RFB Alternatives For Mid Range Combat!

- Today we're looking at some alternatives to the RFB now that M80 has moved to Peacekeeper 3. There are some other choices but are they worth using?
Typically we either have to sacrifice effectiveness with rifle rounds such as 5.56 and 5.45, or cost with those such as the SVD, but there are ways to use all of these guns to get what you need done if you go about it the right way!

Your understanding of opportunity cost is such a breath of fresh air. I teach economics and even among students I rarely see such a strong grasp of opportunity cost and why it matters. Great video as usual!

@@epidemicstudios Opportunity cost is just what you lose by choosing to take one action over the other. Sometimes you can quantify it in monetary terms, as Gigabeef did here. Other times you can't. For example, if you can go to a music gig or a football match, both of which are happening at the same time, the opportunity cost of going to the football match would be that you cannot go to the gig.
At the same time the apm has an ideal craft time for an end of the night craft, produces something of value compared to what was used, and lasts about as long as you sleep.
@@Sylusssss absolutely! And in such a case, it might be more worth it to craft APM rather than the wire craft. Seeing as how you can only set the craft once before you go to bed, the opportunity cost would instead be one iteration of the wires craft, rather than however many you can create in seven hours.
Yup. A lot of content creators completely fail to understand opportunity cost. They say things like, "X item you found in raid is free because you didn't spend roubles on it." No, it cost you whatever money you didn't gain from selling to the flea/vendors.
This might be one of your best “all we’ve learned so far” videos yet. You’ve taken into consideration damage, pen, velocity, availability, crafting, flea-market prices, opportunity cost, trader levels, and budget parts for multiple guns. This is insanity, and it’s perfect. Side note, I can’t wait for all guns to have the same sight picture of the sks while shooting.

Both the RPK and SCAR-L are pretty competitive rn. They require relatively little mods and are workable.
Problem with the RPK is it’s the only heavy machine gun so you’re not leveling a stat like assault rifles or smgs

I'm loving the new AK 545 carbine. It's very controllable even when spamming. Amazing mid range one tapping potential.
The potential to one tap will be gone deeper into wipe when people get better Armor most likely. I don’t know if it will be viable with the single shot for CQB but I see the appeal with long range but I haven’t used it much
@@Angeldemonhybrid172 it truly has become one of my favorite guns, you should try it I understand the single fire aspect isn’t desirable but the point fire on it is a monster and it’s very easy to snipe with I tend to use it more than the 74N
It's fun to play with IMO. But I don't like knowing that 5.45 is going to become less and less effective as the wipe goes on
@@Angeldemonhybrid172 its snapiness won't go away. I've gotten two head taps in 1v1s today, aiming with confidence with it seems easier than most guns for some reason

For the SVD theres a new grip called TD BG from skier lvl 2 that gives more ergo and cost the same/less then a SAW grip.

As for the AK-101, I'm also guilty of looking down at it (and AKs in general); I always kitted out my M4s but during the first week of this wipe, I die quite often and lost my main M4. Luckily I have AK-101 and decide to use it since I hoard a lot of 5.56 ammo. And since then I'm quite in love with AK platform. Anyway nice advice as always and thank you for always putting insightful content for new Tarkov timmies like me :)
Tip for ergo increase: the stm-9 tube + stock has one of the best (if not THE best) ergo increase in the game. Buying a low durability one one the flea, stripping the gun and selling the rest at traders you can get one to a incredible low price
I've been using the new AK545 for my mid-long range raids for the last couple days. The buff to BT and its low cost from Prapor, combined with the very high muzzle velocity of the gun, makes 150m headshots child's play. Y'all should check it out.

I've never thought to linked search the rounds to look for cheaper alternate weapons. Should be particularly helpful when looking for something budget to run on semi auto for when i inevitably keep dying camping for SBIH shots.
Dunno if it would interest you, but I have been very curious how effective the new flashlights are, both regular and IR. Not only from your POV, but also from the enemies POV both during day and with the different NVGs at night. I'm specifically curious if any of the IR lights can "blind" you when wearing NVGs and how noticeable they are from afar. Along with if there is a "king" of the flashlights as far as if one blinds better than the others (probably still the 2U).
If anyone could nail all aspects of better or worse as far as flashlight combos are concerned, I'm sure you could Gigabeef. Loving how analytical your videos are, always nice learning the mechanics and hidden gems that Tarkov has to offer.

Ak-101 with its great base stats (lowest camera recoil) is very underrated indeed, better than the scar imo, less camera recoil + easier modding.
Thats right. But you can only use 30 Rounders what is a very big downside for the 101. Using 40 Rounders in the Scar or others 556 Rifles offen saved my live in close combat situations. So i often prefere the 556 MDR over the 101. But the 101 for sure is highly underrated imo.

Thank you. RFB was my baby since 12.12 and now I can't get m80 I'm very sad. I must have killed hundreds of rogues with it and it was definitely my most used weapon.

Man, if only there was a cheap semi automatic gun that fired 7.62x51. Preferably one based on the ak platform and with a wooden stock. That would be awesome
Recoil on the vepr hunter is atrocious though.
so, nothing new, they killed the RFB by killing M80, by the time you get to play it it's out of meta, just a lategame budget piece if you are feeling lazy, all this options are not a replacement, just a "give it a try" and worst, more expensive options, midwipe is looking harder than before (which is not a bad thing, the longer they extend the hard expeience, the better the wipe is IMHO)
I agree with you there's not a clear conclusion - just shows how good the RFB + M80 combo was at that progression point tbh
Dude most 5.45 guns make excellent DMRs. I use them constantly to great effect for that purpose.
The fact you can get BT early on the flea is pretty good - you wanna make sure those shots count, although the damage is kinda low at range
Anyone wanna explain to me why the lower velocity TCW soft-point round has more pen and 3/4 of the damage of the higher velocity, full metal jacket BCP?

I was so bummed by the change. I was going to use the RFB all the time with m80. But i guess I can agree with the change.
I've been using an SKS for all my mid to long range fights, you can go as cheap or expensive as you like with it.
A few pointers tho:
-SKS:BP not as avaliable unless you farm rogues. If you farm rogues your playstyle goes either bolt action long range or use rogue guns in closer range. PS is only viable closer range, so after few weeks into wipe is not as viable, also never was as a precision round. Better use an ak that can save you in closer ranges, and at lvl15 you get the 30rd mags.
-SVD: Too expensive, too bad stats. Likely only use if you get a broken one but still is better to sell on flea.
-VPO209: Only "viable" later when ap-m is avaliable from trader. Else too bothersome or unreliable.
-Adar/m4 becomes too expensive unless you use your own scavs/looted ones. Ak 101 is nice on paper but you need mechanic 2 to get the magazines. In theory having it all lined up, you could have reliable access (via craft) to 856a1 at lvl 20. But also having it all lined up, you get acces to M80 at lvl 23
-SAG Ak seems a more viable option given that BP and BT seem to be somewhat easy to find. It would be interesting to compare price vs stats (and performance) of the good old crafted AK74 / 100 dura AK from the flea, built up as a pseudo DMR , vs the SAG Ak
IMHO, I was a heavy RFB user, and this wipe before getting PK2, I tried to farm the jaeger shooter quests to both get exp and take advantage not a lot of people are runing automatics. TBH I'll likely be using either a mosin, a silenced vpo or any 7,62ak untill I can rush PK3. Aside from the SAG Ak, no other option looks tempting. And likely I'll start punisher some time in that line so will have to be weapon restricted too. Hope I unlock m80 by the time of punisher 4 and 5.
As an svd main i must disagree. Its a little spendy but lps coming at level 4 or even level 5 armor out of a semi auto speaks for itself

@@fugjewtube1822 paying up to 40k a mag for the 20's has been painful this week but its worh it. Its also not that expensive when you just throw the 15k handguard on it and a pso and send it

@@fugjewtube1822 if you dont already i would highly recommend the caa handguard, its usually 20k or less and you can mount flashlights and foregrips. I use the old 1x1 ak gas tube handguard trick in my secure so i end up getting flashlights foregrips and optics all the time and can usually keep my svd modded with non found in raid stuff
the AK TangoDown Battle Grip from Skier 2 is a great grip costing 8.6k and giving 12 ergo
I'm a fan of the AKMSN myself. Not as accurate, but can be pressed into CQB very well and is usually very cheap on flea.
There's a design flaw with the dmg/pen reduction at distance that means higher muzzle velocity is actually worse. The dmg and pen are scaled in relation to the muzzle velocity and not to some absolute fixed number. Now since drag has a greater affect the faster the projectile, for a given distance the gun with the higher muzzle velocity will lose more velocity (even if still greater in absolute value) than a gun with a lower muzzle velocity and therefore will have greater dmg and pen reduction.
Just a small reminder, since I don't see it here, PS for 7.62x39 did get it's penetration buffed to 37.
I think SVDs will be really popular this wipe since player scavs that spawn with MP-18 get copious amounts of 7.62x54 BT to go with it
Stockpiling BS barter items and top loading BS or striping it in your mags is great value. Prapor ll 3

I just buy an AK-103 and slap on a PSO-1 scope on the dovetail if i really wanna be cheap but another good option is a bastion dust cover and an optic like a HAMR, BRAVO or valday but optic is preference. PS ammo maybe top load 5 rounds of BP into my mags. I just keep it on semi auto most of the time when running it like this. It's nice to be able to full auto hip fire in CQB when ya have to.
SAG 545 is fun just feels anemic sometimes, sks however seems pretty good this wipe, especially with the ps buff helping with the first shot pen chance on lvl 4 helmets.
I just wish the SKS didn't have such ridiculously inflated recoil.

It's funny, it's only day 14 of the wipe and it does feel like mid game already. By August we'll all be 20million deep with nothing but slicks and M995.

Also BT 7.62x54mmR is common on Scavs now wielding the MP-18 and is a great round.
AP ammo is a really expensive craft, even at Prapor 3, SP-6 is close to 1000 roubles per round, I think it might be 960ish, could do with being cheaper
I can believe a bunch of people are looking for svds when I have 3 at lvl 11 that I don't need bc I just don't use em due to getting camped a bunch

I craft AP-m when I go to sleep then it’s not really a waste as you should be rotating crafts anyway

RFB always good haha. The SAG you just mod depending on your Trader levels - LL2 is DTK muzzle, RK4 grip, KRISS stock onto the tube from PK2. Optic of your choice!

Weird, went into my hideout to see if my RFB scope blacked out when I shot and it didn't. Could it be a max FOV issue? I play on 65 and it stays on target.

seems like EFT is getting further and further out of reach of the casual player. I work in real life every day. I have no time to track all of this in a video game.
M80 feels really weak this wipe as well, I have been torn up by it a few times and somehow survived, also have had it take 9 bullets to kill me across my body in a c4
I know it's stats haven't really changed but I think it isn't fragmenting as much or even at all

M80 should be level 2 not 3
SVD should not be on this list thats the only reach otherwise decent tips. If I'm shelling out the cash for the svd in the first place ill just buy the m80 off the flea for the RFB I can still buy.
