Over and above the 100 shortcuts, I also throw in tons of bonus tips in this video to help you edit faster in Final Cut Pro. The number one way to become a better editor and a faster editor in my opinion, is to learn and memorise shortcuts. Hopefully, this Final Cut Pro tutorial and free PDF will help you improve your Final Cut Pro workflow.
One quick note before we start, when I say Alt, it might be Option on your keyboard.

Keep the FCPX tutorials coming!
Thanks so much! Will do 😄🙏🏼
Awesome & Thanks :)
You're welcome!
Thank you so much for all the great info and printable cheat sheet! I have been using FCPX for about a year but have been mostly without internet, so learning has been a struggle! Glad to have something handy like this when I'm working out of service!
I’m so glad that will come in handy Emily! Appreciate you watching 😄🙌🏼
Is there anything in particular that you’re struggling with that you’d like to see a tutorial on?
@@Brad_West thanks for your reply! I'm working my way through your playlists and learning all sorts of things I didn't even know existed 🤣I really like your teaching style and your professional video clips that you include in the tutorials. I would love to see a video on your creative workflow; how you approach a new project, how you organize and put the puzzle pieces together!
@@EmilyBreck Appreciate that Emily. Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely add that idea to my list 😄🙏🏼
Beautiful 😍
Thank you 😊🙏🏼
This was super helpful! Thanks a lot!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching guys 😄🙏🏼 Any specific tutorial you would like to see on the channel in future?
Some time ago I made a playlist of FCPX tutorials so that I can quickly find them again when I inevitably forget how to do something. Most of the videos it contains are made by you, and I added this one before the advert at the beginning finished playing. I know I'll be coming back time and time again to watch this. Thank you for all your helpful tutorials.
By the way, how the devil did you make the amazing transition to my age 14 seconds in? I'd love to see a tutorial about that. Maybe I can reverse the process and make myself look young again.
That is so cool to hear Colin, thank you 😊🙏🏼 I’m glad that the videos are something you can refer back to.
I will definitely make a tutorial on how to do the growing old effect and you can actually do a younger version too. Will be interesting to see how that turns out 😄🤙🏼
👌thanks for your work!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 😄👊🏼
Thanks! Great video!
Wow thank you so much for the support. Glad you liked it! Appreciate you!
Superb
Thank you 😊🙏🏼
I was just thinking of FCPX shortcuts and this video pop up. I wish this is the only fcpx shortcut video I'll ever need. Thanks man, really great work!👌👌🙏
That’s awesome! What great timing 😄🙌🏼 Which shortcut is your favorite?
@@Brad_West control+D🙂✌ is my favorite. Btw bro I couldn't download the PDF (it shows failed to open page)
@@Galib_Rahman That's odd. Is that after putting your email address in? Or is that the page that failed to open? IF you got the email, try right-clicking on the button and copying the link and then pasting that in your browser. Alternatively, send me an email via that contact page on the website and I'll send it to you.
@@Brad_West okay, I found the solution. I downloaded using VPN. It worked. Thanks bro. Love your awesome support. Looking forward to get new content. I recently quit premiere pro after 8 years, once I was final cut pro fanboy and now I am back. I forgot almost 80% of the thing so your video will help a lot. Cheers🙂
Glad you found a solution! Welcome back to the FCP fam! 😄🤙🏼 Thanks for watching!
Fantastic. I beleive I didn't use about 30% of what you mentioned. Really appreciate it^^
Learning this from a person is much better then skimming through the Apple FCPX manual on shortcuts that made me sleepy every single time I started lol
Thanks again, I subscribed!
I also remember stumbling across your tutorial about two years ago and it's very obvious that your editing has levelled up significantly. Great job~
Glad it was helpful Inga! The Apple FCP manual is not the most exciting thing to read 🤣 Thanks for watching!
That means a lot, thank you so much! 🙏🏼
thank you
My pleasure Casey!
Top top video 🤩 ✅ Subscribed ✅
Thanks for the sub! Appreciate the support James 😄👊🏼
Thanks bro
No problem!
Thanks
Thank you so much for the support! 😄🙏🏼
great
Thank you!
Thank you Brad!! I just came across your awesome channel! These 100 shortcuts will certainly help a ton! I have a question if you don't mind; I have a lot of unedited video that I would like to pre-edit with in and out points and save back into my video folders before actually editing in within FCPX. I don't want to lose any structure data losing the ability for color grading, etc. If I can do this ahead of time, it would save me a ton of time in FCPX. Is there a simple way to accomplish this? Thanks again for this awesome video!! Beyond Happy to be a new subscriber!! 👍😊
Thanks so much for the sub 😄🙏🏼
Yeah you could set in out and points in QuickTime to trim the clips but a far more effective way in my opinion would be to import all the clips and set in and out points in FCP in the browser window using I and O, then only importing those selections onto your timeline. Hope that helps 😄🤞🏼
@@Brad_West Thank you Brad, appreciate your help. 👍😊
Its not related to this video, but can u make a video in which it shows how to export different video & audio stems in FCPX differently or in one go. really want to learn about it ..
That’s a great idea. I will add that to my list 😄🙏🏼
Cool video thanks! It's actually kind of scary how many of these shortcuts I already use everyday, without realising I use these shortcuts haha
That’s awesome to hear! That means you must be a very efficient editor 😄🙌🏼
Do you ever program the function keys for custom shortcuts?
I don’t personally but that’s a good option for custom keys 😄👌🏼
Question: is there a way create a shortcut for optical flow along with slowing clips down? Thanks for this awesome video.
I’m not sure if optical flow appears in the keyboard commands when you customize shortcuts. I’d have to check. But I’m pretty sure you could do this with CommandPost. 🤔
@@Brad_West Interesting. What is CommandPost? I have not utilized this feature. Thanks again.
Ooooo! You’re in for a treat if you’ve never heard of CommandPost. It’s a free app that adds loads of functionality to FCP. I did a video on it some time back, check it out: czcams.com/video/KWN1mk-138s/video.html
@@Brad_West Just letting you know.. this worked! Added it to my touch bar. Thanks again for your expertise.
Awesome! I’m glad it worked for you. CommandPost is full of great features. 🙌🏼
Is there a way to pre-render a range selection within a clip? I've only been able to pre-render whole clips.
Unfortunately you can't use the range tool to make a selection and render that. A workaround is to create a title using Ctrl T, then select it and hit V to disable it. You that title to cover the area you want to render and with that title still selected hit Ctrl R to render that section. Hope that helps!
@@Brad_West thanks for the workaround! Just tried and it works great. :)
Awesome! I’m glad the workaround worked for you. 😄🤙🏼
6:07 didn't know about the other vid but that's not the tile, that's a "Virgulilla" (~), the Tilde is the other symbol: `
😄👍🏼
how to select all the clips to the right of the play head ? we hv that option in premier but can’t find it in fcpx .. pls suggest
Yeah unfortunately FCP doesn’t have that option. You would have to click and drag to select all of the clips.
@@Brad_West 🙁🙁 .. thanks fr the reply
If you only have footage on the primary storyline, you can select the clip at your play head, scroll to the end and shift click on the last clip to select everything to the right of where the play had initially was.
@@Brad_West nope .. i hv clips over the primary storyline. looks like selecting all the clips is what i hv to do. .. risky menuevere. Apple should add this feature in fcpx. there r a lot of useful features missing in fcpx which we get in premiere. So many audio features r not here in fcpx .. like putting effects on tracks in audio track mixer. i think that’s missing in fcpx too
Yeah agreed! I’d love to have a mixer, more specifically a roles based mixer in FCP. Hoping we get some good updates soon 🤞🏼
Hey Brad and Donna, really liked your video 100 Shortcuts every FCP Editor MUST KNOW, have you ever thought of getting a verification badge for your channel? It will definitely boost your views and subs by 100X.
No, didn’t know that was a thing.
start/endtrimming. which shortcut on a europa-keyboard? dont find the bracket...😭
I’m not sure what it is on a European keyboard but you can go into the shortcut key editor and search for “Trim Start” and “Trim End” and you’ll be able to see what it is assigned to, or you can assign it to any shortcut you prefer.
How come you dont have any info on keyboard shortcuts for editing 1-5. I've been stuck here for 2 weeks. You say it's your favorite way to switch angles, but nothing about how
It’s my favorite way to switch angles when using multicam clips. If you’re not familiar with multicam clips, this video might help: czcams.com/video/W4F0Ef1u7wU/video.html
Okay how did you grow old???
I did a tutorial on that recently, which you can watch here: czcams.com/video/FjHsxQOgWZ8/video.html 😄
Bro i Cant Download
Did you get the email?
@@Brad_West no bro
Did you click on the link, fill out the form and double check your spam folder?
@@Brad_West s i done
@@kingjesus5325 Please send me an email via the contact page on the website and I'll send it to you.
wtF is your tilde key doing there!?
The tilde key allowed me to delete the clips on the primary storyline without affecting the clips above in that example.
@@Brad_West I was making a joke that I’ve never seen that key placed in that spot.
Haha that went right over my head lol 😂🤙🏼
Hey @brad_west, I've tried several times to get your free 100 shortcuts PDF and it has not shown up in my email. I've checked the spam folder, promotions, etc. and there is no sign of it. Any ideas?
Hey Rob! That is super weird. I feel like I also saw an email from you? But it seems to have disappeared. Can you please send me an email and I'll look into it for you 😄
@@Brad_West Thanks! Sent you an email today.
@@robschannel7519got it! Sent you a new link 😄🤙🏼
