That antenna is great. I build my own with a roll of wire and an alligator clip, but keep it and try it out. the higher you get it, the better, you can even tack it up around a hotel room. The difference will be amazing

Thanks for the comment, I have a similar antenna that came with my County Comm Gp5/ssb that I use... it does wonders.

Hope you enjoy SW. Got into SW in 1980s, and started my whole radio hobby-occupation. Since then, many SW stations/nations have gone internet, which has really killed first and second world nation listening on the dial, versus laptop. My Sony SW could run entire AM/FM/SW and other bands - such a blessed killer radio for $180. So if you get a real radio, having the entire radio band frequencies makes great domestic and international radio listening. Having a hand crank radio makes even greater sense with these. Reagan had the same radio when he was overseas listening to radio.
Another good option, the 11th "C" communications, Kullkraven agrees, is our U.S. version of Eton MicroLink F60. Solar cell, hand crank, flashlight, AM/FM/WX. I use this everyday ... Good option for outback. Can also crank, with proper USB cabling, and charge your cell phone.
I see your Baofeng. We have heard many "not-positive" issues with the Baofeng and Wouxon radios. Chips burning, software after 1 1/2 years goes Alzheimers .... For the sake of real money, paying for a good/great ham transceiver, will have lasting benefits into the future. I have my Yaesu FT60s, FT250s, and other C Crane hand crank and hand held GMRS base station, and FRS radios (for our local EOC FEMA/DHS/ham volunteers disaster/emergency operations).
C.Crane has good options for radios and equipment. www.ccrane.com/!yABo0Q0st29ufS60nJ5Znw!/
Always good seeing bushies and preppies fulfilling their 11th "C," which is not usually talked about.

+John Lord Yeah, I have really enjoyed listening to SW of the past few weeks even tho there isn't much quality content. I am a bit of a news junky so I usually hunt for BBC broadcasts and such. I really have enjoyed the English Radio Havana broadcasts too...

Thanks for this review, I was thinking of picking one up, would you still recommend? Or should I go bigger?

+Canadian Prepper I really like this radio but am more impressed with he Tecsun 880. The 880 has wider coverage, can do Single Side Band (HAM comms) and can run off an 18650 battery. The 880 is pretty big though.
Also Tecsun makes a radio for County Comm, GSB (I think) that is smaller than the 880, can do SSB but doesn't had a direct dial keypad.
There really isn't a best between the 3 radios. The 880 is the best performer but has the largest footprint.

+Canadian Prepper There is nothing wrong with the 380 but you will have a much better "shortwave" experience with the 880. The 880 is about 150$ USD.
Also, you might want to check out the C.Crane line if you want to go small.

Excellent, thanks for the suggestions will look into the 880

Canadian Prepper Good luck with it. I keep my 880 on my desk and listen to it almost daily. I lost my first one, I think I left it at a camp sight, so I am on my second.

Damn! I got a Sony but always was looking for a replacement. I need to order this. How you still like it?

+Jim Cyr I love it... I still use it quite a bit and at 40$ it's a bargain. I do listen to my PL-880 more, as in every day, but they are about 150$ which is allot...

When shtf you need to have comms. And listening is far far more important than talking. Your ears can save your ass when the world starts to fall apart here in a few months.
