They jump into things with the news that Google’s March Update is finally complete!
It finished rolling shorturl.at/mrEFJ out on April 19th, and Spencer and Jared discuss the update in general, how long it took, and why its conclusion might not have been announced by Google until later.
They also discuss why nobody has recovered from the Helpful Content Update, whether Google even knows how someone might recover, and what this all means.
They move on to discuss the winners and losers shorturl.at/rOX14 from the March 2023 Core and Spam Updates, looking at different types of traffic losses and naming some surprising sites on the list as well as looking at some of the winners.
Of course, Amazon, Reddit, and CZcams come up, as do dictionary sites, Etsy, and Quora.
Moving on, they share an article on HouseFresh shorturl.at/dBOW9 about how it no longer appears in Google Search and how Google is killing independent review websites.
They show the article’s graph, which reflects a giant 91% decline in traffic, and discuss interesting topics it covers, such as the rise of Forbes in Search and keyword swarming.
Spencer and Jared then share a public plea from Marie Haynes shorturl.at/gsCH0 for Google to help publishers hit by the update.
As for their Shiny Object Shenanigans, Spencer talks briefly about his Amazon Influencer Program side hustle.
He shares his earnings for the last 30 days and talks about his future plans for it. Although this project provides passive income, Spencer actually gave a highly detailed presentation as part of his Niche Pursuits Community community.nichepursuits.com/ program where he talked about all the work that went into the side hustle in the beginning.
Jared then goes on to talk about his Amazon Influencer side hustle, talking about the new videos he’s uploaded in 2024 and his total earnings for March and April.
He also talks about his most recent newsletters side hustle, which of the 2 is getting the most traction, his Facebook page lead generation strategy, and his current number of email subscribers.
As for their Weird Niche Sites, Spencer goes first with Secret Fan Base www.secretfanbase.com/banana/, which takes a closer look at the story and clothes from well-known brand Banana Republic.
As the clothes are now more mainstream and mass produced, the site covers its original safari style and is created by a group of original fans.
Although it doesn’t get a ton of traffic, the site has a unique story and is a true labor of love.
Jared shares his site, Passport Waiting Time www.passportwaitingtime.com/, and shares some of the site’s interesting aspects, like a forum.

Gotta go back to a job for a few years then rebuild
You're not alone. I quit my job back in 2021 after building stuff up since 2018. Enjoyed it for a couple years but I lost 50% of my traffic in the March 2023 update, then got hit by the HCU in September, and then again this year. I'm down 90%+ from where I was in February 2023. Only CZcams and Amazon Influencers has allowed me to go this long without going back to a job, but the writing is on the wall.
@@JoeMac1983i am starting my Amazon influencer journey this weekend. Can you still make money with it?
This can only be a final grab for cash before SGE or open ai change the search forever.
If they have amped up user engagement as a ranking factor then it would make sense that the adult websites saw massive gains
....one of the most disappointing aspects of these updates is the lack of hope for recovery, even if users do find your site, stay on site, read multiple content and generate good site metrics. 😞 Gaz.
HMRC probably got gains cos it's the end of the Tax Year in UK
I still don't understand why the adult sites are the winners. Maybe because they put a lot of people photos and videos? Google is weird.
What are the biggest factors to consider when trying to rank after this update especially for affiliate sites not in the ymyl niches
I don’t know but I have a feeling that it’s looking for uniqueness more than ever. It’s looking for content that’s written by someone that has first hand experience in a particular subject.
As I say, just an educated guess
Wait adults sites had some of the biggest winners and healthsite like Mayo Clinic saw a loss? Lol
I feel you're reading the big winners wrong. It's tax season and exam season, which is why HMRC and SaveMyExams are rising. Nothing to do with the Google update.
31:54 - google is such an a$$hole these days man
Thank God no more affialate spams, their only intent is to sell you crap
Are you getting more value from Reddit random content as compared to an affiliate site that has aggregate information from varied places including Reddit and package it into a blog post?
@@Best_game59 He is clearly a troll ... don't worry about him
Yeah, now it's just Google trying to sell you crap on their search results page. You think that's better?
@@artemike agreed. this imbecile has been posting the same comment on different channels which covers the same topic.
@@Best_game59when it comes to product reviews - yes!
I personally don't search on google for product reviews, as I know the first page is generally filled with affiliates who have zero real experience with the product (basically ads).
I got to facebook groups or reddit for real recommendations from real people.
