Your first ride along video got me more excited about the job and it is now what I plan to pursue as a career. I've even since been on 2 real ride alongs in a nearby city to where I live. Those ride alongs were the 2 most fun nights of my life. Hello! Glad to meet you as well. You met “Mrs JP” also. Thank you for your support! We do have a ride along program. You’ll need to come get some paperwork from the office during normal business hours. It’s simple liability waivers and background check things. Also, you can consider applying for a dispatch position prior to being 21 in Louisiana. I’m not sure if our department has a policy which makes it 21 regardless, but it’s a suggestion to get your foot in the door.

Hello! I plan to join the Navy as a Master at Arms with a focus on military police, I'm curious if Louisiana offers a direct transition from military police to civilian police without going through the full police academy. I'm trying to debate whether or not to make the military a career or if I should try civilian Law Enforcement once I get out of the military. Thank you for what you do and stay safe!
That’s a great question that I’ve never needed to know the answer to😅. I will try and find you an answer though. For now though, plan on going through the full academy if you want to be a civilian cop, even if you were an MP. And honestly that would be smart anyway. There are a lot of state specific laws and other nuances that you’ll need to know about which you won’t get from the military. It’s a very different world from what I’ve been told by MPs who became cops. It’s only about three and a half months here in Louisiana. It’ll be over before you know it, and you’ll be a much better cop for having been through it. If you’re not required to attend the entire academy, you will be required to attend the firearms and legal portions for sure.
Also, one last question. Is the academy conducted at one big facility with people from all over the state or are there smaller academies that are like branches of training facilities in different locations of the state?@@justapatrolman4246
Obviously it’s more efficient to know your city. But it’s impossible to know every single street and address. I use my phone pretty often for that purpose. I usually know generally where I’m going, but I may not know where a specific address is. A lot of times I’ll use my phone even if I know generally where I’m going so I don’t pass the address or something. Helps on hot calls where speed is key.
Awesome. Keep them coming. I'm thinking about getting into law enforcement. What are some good reasons to become an leo? Do you think you can make a good career out of it?
Thank you! I would see about a few ride alongs (preferably with a busy department) before jumping in if you’re not sure. If you get into it and decide it’s not for you, that’s perfectly ok. There are no good reasons to become a LEO. The pay isn’t super high, a lot of people hate you, it causes stress at home, you work weird hours, you’ll find you have differences with people you know…. The only reason you should get into LE is if you discover you have a real calling for it. Otherwise it can be a terrible job. Ok, now to really answer your question😜 You’ll make great friends, you’ll learn communication skills, you’ll get training on things like conflict de-escalation which can help you in the rest of life. There’s always overtime to be had if you want the extra money (I’m off literally half the days of the year, so there’s time for extra money). You’ll get to do something different every time you come to work as opposed to sitting at a desk sending emails and typing all day. You get to play with cool equipment. I could keep going on. There are a lot of good reasons to get into this field. If you genuinely love the job, have the drive, and set reasonable goals for life, then yes…you can make a good career out of it.
Thank you! That helps! Great feedback! I job shadowed an investigator. I really liked it. I plan to do a ride along with that department and a couple others in the spring.
@Isaiah-pv3cr awesome. Let me know how things end up for you. Obviously you’ll want to focus your opinion of patrol since that’s where you’ll be for the first few years of your career
I will. Thank you for it all. My county has a population of 80,000 and our area (includes the two cities within our jurisdiction) is 115,000. The investigator I shadowed said he will put me on a busy shift in the spring since that's when it's really busy around here. Our departments are decently large and are really busy departments because we are the intersection of 2 major interstates on the East coast. I'll ask any more questions if I have them. You are a great resource. Praying you stay safe out there. God bless. I'm a sophomore in high school so I have some time, but I liked what I seen shadowing.
I'm just going to do what the LORD wants. My top 2 options are a cop and engineer, but I liked shadowing the investigator more than engineer. We'll see.
Hello. I recently applied for a local police department and I passed the first segment but I am still on-hold for the next review. (Two reviews of the application, and some others for the background) I was told that I wrote a lot for the responses, but there was more quantity over quality. If my application here doesn't get accepted I plan on trying state police. Any suggestions?
Well I can only speak for Louisiana. Our state police require prior patrol experience AND/OR a college degree. So you’d have to have one of those before even being considered. If it’s similar in your state, I would try other local departments. You don’t have to work where you live. Be careful with sheriffs offices though. You may end up working in a jail. If your state police doesn’t have those requirements, then by all means go for it. I will say that as a trooper you’re going to be working a ton of traffic related stuff and not a lot of other types of things.
I enjoyed your video but would have enjoyed it more if you would have explained more of what you were doing at the time. Also, I never saw you with your seat belt on, why ? (Maybe I missed something)
I’ll keep that in mind if I do another similar video. Thanks for the watch, and I’m glad you liked it. I usually don’t wear a seatbelt for the simple reason it tends to snag on equipment. I’ve lost a magazine and broken a taser holster getting out of my car. I will put it on if I’m going to a hot call or during a pursuit
I’m 16 and have been fascinated in Law Enforcement since I was about 7 or 8? I can’t remember but I’m looking at it as a career option but my parents are telling me not to do it. It’s something I really wanna pursue so do you have any advice?
Yep! If you don’t try it out for yourself you’ll regret it. Not because it’s the best career on the planet, but because you will have denied yourself because of someone else’s opinion. You can always decide it’s not for you once you’ve tried it. But if you don’t try, you’ll take that decision away from yourself. Does that make sense?

You’re like the fiftybazzillionth person to make this comment. The thing is that I’ve broken a taser holster and lost a magazine on two separate occasions when getting out of my unit. HOWEVER, I don’t make traffic stops for seatbelt violations…if that makes you hate me any less lol
moonlighting while stealing tax payer money. somebody should report a complaint against this copper so they get disciplined for working on CZcams videos while on a public service job on duty in uniform.
Definitely not stealing anything. I’m also not moonlighting since I’m not monetized. Nor am I working on CZcams videos while at work. That gets done when I’m home and it’s safe to sit and edit. I’m on camera 100% of the time I’m working in one way or another (dash cam, body cam, body mic for the dash cam, other officers dash cams, other officers body cams, other officers body mics, CCTV/security cameras, phone cameras……). Heaven forbid I hit the record button on a camera🤣 I’m curious about something. What is it that you do for a living? You seem to have nothing but free time to be a troll in my comments section on nearly every video I upload. I do appreciate the help though. You’re single handedly turning the YT algorithm in my favor
@iamchicagoan2422 I have no idea what yall are talking about lol! It’s probably my mustache tickling my bottom lip. I’ve since cut it so it doesn’t do that.
You said your laptop of built into vehicle, I’ve noticed police in my area sometimes take their laptops out of the car to write reports in the station or at a cafe, etc. does that stop you from doing that?
Yes and no. I obviously cannot take my vehicle dashboard apart and get the computer out. But I can use one of the many computers in the office to write a report if I would prefer to do it there. Good question

You’re like the fiftybazzillionth person to make this comment. The thing is that I’ve broken a taser holster and lost a magazine on two separate occasions when getting out of my unit. HOWEVER, I don’t make traffic stops for seatbelt violations…if that makes you hate me any less lol
paranoid douchebag just can't control his ADHD enough to not be distracted by customers parking in a parking spot
They weren’t parking. They were stopping in the middle of traffic. And I’m offended now because you misdiagnosed me😂. It’s not ADHD, but keep trying.
I HOPE NEXT TIME YOU DECIDE TO VLOG THAT YOU WEAR YOUR SEATBELT!!!!!
Hahaha!!! That would be counterproductive since I’m currently vlogging that I DONT wear a seatbelt (and why)

moonlighting while stealing tax payer money. somebody should report a complaint against this copper so they get disciplined for working on CZcams videos while on a public service job on duty in uniform.
Heaven forbid I hit the record button on a camera🤣
I’m curious about something. What is it that you do for a living? You seem to have nothing but free time to be a troll in my comments section on nearly every video I upload. I do appreciate the help though. You’re single handedly turning the YT algorithm in my favor
is this guy on drugs?? why can't he control his jaw from grinding??
He playing with his mustache 🤦
@@chriscrown4961 I think he playing with nose candy
@iamchicagoan2422 I have no idea what yall are talking about lol! It’s probably my mustache tickling my bottom lip. I’ve since cut it so it doesn’t do that.
No, I’m not on drugs. Pretty sure the drug tests would have taken care of that a long time ago lol!
Where is your body camera?
Center of my chest lol
That’s called a mic that’s definitely not a body camera
Oh! This was literally a year ago. I used to wear it on my belt. I have since moved it to my vest
When you going to make another video, miss your videos
Soon I’m hoping. Got a lot going on in life right now. Thanks for sticking with me
