Well I just don't fit in, I put 49,000 k on my 883 the first season and got it late in the riding season. But we can't all ways ride what we like, hitting 70 had to trade my 650 Dr in for a C 50 just could get my late up and over it . but lucky I have not fond a bike I do not like. Would love a Ural but no dealers on the east cost of Canada.

For the record, I am a sport bike guy, but I was working at a Harley-Davidson dealership. The demo truck rolled in and I ask my boss, since I didn't have a lot of experience with the brand if I could take a bike out. He said i could ride as many as i wanted (I didn't know i was getting let go the next day!) I rode Sportsters, Street Glides, Softtails and more. The impression I came away with was the Sport Bikes and Harley's are apples and oranges. Yes they are motorcycles but the experience couldn't be more different. The Harley's were relaxed, muscular and amazing. I get it. There is something about riding a big Harley that you smile in your helmet and think heck yeah look at us!

Fantastic review - honest (they really aren't very fast and scrape constantly), but also clarifies the spirit of the Sportster. Great for beginners, very forgiving, a reliable bike to learn on while modifying it to make it your own, and most riders can flat-foot comfortably. I'm about 110 lbs, 5'4", and have the 2016 for city driving bc it's lanky but well balanced and very agile. Sometimes it goes out motocamping in the country. Gets a bit squirrelly on gravel, but Rusty Butcher has shown us what the Sporty can do off-road if you have the time to put into the bike.

I’d be curious to know what a sport bike rider would think of the older more sporty sportsters, 100lb less weight, less twisty frame due to a rigid mounted engine and better lean angles. They really morphed into hogs post 2004 with rubber mount frames. My old 2003 hugger feels much sportier than a newer Sportster.

Not something I would worry about. Warranty has you covered if you have a problem out of the gate and these bikes are known to last. I've been riding my 883 for about 8 months and it really delivers. Chances are excellent you won't have any issues with the bike. There are a lot of complaints online about everything. Every manufacture has some sort of horrific review online most of which are exaggerated.
The two things you should know going in is that the clutch is a weak point and you will need to do some work on it eventually and messing with any non-Harley tune is going to void the engine warranty because the EPA sued Harley over it and made them stop honoring them.

The stock pipes and fuel mapping literally strangle the engine. Put on a good air intake, slip on exhaust and a V&H Fuelpak, and you gain (they say) 10% hp and torque. But it feels like more, and the throttle response is so much better. It pains me to see him review it like that, lol.

Had one loved it but would not buy another. If you know how to ride it it would keep up with the 1200, just had to rev. it up. the only thing the 1200 had is you did not have to rev. them. the reason I would not buy another is the gas tank is way too small had to stop every 200 k for gas , and when I bought it the tolled me I would get 100,000 K on the belt I took it in for every check , and took it in on a Friday and that Sunday the belt broke it looked like new but there I was on the side of the road over 2 hr waiting for Harley road side then called CAA they were there in 5 min. When I complained about it they said I was lucky some bread at 10,000 k I never had a shaft quit on me or a chain break.

I just don't get it.Pay 9k for a bike and spend more on exhaust, engine upgrades then you get 12+k bike with marginally higher HP.Why not buy Indian Scout with 100HP !!! and don't change a thing with killer looking bike and American motorcycle.
I don't understand why Harley charges so much for Sportster. It should be 6k bike I don't understand anyone justifying paying 9k for a bike with 50HP and toy like gas Tank that can't take you anywhere long unless you stop frequently or carry your own gas.
Seriously why HD failed to address BS size tank on sportsters....
