    $100,000 LONG ISLAND OPEN
Garden City Bowl, Garden City, N.Y., Apr 7-11, 1981
Anthony (Who Else?) In Long Island
Earl Anthony captured the Long Island Open for the third straight year and fourth time in his career with a come from-behind, 230-224, victory over Gil Sliker in the $100,000 event at Garden City, N.Y.
Anthony trailed by 28 pins going into the eighth frame but finished with five straight strikes to press Sliker into rolling a 10th frame double for his first championship. Sliker left a 7-pin on his first try, losing by six pins after having defeated Steve Martin and Wayne Webb earlier.
Anthony's earnings for 1981 surpassed $100,000 with the $13,000 top prize and he tied his own record by winning a tournament three straight times. Anthony had won the PBA National Championship in 1973, 1974 and 1975 and prevailed in the Waukegan Open three straight years beginning in 1975.

Revisiting all these old bowling shows, ive noticed Wayne Webb moved around alot...lol. He had a different place listed nearly every year. And im talking like thousands of miles.. not just the same state. I always wondered what the story was there.

What a great last game. Sliker bowled great all afternoon. What can you say about one of the top 5 bowlers in history? Earl Anthony was a great champion who left us way too soon. What I really enjoyed about this telecast was seeing the promotions for Wide World of Sports (The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat) and the American Sportsman. Both were fantastic shows hosted by legends. Curt Gowdy on the AS and of course maybe the best of all time Jim McKay hosting WWOS. Kudos also go out to Chris Schenkel. Another legend in sports broadcasting. Thanks for the video.

The TV director should have been fired for cutting off the pins on Sliker's last shot. What the hell was that idiot thinking?

Crystal Sliker is absolutely gorgeous. Gil never won, but he had the hottest wife on tour in his day.

No way....Pam Laub, Tami Aulby, Candi Cook.....all hotter imo....Crystal was pretty hot, too, but man she also looked like a crazy, mean, man crushing beeotch..lol. You saw Gils demeanor....she bullied his hen pecked ass all over the landscape. Lol...
