Possibly the smartest 800 runner ever. Made the most of his ability.
He decided to be a pro runner instead of a doctor
That´s how it seems to me, too.
amazing what he accomplished on tracks, built more like an mma fighter than a runner
Nick Has mentioned on his CZcams channle that he would race at 5-10lbs lighter than his pre-season weight at around 155-160lbs. Still heavier than most endurance/ middle distance athletes for his height.
Who watches his CZcams channel 4 year later
We reviewed Nick's channel recently. You might enjoy it! :)

800m training = Versatile athlete
Yes
Really.....i agree
Need to have both really good speed and really good endurance
exactly. They can do well in a 5k or a 200m
From Peter Snell to Nick Simmons, the 800m has such a great history
did you mention those two specifically because they are the only two runners over 160 in the 800? because that's why I like them. they are animals for their size...
i really hope he medals in 2016...a very good representative of the USA
Paul Travis Lol or...... not
There are a few factors in the best exercises for the elderly. One plan I discovered that successfully combines these is the Seniorcises (google it if you're interested) it's the most helpful plan that I've seen. Check out all the interesting info .

nice video about pre season training .
Great video thanks for posting
This is the ideal male body, you may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like.
there is no ideal male body. there is only the best body you can achieve.
It's a meme bro lol
It's not funny if it's almost true
Longevity wise, health yes I believe middle distance runners are king when it comes to peak performance you’re not a toothpick like marathoners but you’re not overly packed like a meathead you’re the perfect balance of strength and endurance
Exactly 800m runners ... 200m speed ... Long distance endurance and strength
This is sick!!!
Great video..
great stuff
Add Russian subtitles PLEASE! I want very much to understand information from this video.

+Jan Fredrik Ah, yes, here we have the common North American Xenophobe. Native to the Southeast United States, it isn't uncommon to find this creature on the surface sites of the internet like CZcams.

hush menzadeh he’s Swedish look at his name
Keep work hard in the off season to be on the top of your game in the summer🙌🏽
Awesome
Great video
He is a muscular 800m runner.

High mileage typically just injures you anyways this is the better way to go it’s smarter. 60 miles a week makes sense for him noting that he is a professional and running a 1:42.
FOR THE 800M. For the 3200m totally different story. Same for the 5k.
@Randummm tell that to all the Ethiopians and Kenyans who are running 15 miles a day to go to school everyday at 10years old and become the best runners in the world later
I'm trying to train for the 800 this year. I've made it to state 2 years in a row in the 3200 and 1600. I think my problem is that I do ZERO training at race speed for the 800. All my training is always 3200 specific. 8x400@80s. Or 4x800@2:45. My PR in the 800m is 2:27 and I set that PR off nothing but foundation miles this summer. I'm built short and muscular (especially for a girl) much like you. I feel like if I did some work on getting that 800 down to 2:20 (where I'd need to be to win) then my mile and 2 mile would naturally come down. I've heard that you have your 800m training somewhere but I cant find it.
If your peak race is around May, incorporate workouts like 10x200m @800m goal pace with 200 jog recovery around March. Gradually take it down to 9,8,7,6,5,4x200 as you get closer to the peak race and shorten the rest and speed up the pace.
huh?
What are your 1600, 3200 times?
My man just look up nick symmonds training plan up it’s free or basically learn that it’s tempo runs easy runs short sprints and hard work for the 8
If ur still trying for that 800, you should know that it is easier to get fast if you step up from the 400
Even if he has a little more muscle It doesn't matter because he is still running fast times
Ralph Kiszakiewicz it helps. that’s his natural physique, he tends to retain muscle, that’s good for an 800m. It compensates for being shorter than some of the other elite 800 guys. He’s powerful and compact which gives him his fast finish.
what kind of pace for your distance runs in the off season?
He has retired since then. He now has a CZcams channel, and he now is the CEO of the company Run Gum.
It’s like an energy drink but in gum form
Have you won any Olympic medals? I like your training regime.

is it really necessary to run 6 miles if you're training for the 800?
You could argue against it, but it helps with VO2 max
It depends if you're a long distance strong 800m runner who trains with more mileage, or a more speed rounded one who trains with more intervals and speed workouts
yeah I'm not gonna do the 800 xD
6 miles is not a long distance whatsoever
yeah, it's extremely important to improve the efficient of the aerobic system. and he does sprints to better his anaerobic energy systems. both are used in the 800 and this way he isolates them. you don't just run 800m to improve your 800 you go over and under to improve specific areas.
🦬
he lifts everyday?
No
where did he say that?
Twice a week he says
Kevin levrone only less weirdo
You can use woodprix, it has the best handbooks and ready instructions. You can learn much from them and make it yourself.

All the weight training really helps me bully distance runners by running in front of them with bad form, slowing down with my elbows flared- Nick symmonds.
Desmond Stephen this was extremely funny i cant lie😂
I wonder how the Kenyans train..
Go to the sweat elite page theres some good training formulas all top internationals use. Even David Rudisha
More mileage.
He probably could have broke the world record if he kept his weight in check. He should probably be racing at around 5'10" 150lbs... not 170lbs. Perfect example is Wayde van Niekerk 6'0" 160lbs (probably less). Why do you think the most used PED for distance runners is thyroid medication?? Because it's all power-to-weight ratio.
what is that? some drug that makes your muscle waste away?
He explains it on his youtube channel on why his race weight was a little heavier.
and he got destroyed by the Kenyans
MasterCheesy do you know nothing about running except that Kenyans are good? Because of you did, you’d realize how exceptional he his, even thought he didn’t defeat the best of the best. His 2012 Olympic time is better than the winners of both 2008 and 2004 olympics I’m pretty sure.
Randummm you didn’t prove anything lmao
@Randummm speed relies heavily on strength though
did you end up beating the Kenyans my friend MasterCheesy?
he looks too big for 800 meters. The dedication is great, but I fear too much lifting and not enough track work
I think he's got it covered.
Therightfit PT Well not anymore lol
Burger BoB LMAO I think most would agree he has done pretty well hey. I'm sure he will sit down and think long and hard and take your training advice on board though.
michael johnson had the body of a 100m sprinter and bolt that of a 400m sprinter.
anzatzi Not all 800m runners are the same built.. likewise not all 400m runners .. we all have different shape, size and body composition.. and you can split 800m runners into 2 groups. The ones comong from a 200m & 400m background.. or the ones coming from a 1500m or higher background.. 800m is like smack in the middle.. it's like the line betweem long and short distance athletes.. and both sides can come together
Firstly, this guy sounds like a nice bloke so I want the rest of my comment to be an objective observation, and nothing about him as a person. He doesn't look like a runner in that he doesn't look slender like most middle distance runners do. Even the African bloke he is training with looks big for an African. Their legs don't look straight, they are curved and bandy. The guys are probably fit as all get out, but as someone that does not know them at all, I was surprised when he said he was a runner. It would be interesting to see what he weighs. Athletes these days are getting heavier and heavier. His calves for example are way too big. If you look at runners from the 80's, they had big upper legs, but slender lower legs. Even athletes are not safe from modern metabolic issues.
Peter Snell, 800m world record holder in the 60s was even bigger than nick. Nick is 165 and Snell was 176.
There are two kinds of 800m runners, sprinters and middle distance guys. He's a sprinter type of runner.
I agree that he doesn't look like a typical 800m guy, but, like everything else in track and field, the clock doesn't lie.
1:42.
