Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has doubled down on the season 1 review disaster by renewing the contract of the showrunners for another 3 years. Amazon Prime Video had the perfect opportunity to clean house and get new people in to try and fix the ship, but no. Despite even the critics that positively reviewed LOTR: Rings of Power at first, once the series was over, they soon released "honest" reviews that told the truth. So to follow through with Jennifer Salke's comments that the series not being a sucess isn't something she's ever even talked about inside Amazon, no wonder there was no discussions on how to fix the show. No instead we're stuck on the rails with this train that has no brakes. And we'll be smashing through 3 series at least before we even get a CHANCE of change. Where the only positive part of this seems to be, we'll never run out of content. But what do you think? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

A film studio in the 50s did market research and determined the following:
Generally speaking, Kids will watch what older kids watch... But not the opposite. Girls will watch what boys will watch but typically, not the opposite. Therefore, to maximize profit, target young adult males. This formula was used to great success by many successful studios because it was true in the 50s and honestly, it's still pretty much true.
The problem comes when the studios can't figure out what their target audience wants. I say this because this was a big conversation in the mid 00s- the target then was young males, but they weren't liking what the studios were producing, so they were mainly watching sports. The studios' idea of aiming movies/shows at young men was things like dumbing down the plots and adding more explosions. I can't imagine the studios would be any more successful now, with how out of touch they are (and with how many poorly qualified people work for them).
@marychocolatefairy The studios know exactly what works for men but recently, for whatever reason, won't admit it. Movies like John Wick, Top Gun: Maverick, Nobody, Godzilla -0, as well as the first phases of Marvel, etc are all examples of recent huge successes that played into what males, and statistically what even females want to see in action movies. In the past men were the target audiences for the likes of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Big Trouble in Little China as well as the Terminator, Alien, The Underworld series, Kill Bill, Resident Evil etc, featuring badass women, and women watched those too but they were geared to a male audience. More recently Atomic Blonde is another good example of a great female character that men watch because it doesn't go out of it's way to insult or preach at men and is just a good action movies (I know very few women who saw that movie btw). TV shows like Reacher, Terminal List, Netflix's Daredevil and Punisher, etc... Same thing. But something happened when they started making those movies and shows in a way designed to speak specifically to women (and blatantly alienating men then blaming them for not liking it): neither men or women are supporting those movies. The Marvels and Madame Web, as bad as they were, were mostly attended by men because men crave genre films. Women didn't support those movies because women, overall just aren't into this stuff as much as men. It's almost like men and women are different. Go figure. Studios and critics know this and they pretend they don't. It's weird. On the other hand, women turned out in record numbers for Barbie. Because the studio, smartly, made a movie specifically to speak to that demo. And also, we love a dumb plot and explosions sometimes lol. We're pretty simple to entertain.
I would argue this applies to sexuality too. Gay people will watch what straight people watch, but not as much with the opposite. 🤔

From the "superfans" video to the final episode, it was a complete sh*t show.
As someone who has read and continually re reads the Tolkien series, I could only get through one and a half episodes before I tuned out. It wasn't just the world that he built, it was the attention to detail and hundreds of pages of things that didn't end up in the story that fans of the series want. Amazon had the chance and made a fan fiction instead.
You made it farther than I did. I couldn't get past ten minutes of the first episode. The utter disrespect for Tolkien's work was rage inducing.

I agree. I love the story of LOTR the way it is. There might not be many women in it, but there aren't any humans in the Lion King but you don't see anyone crying about the lack of diversity there. Why can't stories just be stories, with well written characters that we can relate to, no matter how dissimilar they are to us?

What does it say about people who consistently fail, and every time it is either 1- someone else's fault OR 2- everyone else's fault?
They lack any maturity or emotional maturity to think like actual adults understanding that taking personal accountability for failure is a sign of growth and understanding that this is a learning moment to make improvements. If you need to find a scapegoat for your failure then you have the mental maturity that an a infant has who throws public temper tantrums when you failed in life or can achieve success on your own merits, the ego on these individuals is astronomically huge as it makes them immune from objective facts of reality that these unsufferable people add nothing of value to the world acting like infants when they don't get what they want. You won't find a bigger egotistical lot than these objective failures who have lived their life's far removed from objective reality. The fact these same people openly admit they only get perspectives that validate their personal feelings is a public example of their complete lack in any self-awareness that these ideas don't appeal to anyone but themselves. These people are fighting figments of their imaginations and think this is winning, common sense with the maturity of real adults is obviously not something their emotionally driven small minds are capable of dealing with. You have very slow people who have no perspective on life and nobody has ever told them that their ideas just stink to anyone with fully developed brains. The fact that these same people think driving away any potential audience is a winning strategy for success really shows you how immature and slow they really are. It's the ego of spoiled brats who can't achieve success on their own. A disaster for businesses wanting to make profits instead of stroking the ego's of mentally bankrupt tools of their own self destruction. It doesn't dawn on them that their ideas are flawed and terrible until they aren't able to influence entertainment with their bad ideas that hold no value.

If Amazon was serious about salvaging this mess they would just redo season 1 from scratch. Think of how much good will they'd get out of that from the audience, if they did that and actually made something good. Instead, the best case scenario is they keep this anchor tied around their necks while trying to make moderate improvements for the rest of the series. But they've still destroyed their own foundation. Trying to build on it is idiotic.
Same thing HBO should've done with Game of Thrones, just redo the last couple seasons with new showrunners. I'm sure all of the cast would've been happy to come back and reshoot with better scripts.

As a person who did their university dissertation on Tolkien i absolutely 100% refuse to watch Rings of power due to the disservice it does not only to Tolkien but to the source material as a whole. Both Chris and his dad would be rolling over in their graves at what they have done to it.

I hate being reminded that one of the people responsible for The Rings of Power is named JD Payne because that just so happens to be the name I gave to a character of mine in sort of a long-running creative hobby of mine years ago, long before Rings of Power was even a thing.
