I'm an avid hunter, I practice sport shooting, and I was in law enforcement for ten years. I've spent a lot of time shooting and using shotguns. I've spent time with many makes and models of shotguns both in pump and autoloading. With all that said my two favorite pump action shotguns are the Remington 870 and the Benelli Nova. I can't decide which one I like best. I've owned and used the Benelli Nova for about 15 years and I've owned and used the Remington 870 for almost 30 years. The Nova has advantages over the 870. The Nova will hold and cycle shells from 1.75 inch mini shells up to 3.5 inch magnums. The 870 will only cycles 2.75 inch and 3 inch shells. Also a Nova set up for defense with an 18.5 inch barrel with a flush fit magazine extension will hold 7 + 1, 2.75 inch shotshells/slugs. The 870 set up for defense will an 18 inch barrel with a flush fit magazine extension will hold 6 + 1, 2.75 inch shotshells/slugs which is one shell less than the Nova.
I bought a new Nova I'm 2006 in 20 gauge. I use it every year for dove hunting here in South Texas. Still going strong no issues.
Been on the fence on Novas for years, and I think I just made the commitment to pick one up. Great review.

I love having the safety behind the trigger. I use my middle finger to engage it and it's natural to me. I can not get used to any other safety i've tried.

I have had one for twenty years. I had it dipped in mobu when I first got it. It has been dropped in the water, stubbed in the mud, run over(left it propped on truck) shot thousands of times and bagged more game then anything gun I own, especially birds. I always recommend a Nova if someone asks me about a starter gun. Really are tanks in every aspect.
My first firearm. Simple, robust and not too expensive. I feel like it can do pretty much anything (break a few clays, hunting, home defense) and maybe not excel at everything but at least its not terrible across all the disciplines so to say. Not sure it was the best choice for starter gun but certainly non the worst

this thing is a beautiful piece of fun…even for a novice, new to shotgun shooting, i’ve enjoyed my time shooting this. Literally was deciding between the ones everyone has or has thought about getting…i fired the first shot and BOOM!!! i knew it would punch, just didn’t know it was gonna be like Mike the heavyweight vs some lightweight…it went boom and i sat it down and looked at her like ,” ok girl, we are gonna have a good time” lmao!! i picked her back up and let her get used to my touch and i get used to her. i don’t regret this purchase at all. Lucille and I are gonna have a great time together.
The Benelli Nova is a good gun. However the gun is a bit too wide and a bit too thick. Prefer slimmer more streamlined guns like the Mossberg 500s and Remington 870 or a Winchester Sxp. Still a pretty good gun.
That’s the only drawback on the 12 is the grip and pump are a little too thick but they are tanks.
I can deal with plastic on my pistols, but I would much prefer a canon to be mostly metal...
This may be a dumb question, but when I put shells in the tube and pump it, the shell pops out instead of chambering. Do I have to put one directly in the chamber and the load the tube or am i doing something wrong?
When loading put the first one directly in the chamber

Put on in chamber and pump then fill the tube.
Belgium browning A5 has the mag block , there is a switch on the side of the gun , flip that and fire a shell or slide back the action manually and it will stay open while your remaining shells stay in the mag.

Ive got almost 8000rds in a nova tactical 18.5 it eats anything i haven't cleaned it once.

I wouldn't give Ya 10 cents for any Benelli ! No customer service and won't even give You a call back ! I have a $2000 Benelli I can't use due to the gun not fitting . Think They give a chit , Nope .
