I had a 2021 250 Pro XS on order until Mercury Australia pulled the rug out from under its dealers a few weeks ago. I had it on order for the last 8 months to be told that it might, might be supplied by March 2022. Unfortunately I believe on paper the Mercury V8 should have a much better torque potential than all it’s competitors in the naturally aspirated versions. But I did have concerns for reliability so I’m not too disappointed that my engine has fallen through and I have swapped it for a Yamaha instead. On a side note my previous PRO XS blew up on its maiden run before it even left the dealership. Mercury will more than likely get you there quicker but possibly not back again. Sorry to my American friends that stand behind their manufacturing industries but I think the Japanese are hard to beat for reliability of their products whether they’re bikes boats or cars.

Check to see if you have that gray fuel line! Seeing a lot of videos on the liner inside the gray lines deteriorating and clogging the fuel filter. Your boat is acting the same way the ones are in other videos. That’s where I’d start. Good luck!

I'm going to say it's fuel delivery. I've heard of a few instances of poor line routing and lines getting pinched. I'm expecting mine to deliver within the next couple weeks and that is the first thing I'm inspecting for. Check your tank for debris as well. Most likely you're able to charge the fuel line with enough to get a couple minutes of good run time but a restriction is causing you to starve out.

I have had my Mercury 115 ProXS on my Ranger for 3 years without a problem🤞. I also think it’s something with the fuel intake. Unfortunately every manufacturer is susceptible to problems. Hopefully this gets solved quickly.

Had a very similar problem with a Ranger RT 188. It had a Yamaha engine. Turned out to be the vent on the gas tank not allowing air in as the fuel was sucked out by the motor. This created a vacuum in the fuel tank and starved the engine for fuel. The engine would die and would only run at idle speed.

    • @Wooduck
      @Wooduck Před rokem

Agree Ben, 99% of the time it's a fuel problem and if it ain't sucking air a vacuum will form and down she goes. I never tighten my tank cap I leave it loose just for this reason. Start there and work yourself to the lines filter and pump, it's all about fuel as I can tell.

I had a problem with my 2018 Honda 115 running and stalling out. I hooked the fuel line to a portable tank and motor ran fine. Went back to the boats fuel line and my problem came back. I now have 415 hours on my motor and only occasionally do I have the stall out problem. Whatever is in the tank has thankfully taken a vacation.

I was able to find that air had gotten in the fuel line. I pushed the air and fuel through by using the release on the fuel rail. Took it back out and it ran great. It is possible that all of this stems from some type of fuel plumbing issue. Hard to say, but at least the dang thing has been working 👍🏻

First, if you are taking it to a shop and they aren’t fixing it, that’s your shop’s fault. Find another shop. I just got done diagnosing a similar problem on my 2017 pro xs (115hp). It was the anti back flow valve (ASM valve) on the tank. Hard to diagnose but easy to replace. Part was $125.

I’ve 930 hours on mine without issue. I’d say in the first video, you’ve got smoke coming out her. Could be too much oil or not burning the fuel. Other videos it looks like a fuel restriction for sure. It’s not going to be a limp mode or it would alarm. I’d get a VesselView mobile for it and see what that says. One video sounds like the fuel pump is running dry or something.

@@Jason114752 well, let's start with the at the dealership... skeg was banged up because the mechanic didn't raise the motor before hauling the boat, trailer cover ($1,000 extra) tore on the 6 hour ride home. The week following the purchase we were due to leave for Canada... Road armor paint peeling off, brakes lines broke the day before a trip to Canada and three more times on the way there. Screws falling out of the steering wheel while riding across the lake, as well as the transom and various other places, windshield wouldn't close (still doesn't after being fixed), dry wells do not hold water out even after having the seals replaced (they had big chunks cut out), electric plugs put in upside down as well as the plug covers, one speaker didn't work (they did fix that), gas gauge wasn't working and isn't again (told that wasn't plugged in the first time), sealant dripping away from drainage ports, screws and metal shavings in the hull, bilge pump wouldn't work and isn't working again after being replaced, livewell and baitwell don't operate properly (sometimes they don't fill, they drain when on recirculate, then won't drain when you engage the drain, the cables were rusted and broken, leaves left behind the panel where the switches are for operating the wells), boat hull fills with water (real problem when the bilge doesn't work), transom saver cracked, motor auto trims when auto trim is turned off, motor won't trim up all the way at once (you have to trim it till it stops then wait a few seconds or minutes to finish trimming), some type of warning comes up on the depth finder about reconnecting the powerhead of the motor to keep from losing data, carpet around the jump seats coming apart, stapling coming out of the bottom of the jump seats, vinyl flooring peeling up, the pad the electric trolling motor sits on is cracked and peeling up, paint is bubbling, steering rod between the motors; 1st was damaged by rubbing the boat and 200 hp and 15hp motors (caused damage to the motors as well), steering rod 2 broke in half, steering rod 3 has held up but still rubbing the boat, it's minor but the wiring from the motor to the boat came in a fish net style tubing instead of the hard plastic corrugated tube that it's supposed to. I'm sure I'm forgetting some of the issues. But yeah, 2 trips to the shop and still a ton of issues, the biggest problem being on the water and the bilge constantly not working while taking on water is a dangerous scenario. Due for the final trip to the shop on the 30th. Hoping they call it a lemon and give us our money back. We're done with dealing with it. I did love the inboard cooler and the motors. Those G2'S were awesome! 51mph and on plane in less than 2 seconds. I don't know why they stopped production on the evinrude G2's, I know everyone has their favorites and for different reasons but those motors are awesome for the short time we got to run them. Oh and just unhappy with the wet ride the boat provides in any chop. It doesn't push water down and out the way a boat should. They also need to add a place to stow the rain fly.

I recently picked up my new 2023 VS1782 with a 115 pro xs and took it out for the first time this weekend. I got about 200 meters from the dock and maybe 3 to 4 mins of run time at idle waiting for my wife to park the trailer. Then as soon as i got on the throttle I had the exact same issue of the motor dying like it was out of gas. Just got off the phone with the dealer they seemed a bit skeptical as they swore up and down they went through everything twice and never had an issue in their test tank. To check this, buy a cheap 6 gallon tank and fuel line from Walmart, run it straight into the engine and see if that fixes it and work backward, good luck. I feel your frustration

You have fuel issues. That's a boat manufacturer issue or dealer rigging issue. 3 gallon fuel tank directly to the motor to test. Unfortunately the engine manufacturer always gets blamed for issues on the boat side. Remember, engine manufacturers have no control on who installs their motors on whatever boat and what quality that is fine at. Good luck.

I had the exact same problem with a 60hp Mercury 4 stroke. Problem ended up being the low pressure fuel pump. The plastic diaphragm inside the fuel pump would fall apart and little pieces of clear plastic, 1/8" to 1/4" in size, would lodge in the VST tank elbows. The plastic would move around inside the elbows so depending on how much it restricted the fuel flow the motor would work fine, other times it would barely run, sometimes it would not start at all. I am not familiar with the 115hp motor so I can't say if this is your problem but something I would check out. To fix I had to replace the low pressure fuel pump and pull off the fuel lines and VST tank. Remove the VST tank cover and blow out all the fittings and lines with a compressor, the plastic is really hard to see and get out sometimes so you need to be thorough. This happened multiple times with my motor, about every 2 years. I spoke with Mercury about it and their response was just to change the fuel pump more often...

The Mercury guys had it out on the lake a few days ago and believe it is a lift pump. We’ll see! Getting pretty old storing my boat at the mechanic shop

brand new doesnt mean anything we have shit gas. make sure you put premium gas i put a small amount of seafoam in 60 litres every fill. dealers will say its not good but theyre bullshitting you to buy the mercury bullshit stuff that doesnt work. its a simple fix bro. even the smallest buildup will cause the engine to starve eventually higher or lower rpm depending on how bad it is . i did a sea foam flush in the driveway. . dont use seafoam if under warranty i think it voids it lol. but my dads merc 90hp efi 2005 has had no issues for 2010 when we started doing it. before then i would always get the same issues. exactly the same. starts out higher rpm then if i didnt clean out the VST filter i think is what its called little compression type filter past the actual fuel filter. might be different on your engine. but its a simple fix.

So, initially I was like this guy is a butthead. But in the name of science I trimmed the heck outta my motor on the lake and hit 6200 rpm. So ahhh, there’s that haha 😂. Thanks bro 🤙🏻

I have a mercury 115 xs pro. Had it 1 year 2 months. She's always started as soon as you turn the key. Now she's not wanting to start. I have to put in neutral give it some gas try a few times it will crank. I can hear the fuel pump kick on every time I turn the key. But it acts like it's not getting gas. Any help???

    • @Jason114752

Sorry to hear about this. I agree, probably not getting fuel. There may air in the line from some bad connection in your fuel line. On the starboard side of your motor is a fuel rail and on it is a little black cap. You can turn your key and let the pump prime the line and depress the little pin beneath the black cap. Gasoline will come out so take the proper precautions. I’ve done this a few times and it reprimes the line and removes air. That is not a permanent solution though. My top three guesses, air leak, faulty pump, gas cap vent. Please let me know what you find out
