Driving Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys

- Florida's Seven Mile Bridge is an epic overseas highway connecting Knight's Key in Marathon to the Little Duck Key in the lower Florida Keys. It is one of the longest in the world and features views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. The original Seven Mile bridge from Knights Key to Pigeon Key was converted to pedestrian and bicycle use. The rest of the original bridge has been abandoned, and is home to "Fred" the tree - a local landmark.

Amazing how much trust we put into complete strangers everyday just by traveling highways. Im sure head-on collisions have happened many times on this bridge. If youre a victim of one, its over if youre doing 55+ mph. One of my coworkers and his wife was hit in a head-on collision and the elderly couple that hit them were both killed on impact and my coworker and his wife were both really messed up. They got lucky, but the elderly couple did not. They were the ones that swerved over though (the elderly couple).

I remember when it was 2 lanes. I prayed my way across it. Scary as heck. If you were behind me, sorry. I'd slow to about 5 to 10 mpr.
