@@Bryanseas This is true, but it was a controversial match. John wanted it postponed due to a wrist injury. Larratt didn't want to wait. Then there were the set-up shenanigans that wouldn't normally phase John. That said, Larratt looked strong.

@baldy hardnut hard to say, brzenk was 44 when he defeated cyplenko who was 26 years old. Also brzenk is not a heavyweight so even more impressive. But Laratt at 43 couldn't move a 36 year old Denis. Age plays a big role, Denis is clearly too young for those 2. The future is in East europe, but i want to see them compete more in WAL and america as well to make them more popular. That georgian guy seems natural, Denis doesn't , to me at least
John didn't think he could beat Denis in 2008. Neil Pickup was backstage and saw that John's head was not in the right place and gave, what John would later call, the greatest pep talk he ever got. Neil gave John the kick in the ass that John needed to convince him that he could beat that monster. I think that's partially the reason why John acts very "un-John like" after he wins..flexing and all that. He had serious doubts that he could beat Denis and when you achieve the impossible it's like a high
Yep! I now realise how epic this was. Imagine if Devon had beaten Levan. It would be something like that that John achieved. No wonder you flex a bit of muscle - and btw. that was a pretty impressive flex!!! Lots of definition!! 💪
Oh, and this is the match that my jaw dropped at and I've been a John supporter ever since.
I think there was a contingent of Russians heckling John throughout the match..the reaction had more to do with that than anything else.

The shoulder pat can carry a few different meanings depending on how it's done though, is the thing.

Jordan, for as dominant as he was still doesn’t hold a candle to the dominance of John Brzenk in their respective sports.
For Jordan to be in the same conversation, he would need to win championships for 25 years in in a row, retire, and then come back at age 57 and still put up 30 points a night.

Denis saw his chance and hit sideways but hit right into John's wrist control because John felt what Denis was going to do and changed the direction of his pressure just before Denis could reach where he wanted (John started pulling more backpressure - "technique"). John then kept a hard backpressure for the rest of the match to keep Denis away from the deep

Brzenk is the greatest of all time. Cyplenkov is an absolute physical freak with some of the biggest hands ever. He can crack walnuts with his fingers. Brzenk handled him.

I dont know how but I managed to put this huge guy on his knees he is much bigger than me and obviously has bigger muscles than me, I think he was very tired or I accidentally held his hand in a weird way that made him unable to do much, I want to find out what I did.
Actually these two guys are very friendly and polite gentlemen :) I met them both and spoke to them at this tournament

Brzenk had a walk in the park in the 95 kg class with no competition at all (won Taras easily in the 95kg class)
Voevoda had to win monsters in heavyweight category including a prime and strong as hell Bagent...
Only then they met in the overall.
Btw Voevoda won Brzenk and Taras before the Brzenk Vs Taras war in the open class...
So the “injured from Taras match” excuse is funny.

There was no comparison, alexey was another level of strength that year when he had trained exclusively his armwrestling and not mostly bobsleigh and such things ..

I would love to see 2006 brzenk, when he weighed 115 kg, toyed with pushkar 6-0, toyed with marcio barboza like he was a kid and beat devon larratt on the left arm in a single second, go up against prime denis. That would be an awesome match.
roarodon I'm no arm wrestling expert but I feel that John's speed off the mark won him this. Denis is probably better at arm wrestling now, but Brzenk would have been stronger then. Sadly, we'll never see it :(

This is one of the best Brzenks imo. He was healthy and freakish strong. I think even this Brzenk could best current Andrey Pushkar.
I don't think so.2008 Brzenk was weaker than than Larratt and I don't think that 2008 Larrat could handle current Pushkar.
+Omid Esteki Yup!! Thats right!! Larratt can beat pushkar but he needs to bulk at about 125-130 kg only then its possible! Larratt has leverage advantage over Andrey but Brzenk doesnt have leverage advantage over Andrey Pushkar. Pushkar is too strong to win in hook etc! The best match-up was Trubin but he was kicked 5-1 by Pushkar recently! Thats because Trubin lowered weight which was wrong step and posted too many videos like Voevoda while Pushkar kept all seceret and shined like a Star!

I have seen Brzenk in several tournaments. I shook hands with him once and it was like shaking hands with a catchers mitt. Large and rough. I saw him just play with Michael Todd...even though Todd was bigger and more muscled. John isnt human when it comes to arm wrestling. He is just the best but it is because he really is a cyborg. Everyone else is just human . just plain the best. Also one of the most gracious and classiest of them all.

Watching this after seen Devon being pinned by Denis 6 times today.
Denis that beat Larrat is much much stronger than Denis that easily beat Brenzk in 2010.
FX it was 2012 not 2010. Also John wasn’t in his prime anymore by then not to mention he only just recovered from a shoulder injury when he pulled with Denis in 2012.

On the first Pull, Denis slipped out on purpose, watch it on 0,25 speed. Thats why John made that face. Because Denis knows: Straps means less technique --> higher chance for him to win. (Just like Voevoda slipped out on the first pull vs Brzenk at a point when John basically won the fight).
That makes this win even more impressive.

Watch that fight again. Voevoda was about to pin, Brzenk had to save himself and therefore the only option he had was to slip out. So Brzenk slipped out.

..I can only speak for myself and I think the key is to find a way to present our sport to non armwrestlers so they fully understand the beauty of it, with speed, technique, strength, tactics, adrenaline.. and more.. the whole package.. I dare to say that most armwrestlers want to keep all these factors, the speed included, and I think one of the reasons is that this is what makes armwrestling so special and unique compared to other strength sports...

it isnt brzenks arm strength...its the muscular chain of strength he has tapped into. essentially all the muscles in his body contract to form one huge muscle. combine that with willpower, genetics, and skill - now you have a champion!

I weight 145 pounds on avg and people can't believe it when I take down 200 plus pound men and kinda make it look easy. I tell them all. It's all technique and then you show the big monsters that you have beaten how to arm wrestle and then I can't beat them. Strength plays a factor when both parties know how to wrestle. But it's still fun to beat big guys and win money in the bars. Lol. Now I have arm wrestled 2 guys that when they grabbed my hand. I knew instantly I was in real trouble. Andrew Rhodes aka COBRA and a friend of mine that is 6'5 and 420 pounds, Lionel Matthews. I asked Lionel very quickly not to break my arm. The power that they have and the quickness of Cobra. I've never seen. I've been out of arm wrestling for over 20 years and just started looking into it agin. And John still on top. Man that guy is amazing. He was great when I quit. When I tell my kids about who was on top when I was playing around. Then to look up and see John still arm wrestling at 53yrs old. My god, I would've never ever dreamed that could be possible much less a reality. God Bless you all and stay safe.
