  • The latest update has given some new toys so it is time to see what we can really do with them. Today it will be the wonderful sterling generator and teaming it up with the new winterspawn and the old hydrogen combustor to make a power plant capable of running my base. (Some glitchy audio with this one. I must have kicked a cable or something)

    Loving the content! Yeah I didn't get around to testing this particular interaction, I need to check if the implementation of the plants takes into account the enthalpy of hydrogen but I suspect not if it's possible to make this loop!

      @@cowsareevil7514 Your vids are top notch! Stationeers is all about exploring the interactions of different systems, love seeing content like this where new things are combined in new ways!
      yeah I'm working on a fix now, The issue was they were producing 20 times more moles of output gas than what they were taking in and also not taking the correct amount of energy from the air for the amount of gas they were making. I think we're pretty happy with their cooling ability (100w per plant) so the balance is to correct the water consumed and output gas created to match the energy they're using.

      @@cowsareevil7514 looks like the planters were heating up the room as well (as your pipe water was 1200degrees) I've made a couple of balance changes on next beta build, they now use the electrolysis equation so no more infinite energy machines. You'll also need to cool your input water on all plants now too! GLHF :)

  • @absolutenift2234
    @absolutenift2234 Před 2 lety

    Really good job! I reckon if you vented the filtered gas instead of returning it to the room you could save on a vent and wouldn't be discarding h2 and o2 And eventually run dry. Also nitrogen is now a fuel for this space fission reactor.

    Im honestly very curious what their version 1.0 game loop looks like. They've added so many things to make the game easier on less and just about any material.
    With mining rockets for anything you could need and now this giving you easy power in any environment off nitrogen alone.
    Don't get me wrong i like it all as it makes for cool systems like this but they do keep talking about how these additions are foundational to their future game systems and goals.
    Edit: Easy Power And **Water**

    • @iwanwesterduin
      @iwanwesterduin Před 2 lety

      I don't have any sources for this, but my understanding is that early on in the game's development, it was planned to eventually have the ability to travel and transport resources between different bases on different planets.
      That way, the endgame would be setting up a multi planet supply route, exploiting the resources each planet has an abundance of.
      I do have the feeling this goal has been given up on due to technical limitations, and instead they started adding things that allow you to get resources that would otherwise be scarce. The mining rocket and these new flowers are prime examples.
      I think stationeers is a fantastic game for what it is, but it makes me a bit sad to how much of the originally envisioned scope (probably) never will be realized.

    • @mikebell7813
      @mikebell7813 Před 2 lety +1

      @@iwanwesterduin yeah its hard to say. Setting up base systems is fun and all but it does have limits. I mean once you build it / write your scripts etc you dont need to do it again.
      I believe adding a threat more than storms but like grounders or rogue attacks would add a lot. They have a sort of turret in the game and im quite sure adding weapon and defensive systems ( even shields ) wouldnt be too difficult.
      With varying degrees of difficulty and certain items only obtainable through dealing with these attacks could add a lot to the game.
      The current model of environmental based survival challenge only is very minimal sadly.
      RNG events of varying scalable difficulty make these types of survival games infinitely more fun to play.

    • @cowsareevil7514
      @cowsareevil7514  Před 2 lety +1

      I think they have made quite a few early claims that have been abandonned so 1.0 will probably be kept as secret as possible until they are confident they can deliver (re: No Mans Sky). At the moment they are getting the game mechanics in place which is essential for a sirvival game. They are adding a lot of things but I like that there are many ways to do things, it promotes invention. So many survival games have a single solution. If you want power there is 1 generator with 1 fuel source. Here we have any devices all interacting which (makes it a nightmare for game balancing) would make for some intersting scenarios if you did not have a printer and had to survive on salvage.

    Is it possible to reduce the sterling generator by reduce the flow through it? So you can regulate the temperature inside?

      I haven't tested that. I imagine it would have effect to reduce efficiency. The temperature only changes slowly so a simple on/off would probably work best.
