en ninguna instancia de la competencia, se veía la superioridad de la rubia claramente). Pero en fin.

NEIhelon ROA Las condiciones corporales de la ucraniana son superiores de las rusas , ya sea saltos ,giros ,etc ;aparte tanto en la cualificación como en la final Ganna Rizatinnova no tuvo ningún error en cambio las rusas si los tuvieron
Wilmer Daniel Villanueva Llerena en lo único que Ganna es Superior a las Rusas es en los giros de hecho es la mejor que yo he visto en eso, y en los saltos de hecho es una de las debilidades con que ella siempre ha tenido problemas, porque si tiene la amplitud, pero no tiene la altura. Las Rusas son muy buenas en los dos aspectos y además tienen un manejo del aparato y elementos con un ID de dificultad mucho más altos que cualquiera. La única que tubo un error fue Kudriatzeva en la caída del aparato y Ritzatinova tubo detalles en las rotaciones de giros y en las transiciones con el aparato. Ella es una gimnasta que me gusta mucho, pero al César lo que es del César Y aunque se que muchos detestan a las Rusas y su gjmnasia no hay una escuela que esté a la par de ellas y eso es todo, nadamas.
NEIhelon ROA ,bueno estuve parecer, pero Ganna Rizatinnova es la que mejores saltos tiene ya sea en amplitud y altura en estos juegos olímpicos de Río 2016, además su dominio de aparatos es bueno, además las rusas se equivocaron y la ucraniana no. para mi Ganna Rizatinnova debio llevarse la presea dorada
Wilmer Daniel Villanueva Llerena En que se equivocaron las Rusas? el único error lo tuvo fue Kudri en la caída del aparato. Y creo que te faltan algunos años de ver gimnasia o tomar el curso para aprenderte el codigo de puntuación ya qué todos esepto tú sabemos que la debilidad de Ritzatiniva es la altura en sus saltos Y el manejo del aparato. No es lo mismo hacer un lanzamiento con el aparato girando y atraparlo con otra parte del cuerpo que no sean las manos y en transición a hacerlo con el aparato estático y atraparlo con las manos en posición estática o final. Y ésa es básicamente la diferencia de las gimnastas Rusas a las demás el Coeficiente de dificultad y Amo mucho a Ritzatinova pero el 3er lugar estuvo estupendo y justo.
