    I am a very new crafter to slow stitching and have been too careful with being too neat and perfect, so happy to see that being perfect is not what this craft is all about. Great ideas to get me so excited, many thanks.

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  Před 2 lety

      Go fo it, Kay! Slow stitching is definitely not about perfect for me - I think some of my "proper embroiderer" friends would have to not look too closely at my stitching :) For me, it's like playing, just doodling with a needle and thread. It doesn't have to cost much to do either, you can use up little pieces of old fabric and buttons and things you've got stashed away. Maybe just try something small, like a needle book for instance, as a first project. Recommend Roxy's Creations here on You Tube if you haven't checked out her channel already. Have fun and thank you for watching :)

    Oh Annie!! Your book is incredible. Absolutely gorgeous from the belly band to the sweet cross-stitch on the back cover. I loved listening to the stories and meaning behind your treasures and especially how addictive and enjoyable you found the project. Each time you turned the page I though "that's my favourite" until you turned to the next one. But I think my absolute favourite is the navy, white & yellow heart and pocket spread or maybe the weaving one... I'm just watching it a second time. I'm so happy to have inspired you and hope you do try the other challenges. Oh you've really made me want to do some more stitching, maybe even make another book. Thank you so much for making lots of videos that show all your creative talents. I love them!

      Oh thank you so much, it means such a lot to me that you like it - the day I stumbled across your channel sent me off on a very long but very enjoyable journey, so thank you for sharing your inspiring work. The best thing about You Tube, or the internet in general for me, is the way we can connect and share ideas with people we'd never have met otherwise, and be inspired to try things we'd never have thought of :)

    Annie, your book is absolutely charming! Thank you for sharing it. I am currently taking part in Anne’s 52 tags project - which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed - but will look back at her sew for the soul book videos for when the tags finish. I’d love to produce a book as lovely as yours for my next project! You’re absolutely right, there’s something about hand sewing that is very calming and you can get lost in the process of doing something ‘just because’ - I call it “metime” and after retiring last year, don’t feel the least bit guilty in doing something just for the sake of it, instead of because I ought to or should do - it just makes me happy! Keep sewing 😊

      @artyfartyannie  Před 2 lety

      Thank you Nikki, yes Anne definitely hit on something which appeals to so many of us for the reasons you describe, and I love her inspiring ideas and style of teaching. It's also such a good way to enjoy those lovely bits and bobs we all have squirrelled away but not sure what to do with. Keep on enjoying your sewing for enjoyment's sake, that's what retirement is for I say! :) I have an idea brewing for my own slow sewing boho style with the gorgeous recycled treasures I got from Bazaar - watch this space, I might call it boho slow sew :D

    Your “bullet stitch” is in fact called “pistil stitch”, as in the pistils in a flower, not pistol as in gun.
    I started my book 3 or more years ago (also late to the party), and put it away unfinished at the negative and positive circles page when life got in the way. I brought it out again last night and wanted a refresher and inspiration, and serendipitously found your video. I love every single page, and I can’t wait to get going again and finish mine.

      hehe yes I realised that a while after I'd made this video - I can see where my mind was going though. It's still one of my favourite stitches now, and I use it a lot. I'm so happy you've got back to your book Frances, please do share some pics and tag me, I'd love to see :)

    That is just gorgeous, I think I may attempt one. I could use it as a reference and inspiration for future projects. The round things that look like scrunchies, what are they called? I could use these as a coral feature in an aquatic panel I am creating.

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Johnny, thanks very much, glad you like it. I think you should definitely give it a go and it would be a great way to experiment with ideas for future projects, it would be almost like a swatch book. The round things are called "Suffolk Puffs" - there are probably loads of vids on YT about them. They're really cook aren't they, very easy to make and you can make them neat or leave frayed edges, add contrast middles, all sorts - and I agree, they could definitely look like coral, or barnacles or even suckers on tentacles!

      Thank you - this was a while ago so I can't exactly remember, but I was following along with Anne Brooke's Sew4TheSoul Book, so I think I did it the same way she did - you'll easily find her on CZcams, look for her Sew4TheSoul playlist. Also I'll be putting together similar books for my Treasury of Swaps, so look out for those coming soon, I'll be making a start on them this week :)
