BOEING 747 LOSING FUEL during DEPARTURE - B747 Classic

  • This Boeing 747 of Air Atlanta operated a flight between Düsseldorf and Jakarta (Indonesia / 6100 miles). The captain of this flight saw my video and responded: "It's actually fuel coming from vent line via the wing tip vent. I was the capt on the flight and had to fill 600kg of paperwork afterwards". Another engineer told me that there's a wing fuel tank vent box in the tip of all planes. When the fuel gets too full in the tanks it overflows into the vent box and (obviously) out the vent. The wings flexing probably caused the fuel to shift around!
    The Boeing 747-200 shown in this video (TF-ARJ) is currently stored in the Mojave desert. It was built in 1986.
    I am a hugh fan of the Boeing 747 Classic but sadly it is slowly becoming extinct. There are just a few companies from Armenia, Berlarus. Geogria and Iran which still operate a few Boeing 747-200 airframes as cargo planes. It` s very sad to see them go but most airlines have to renew their fleet to make sure to operate in a profitable economic way.
    I filmed this video in 2012 and as you can see I wasn` t able to handle my camera very well. It was one of my first attempts to make videos of planes and I am sorry for the shaky footage.
    Thanks for watching.

    In today` s "Flashback Friday" video I would like to show you my most favorite aircraft, the Boeing 747-200 Classic. The fuel tanks very slightly overfilled and the 747 lost some fuel while departing from runway 23L. I am sorry for my shaky camera work, it was one of my first attempts to film airplanes in 2012. The fuel loss is visible from 00:15 to 00:22 and between 00:46 and 00:58

      It could also be a wingtip vortice caused by the humid conditions at the time.

      If I may ask, why was the aircraft flying from Düssendorf to Jakarta? That is a very odd route.
      It is still outrages that there are no Germany-Indonesia PAX routes. I hope GIA will return to Munich sooner or later.

    Best airplane ever ,I got to see the first two being put together, my dad worked on them and got permission to take us into the Boeing factory as the planes were being assembled, number One never actually flew, it was tortured to death in their stress jigs and I saw the very first one fly its maiden flight from Edmonds Beach when I was a kid, in fact I think I still have Super 8 video of it. And venting fuel when full, so what. Can't believe it was a big deal. Looked like it could've been water vapor from the wet runway...;)

    Due to operate a 747sp SYD/LAX, SP went unserviceable, changed to a 747-200. Weight limited, pax restricted Max fuel, high ambient temperature, on taxi fuel streaming from wingtip vents, apparently it's quite normal, it's also the fuel dump point and does not represent a fire danger on that airplane

  • @davidhoffman5789
    @davidhoffman5789 Před 6 lety

    That first 747 is an odd one. A bunch of passenger windows, but not for the entire aircraft. Forward lower fuselage has a bunch. The rest of the passenger windows have solid plugs in them. Does not seem to be a combination model. My first guess is a rendition aircraft run by some obscure government agency of or for some secretive nations that are doing who knows what.

      Michael Achenbach dude, learn the 747 fuel system before you comment ok, it is fuel from the vent which is also used to jettison fuel. When full it is not uncommon on acceleration and even wing bounce on taxi to leak from the vent. This is consistent from the classic to the 400.

    • @gigaboat

      RACER MUKHERJEE not really. I know people have seen it in die hard 2 but it doesn’t work that way. The fuel vent pipe is also the fuel dump pipe, far away from heat sources. Also the hot exhaust is surrounded by a pressurised column of ambient air generated by the fan on the engine so the atomised fuel cannot get near a heat source.
