This $200 camera shoots infinite film like photos

- The Canon G7x ii isn't considered a very serious photography camera. However, with all cameras today kinda being the same, and film cameras + film prices becoming outrageous, "vintage digital" might be coming up. This camera allows you to shoot close to film-like photos on a digital medium. Oh, and Fujifilm x100v . #fujifilmx100v Yes, this is just for the algorithm. Don't get that camera. It's too expensive.

I'm noticing people pointing out the price. Remember, I live in Japan....... Not everyone lives in Europe or the US😂 I don't lie in my vids.
1) I bought the camera for ¥33,000 yen used, approximately $200
2) There have been used listings in Japan for similar prices last month when I was making this vid.
The market is too hyped up now, so things are apparently getting pricey. Be careful and find good deals over a longer time span :)
Bro, people don't know you live in Japan! You sound American or Canadian, and you specified $ in the video title. So people are going to assume you're talking about buying it with American and Canadian dollars lol.
@@JCW86 never assume.
@@whatisagent5629 Everyone assumes, that's life. How you look, the way you talk, your accent, etc. Can't change reality, have to accept it.
I found one for $200 and I’m picking it up tomorrow. Just gotta look.
Posting the used price isn't really transparent. What is the new price where you live?
I like the idea of just buying a camera and sticking to it for as many years as possible. I think if you can use the same camera for more than 10 years, you really master it and if you keep going a little longer, everyone else will have moved on from using that camera And you’ll have a unique style with equipment that other people can’t easily get any more. I think that’s the way to go.
Well said!
I absolutely love this! I just dug up my first DSLR, Canon T2i, and I'm going to start playing around with it again. I'm excited to see how much better my work looks now with my current skills. I also dug up my dad's old Hi8 and DV camcorders and I'm excited to use those, too!
@@KarenLum same thing here! Good luck :)
@@KarenLum my girlfriend is getting into photography so I gave her my old eos rebel t5 for Christmas and she hasn’t stopped using it yet😂
Totally concur. Still use my Nikon D300 after so many years. Only thing I wished were better is its low-light capability. New cameras take stunning shots in hard conditions. But it pushes me to get more creative.
I used to be really into big, powerful cameras with giant lenses up front. But after losing my passion for photography for a while, I feel like these subtle smaller cameras that you can tuck into a coat pocket or in your bag would really make me love photography again. The big cams will still be fun for more professional style shoots, but with a smaller one I feel like I'll be able to capture life's more meaningful moments!
That’s why i am here
i am in the same boat. Im no longer into the big dslr
I really love mine too. I've made a few pov street photography videos with it.
It may sound like heresy but I love the gopro10 because of this, can carry and mount it everywhere anuwhere
I am in the same boat! I have so much gear i dont touch any more I am thinking I wanna sell it all to get something like this
The way this video was produced and the way you talk and keep even the parts where you stumble on your words. It’s so real and relaxing. Honestly maybe it’s a metaphor for the camera which despite (or perhaps due to) its imperfections is amazing
unerrated comment. v nicely worded.
I really love mine too. I've made a few pov street photography videos with it.
I appreciate that you got this camera for $200, and great job on this video--but I think it's potentially misleading to prominently feature the price of the camera as you do in your title when it's so different from the going rate. For example, I know you "can" find a Leica M6 or a Contax T3 in a thrift shop for $5--but that doesn't make it a "$5 camera."
This ! This canon is priced at 400-500€ in french second hand market... Not exactly 200$
I think the point of the video was to use any older camera model which has imperfections (aka character). His Canon is just an example.
@@Rabixter can confirm, this camera shoots very similarly to my original g9 from 2007 although when you increase the iso from anything above 400 the photos can have lots of noise. that tends to make you shoot using lower iso settings and getting darker and more rich and higher contrast photos. prices for it rn are like $50 so i would suggest checking it out before the fujifilm x100v fans get obsessed with it and make the price skyrocket
@@suspiciousstew1169 Ah interesting. Will check that out.
Haha oh no not the x100v fans. They are ruining the used camera market :D
I live in the US and got mine for $250
Don't be so hard on yourself for your speaking mistakes on camera. Like a good film photograph, It gives you character and imperfection.🤣
Lol! Yeah I need to work on my speaking. You couldn't guess the amount of cursing that goes on behind the scenes
@@UlyssesAokiPhoto Don't down play your own ability! Great video, the text unfortunately did distract me but great ivdeo.
@@UlyssesAokiPhoto Hey, I really like your pace, it was just right. The flow let me take in the words and images; great work.
@@UlyssesAokiPhoto seemed totally natural + smooth to me - great stuff
@@UlyssesAokiPhoto Your speaking is super good and very pleasant to listen to. I never even had an english teacher speaking that good english (greetings from germany).
Great video to look at also. I really enjoyed it. Pure eye candy. 🍬
i agree with your ideas about old digital cameras. i bought used canon eos m10 three months ago and started taking photos non-stop but the sophistication and perfection of today's cameras deliver too high-quality photos that i can't help but comparing with mine and feeling disgruntled. now that this review inspired me once again how i would like to explore the world with photography in my own way. thanks, man!
You did a great job with this video. I can tell you really feel comfortable talking about cameras and photography. That's the sweet spot for you, talk about what you know, and you'll always be on point. I had a professor once tell me to never apologize for my art. ;) Put it out there and be proud of it.
This camera is $700 NOT $200 DO NOT BE FOOLED
You can buy it used for 200 bucks basically new condition. Honestly if you aren’t doing photography for a living, buying a new camera is kind of fucking stupid
You whine alot
@@renni9813he’s already stupid for not looking it up as a used product
People who sell them, like on marketplace, just google the camera and take $100 off.. I am actively looking and can’t find one for less than $400
You can also buy used fx30 für 99$ the problem is no one is gonna sell it for the price 😂
I hardly ever shoot video with my G7X Mark II but it is by FAR the camera I have used most often over the past few years I've owned it. Great interface, snappy autofocus, surprising image quality. The only flaw I found was my screen had a loose hinge but that was an easy fix, and now I take it EVERYWHERE. Nice video (as long as you don't accidentally drive the prices up LOL)
well, the prices were way higher than $200 before this video even came out, double in fact
mine also has a loose screen hinge! how did you fix it?
@Master & Commander "sneaky" to anyone who doesn't understand anything about the concept of affiliate marketing. but even a marketer shouldn't lie about the price, won't do him favours long-term...
it's $700 now :(
I bought this camera for my dad for Christmas 2020 but he ended up not wanting to use it. I don't know if I agree about it looking like film but there is definitely something special about the way this camera renders colors and also it is extremely versatile. I have gone on multiple international trips now taking only the G7X mk II and my Olympus 35 RC, two compact cameras, one digital and one film and have had no regrets when I used to regularly bring full size DSLRs with me everywhere I went. This combination works for me as someone who is primarily a street shooter, obviously it's not going to hold up for serious landscape photographers. But yes, this camera definitely has a pleasing character to its images that I have always loved.
I appreciate your points in this video but without seeing completely unedited shots straight out of camera, I really have a hard time knowing whether this camera truly is more film-like than other compact digital cameras...
+1 on this.
New suscriber. This is one of the most beautiful video essays I have ever watched. The footage, the music, the narration, everything. Just perfect. Bravo, sir. And you make the G7X II sound like a digital Lomo LCA (a very good thing; also the reason I just bought one).
When you start buying cameras that everyone is using you will get photos that everyone is taking. When you buy cameras that nobody uses, you will start to take different photos. Good video!
I love this! I have started diving into street photography and definitely prefer less than perfect. In my search, I have unpacked a couple of older digital cameras from the early 2000's. The older cameras just have a unique vibe that modern cameras cannot deliver. Perfect exposure, ISO, etc., sadly, removes the magic from the photos I believe. Great video!
What cameras have you unpacked?
@@narej3059 The Panasonic DMC-TZ5 from about 14 years ago. I also found a Sony Mavica from even earlier. The camera that required floppy disks. It is only a few megapixels. However, in the right situations, it can pull off a nice shot or two. I also like the Canon SX740 HS, only a few years old, but still a point-and-shoot. Also takes great pics.
Yeah. They have more of a film look.
I really love mine too. I've made a few pov street photography videos with it.
Take a look at the Olympus EP series of cameras also. Underrated.
Dang... I was just looking for a cheap camera review and found this video gem of yours... I truly love how you express through the camera. You earned one more subscriber. Cheers!
I really love your videos and I miss the ones where you talk about new photographers that you've discovered in the last period, they were so inspirational and also good to grow our knowledge about other great photographers! Hope to see one of those videos soon!
The G7x ii is a camera I need to shoot more. It's the camera I got back into photography with, bought factory-refurbished a few years ago. It's limitations started me on the road towards interchangeable lens digital, particularly this one time about a dozen goldfinches were on the other side of the yard. But every now and then, I dig it out and like it more than I expect.
Video essays are my favorite format of CZcams video and this review holds the same feeling for me as a well written retrospective essay. I've never seen a review made with such high quality filmography and most importantly a sense of perspective which pervades the entire piece. Your presentation both visually and aurally is absolutely engrossing and engaging; I can't wait to see what you make moving forward
I really love mine too. I've made a few pov street photography videos with it.
I love your way of talking and presenting. You have a super soothing voice. Also: beautiful shooting / editing here. Great work!

I've recently got into photography and this showed up in my recommended, turns out I already have this camera haha! Been using it only for videos, didn't know it could take such amazing pictures!
This was such a well crafted video.
Loved hearing your insight and thought process. Found it to be fascinating!
I have been watching your videos. I truly admire your style and art. It gives a unique sensation and brings out all sorts of different emotions. It's the kind of thing that makes people feel alive.
Thanks for this video - I like the calmness and heart you're talking about the photography. I like the way you talk about using this camera - and this camera rally has something magical in the photos it shots. I like music in the background - it really helps to focus on the topic. Thanks once again.
This was a really great video, not only the content. How it was shot, the narration/delivery. Enjoyed this very much. Thanks for this!
I agree with you. A fantastic clear voice and speaking naturally makes listening a pleasure. This is my first time watching, I have the G7X III and found this video very useful. Now I have subbed and I'm looking forward to catching up and getting all the new stuff too. Thanks.
I agree, I enjoyed his delivery; the timing provided more oppotunity to absorb the words and images. Sydney never looked so good.
I completely agree. What a pleasure to watch these 10 minutes! Aesthetically pleasing, well narrated and it felt so honest...
LOL - twice have screws work loose on the rear LCD bracket on my G7X MkII - now got small screwdriver set and check every few weeks. But other than that it is a very capable camera and one of my favourites.
Btw does all the scene in this video shoot by G7x Mark II?
Nicely done visuals. You did a good job explaining some of the harder to define aspects of what make film photos look filmic.
I really love mine too. I've made a few pov street photography videos with it.
The quality of your videos is outstanding. I’ve been a Fuji fan for the past 12 years and own several. Considering picking this up. Thanks!
Been shopping for a budget friendly digital camera that gives me film like results. Your video is very good at showcasing your shots and not being so clinical about the specs of the camera.
This is exactly why I love my Pentax Q camera. It was a an anniversary gift for my parents back in 2011 but I was the one mainly using it. The blooms, the grains, the color, they’re just film-like perfect.
Yes! Same here! Love the Q! Greetings from a fellow PentaxQ daily carrier from Poland!
is the low light performance unusable? i need to know
Giving gifts indirectly to oneself is tight!
Same here, but I sold it years ago. And now I want it back but couldn't find it in my local market.
Is it just the Pentax Q? Not Q7 or Q10?
It is so, so interesting seeing Sydney through an other street photographer's eye and camera system. So many familiar areas cast in new lights, angles, and focal lengths! Great thoughts and video!
Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. It's nice to see familiar sceneries, especially shots taken around Town Hall and George St.
I bought this camera for travel purposes in 2017 and it’s been by my side ever since. It’s just so awesome.
quality on this video is mindblowing! you definitely know what you're doing, and although as you mentioned it felt uncomfortable doing it... You absolutely NAILED it!
Great video. There are plenty of older digital cameras out there that are worthy of attention. It feels like a golden era for digital....
Hands down the best video of G7X Mark II review. Ive been rewatching this video as if it was a documentary. Very well made & I am getting this camera asap!
Great, calming video that just made me buy this camera. Thank you for your gentle approach to showcasing this beauty!
This video was absolutely beautiful! Well done!
I have watched this video 4 or 5 times in the last 24 hours. What a beautiful showcase, You've inspired me to get my first camera. To be honest, I've never really given photography much thought, but your compositions made me feel something, and for that, thank you. I wish you the best of success!

Thank you for this video! I own a Leica D-Lux 7 for my street photography, and I love it. This video however teaches me a lot about film/digital cameras. I have a lot to think about now, haha. Thank you for this video!
First time I’m seeing a video of you, but love the whole vibe. Images, background music and your voice fit very well together. I has a soothing (not sure if i use this correctly) effect!
You're amazing, thank you. I truly love your content, the process and aesthetics remind me the design philosophy class I took back in the school.
Beautifully shot, paced, and considered. I enjoyed this greatly and share the sentiment regarding older digital cameras. My particular fascination is with CCD sensor cameras. Whilst the
Leica M9 is wonderful, I particularly enjoy the Fuji S5 pro combined with older Nikon lenses for portraiture…
That camera is great for the price. It’s very high spec. So long as the lens is not scratched and it all work. It’s a bargin.. nothing wrong with an old camera, people forget you used to buy a film camera and keep the same camera for years
Original Leicas are still being used.. digital has made cameras more throw away, but it shouldn’t be like that
the disposability is definitely by design, they gotta get that reoccurring income. so annoying that tech in all segments has become that
Damn! Great video man! You can fully see your passion for photography!
Very good point & observation here. I'm looking back at some of my point & shoot canon & Panasonic images from 2008-2012 era and they each have a distinct characteristics & imperfections that make a signature look.
Another great video. I also realized that what I am looking for in my photography apart from composition and interesting shapes and lighting is “character” (whatever that means…). I recently sold my Fuji stuff and my GR III and got a Lumix GX9 with Leica 15mm. Sure the sensor is smaller and the lens is not necessarily the sharpest but I just like to shoot with it and the images tend to have a certain characteristic to them that I like. I’m also eyeing the Canon GX7 m2 and waiting to spot a good deal and I’m also looking into older Pentax DSLRs to directly adapt my vintage K mount lenses
These videos are so much more fun to watch that any other type of camera review. Loved it, and subscribed
Same thoughts tbh
What a great video! I appreciate the simplicity and elegance of it!
i watched this video, i could not sleep cuz i just had to have the g7x mk2 after i saw the photos you took with it, and the next day i had to get it, and its been awesome. Thanks for getting me excited about photography again🙏🏼
I've had this camera for a few years now. I shoot mostly with Fuji cameras and love them, but this Canon is an exception for me. Great performance in a small compact body. I take this camera with me wherever any of my APS-C cameras are already too big. This camera can fit in any pocket and still take great photos with it. It doesn't have the magic of using Fuji cameras, but the results are great.
Thank you for this video! I've had my G7XII sitting in a drawer ever since I got my full frame, but now I can't wait to use it again! Lately I've been looking for a travel camera (X100V), but now I realize I've already got a great, pocketable camera with just as much character. Thanks for helping me to appreciate it!
x100v the 2k$ camera?
Watching this on my lunch break and the video totally took ma away. Love the content, style and delivery. Never expected a camera review to did what this did to me today. Desperately needed to calm the f down and reset. Thanks!
Great video and really pleased to hear you’re enjoying your Canon and not just plugging the latest and greatest.
My G12 is still used as a daily carry round. Great images and a battery that lasts forever
This camera looks very interesting to me. I am getting on in years and was taught film photography in grade 9. In school we developed our own film, made contact sheets and then prints. My dad was a photo nut and had a darkroom in our basement where he also taught me to the entire process. We used mostly B+W Kodak Tri X 400 ASA film and printed 8x10 but we did experiment with Cibachrome colour film. One bonus was we also had a Russian Kirilian photography device acquired from a local college that didn’t want it anymore and I made many colour aura photos of my fingers and hands, leaves and small objects. Smell of ozone. I was about 12 when I started and did it for 5 years. I wish film and chemicals weren’t so expensive, still have the enlarger.
I really love mine too. I've made a few pov street photography videos with it.

That's a $700 camera here. Around $400 used. One of the perks of living in an expensive country 😅
Around $1300 here, perks of seeing the video a year later when it's made million of views
Yep, $648.91 is the price in Bulgaria at the moment.
You can blame it on Sleepy Joe
For me it doesn't compute how an older model second hand is almost the same price as a newer camera...or some of the better alternative options
I love your usage of sound and music in this video!
That was wonderful to watch aesthetically and informative to boot. Thank you.
I've been shooting a Canon G7x ii for a year now. My main camera is a Fujifilm X-T2. I like to take a camera with me wherever I go. With two little babies often in tow, I don't have room or hands to carry a "normal" camera. The G7x solved this problem for me. And I get great images with it. I especially love the pop-out flash. Really gives that point and shoot direct flash look that I love.
Im normaly someone who watches a video at 2x speed but your narration and music choice was soo good and a little methodic that I totally forgot to speed it up. It was a nice change in pass to the normal in your face youtube videos. Thank you really liked the video keep it up.

My favorite retro digital camera is the Fuji f30. It's a 6 megapixel from 2006. The sensor on it was just incredible and noise looked a lot more camera grain like than with nearly anything else even from 10 years later. My biggest personal gripe was that it was only a 36-108mm lens and I like to widen back to at least 28mm. Otherwise I might consider trying to find one again. Even the original one I had I bought years after it came out and it still held its own. Unlike with many other cameras you could zoom in to 100% and pixel peep and the image would still hold up great.
recently started getting into photography and videography and wanted something more than my iphone camera, i picked up the g7x mk3 and i instantly loved it the videos come out really nice and the photos just have a certain characteristic to them. the g7x lineup of cameras from what ive heard are all pretty good and this video just made me love my camera even more and made me want to get out there and take more photos thanks for the video.

Whenever I dust off the old Sony a390 and shoot with it’s CCD sensor, I’m always blown away by the colors. The best part is that the old Minolta A-mount lenses pair beautifully with the colors creating a wonderfully imperfect yet realistic image quality.
Deciding to get this as a starter and I love the colors. Thank you!
Great video. Currently for the "vintage digital" look, I am using a Fujifilm X-E1 with a Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 and other old manual focus lenses -- I will definitely look out for the Canon G7x ii.Thanks.
Lovely to see another of youre very well thought out videos. I think you make valid points - I still love my canon 5D as its output looks film like to me. I will look out for the canon gx7 II as it would be a useful addition to my walk around camera the GRiii - sometimes the 28mm lens is just too wide. Thanks

Love your videos and content. Please keep going! Your videos are refreshing!!!
i have this camera and originally purchased in 2017 because of the form factor (easily fit in a large pocket), and the 1" sensor. It takes really good low light pics. I only take in on vacations but this video reminds me i should take it out more often. thank you for the inspo.
i own the g7x mk ii too. love it !! bring it for dive trips too. and yes, the price of x100v is way to inflated . thanks for bringing this camera to a spotlight of it its own.
Hi I just want to come back and say this video changed my life. I already had a G7x ii lying around and I sort of neglected it for a long time to take videos because of my depression. This video gave me a small enough step to pick up my camera again, simply shoot one single picture. That single picture led to reason to leave the bed and go outside and experience life again.
Oh and my photos are stunning now thanks to your settings video. One million thank yous!
Your comment made me very happy, Rawrpie. Thanks for sharing ❤
This was a great video man! also love how you shot the A roll
Neat - I bought this camera way back as a video first camera, and now seeing this I'm intrigued to get it back up and running to see if I see similar results.
I checked the price and now it’s above $899CA 😭😭 it’s so sad cause I’ve been looking for a camera like this and it’s so expensive now..
I'm using many professional expensive cameras for work but this particular camera still has a place in my heart :) Thanks for sharing this, Ulysses! High five from Sydney, too!

Really interesting comments there and a perspective I haven’t previously considered for a camera I’ve owned for four years. My initial purchase was motivated from the perspective of a very capable , inconspicuous camera for everyday use with my only regret being its lack of a seperate mic input jack. (As found in the ver iii model.) Currently on loan to a beginner I’ll be giving its images a rethink when it comes back !!😀

Wow - I feel like this video was a love letter to my Canon G7X Mk ii. A camera that I should have paid much more attention to than I have. I bought it for vlogging purposes - but never quite got into vlogging. So it just sat ignored. Until recently I picked it up again for photography purposes. It takes gorgeous photos. That Canon color science is just right for me. There's so much for me to learn and I think I'll be able to do that with this camera.

Nice one! I've been shooting old zooms for a couple of years now, even before the digicam craze. Like everyone else, I was firstly drawn by CCD colors and the price of this cameras. Also, some of them have quirky features which can make them really fun to use. I'm yet to try the Canon G5x or G7x. Right now I have my eyes on a Ricoh CX3. Cheers!
I've been shooting on DSLRs since 2007, but wanted something more compact for my hiking trips. First I wanted sony rx100 (even though I'm on Canon since 2003) but what made me buy G5X mk1 instead of all these models is the viewfinder...
@@damirkvajo hey, I’m also looking for s g5x bc of the viewfinder. Do you reckon the sensor and image quality to be exactly the same as in this video about g7x??

awesome video, loved the storytelling, coloring and cinematography!
The color grading in this video looks really good! I just got a new point and shoot, Sony hx99. But maybe I should’ve gone for the canon instead!
Really enjoyed this video thank you. What you said about grit and grain resonates with me very much. I’m thinking of going with a compact camera again and happened upon this. So hard to get a smart phone now to take photos that represent what my eyes see - and they are the photos I appreciate most because of their imperfections!
Would you say that this has better image quality than iphones? I hear may say that even old point and shoot powershots look better than iphone 11 and etc.
@@realamericannegro977 I think it depends on what you like yourself with your personal preference is with an image. The thing with a modern phones and cameras is that they do so much of the processing for you. Whereas the older cameras in all their imperfections can be perfect in my eyes. @@realamericannegro977 I meant to say that I don’t have this particular camera myself.
Your video intrigued me and now I'm thinking of buying it. It's quite pricey where I live (1099lv or 560€) so I want to make sure it's worth the money. I love how you emphasized on the imperfect photos and that's exactly what I want.
I've had one for years, and it's awesome. I love that it shots raw and I can dump photos into Lightroom and edit them there as well. Being pocket I can take this into places I can't my DSLR into it. The low light auto focus isn't great at times , but if you take enough photos you'll get the shot you want. It takes practice to use and realize it's not going to be perfect on the first pass.
Fuji xpro has modes in it that will emulate a range of the most popular films that were available back in the day. Highly recommend checking it out if you want to shoot digital camera but have the soul of film in your photo
All Fuji cameras have the film mode.
Congrats on the reach this video is receiving!
Much deserved ✨
Great video. I live in Sydney so it is feels odd seeing a video like this where so many locations are instantly recognisable and intimately familiar to me.
