    Nice video. This is honestly the kind of stuff I wished was covered more or at least explained in a simple way that anyone could easily understand. I'm not going to look forward to writing reports when the time comes for me to patrol the streets, but knowing that the report means the difference between sending a felon I just arrested to prison or walking scot-free, I don't plan on cutting any corners

Every time I’m riding my bike around my town and I see a cop sitting in a parking lot I usually stop and say hi and if they have time for a quick chat I usually chat for a few mins with them then thank them for their service and keep on riding. And when I’m at an amusement park I always talk to the cops as I see them through the day if their not busy. Trying to get one to go on a roller coaster with me 😂. Take care love the vids

    Hey officer! My name is Anthony I live in New York, and I need some legal advice:
    A former coworker names Sydney who I thought was a cool person at work decided to file a police report against me just for calling a few times to try to see how’s she’s doing, and she told the police it was “harassment” the crazy thing is that she never answered these calls, or even called me back to see how I was doing or anything like that. My intent was never to bother her or harass her, but to try to reach out after 2 years of not hearing from her, and then all of a sudden she does a low blow and filed a police report.
    Now an officer did call me to talk about this police report she filed, and says that I can no longer contact her thru phone or social media etc and if I do, I will be arrested.
    Does this mean that I also cannot contact her parents to try to resolve this, or just her in general? And if I ever do contact her, which I won’t, will I actually get arrested, or is this sort of a scare tactic? And is there a way that I can contact her parents thru Facebook to try to say this was a big misunderstanding or could this land me into more trouble?
    And also one more thing, will this police report affect my record in any way shape or form at all? I asked the police this, and they said no that it’s only for their records, I’m not being charged with anything since there’s no crime being committed, and it’s not public either so it’s not online or published anywhere, just the police have it, but I’m worried that this can have an effect on me if I ever look for another job, and I feel that this girl did this on purpose to try to mess up my record and my life somehow. I need some legal advice here because I’m worried this can have an effect on my record. Thank you

    • @justapatrolman4246
      @justapatrolman4246  Před 10 měsíci +5

      Ok…before I answer, I need to tell you that I am NOT a lawyer and cannot give you legal advice. I can, however, give you my opinion. If I were in your shoes, I would no longer associate with this person in any way. Forget you ever knew her. She obviously does not want to associate with you, for whatever reason. Contacting her parents in any way can result in them filing the same police report. No, this will not be on your record unless you’re actually charged with a crime. So by not having contact with her or her family in any way, you are insuring that you will not be charged. Make sense?

He has my phones monitored and stalks/harrases/cheats&steals and completely abuses his position. How do i make him accountable. I believe he uses his immunity to get away with murder literally. My question is how do you describe probable cause to believe someone is under the influence of drugs or mentally unstable? “He appeared to be under the influence of possible street drugs or possibly mentality unstable due to the bizarre statements he was making and his eyes being bloodshot”. Am I on the right track? Any tips. Thanks in advance

    • @justapatrolman4246
      @justapatrolman4246  Před 8 měsíci

      “I observed that his eyes were red and unfocused. I observed the odor associated with an alcoholic beverage coming from his mouth, which became stronger as he spoke. I observed that he had trouble keeping his balance, and I asked him to lean on the hood of my vehicle while we spoke to avoid him falling. Things like that for alcohol. Obviously, if you don’t observe one of these, then don’t put that you did observe it in your report. Street drugs would have similar wording, but the symptoms you observe may be different. Genuine mental illness that is not drug induced is completely different, at least to me. Generally, you can tell when someone is suffering from a mental illness rather than a drug or alcohol issue. They’re usually more calm and coherent towards you. They can usually hold a conversation with you, whether it makes sense to you or not, whereas a drunk cannot.
      Basically you need to be more specific than the example you gave. But you are on the right track. If he made strange statements, write those statements in your report. If he was so hyper he couldn’t stay focused on anything, and he had needle marks on his arm, and he was sweating a gallon an hour, write those three things down. “The combination of these symptoms led me to believe that so and so may by under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. I contacted the ambulance service in order to insure that so and so was not experiencing a medical or mental emergency prior to placing him under arrest”. Remember, you’re not a medical professional as a cop. But the ambulance guys are. They can determine if someone needs to go to the hospital, even for mental issues. I hope this helps. If not, let me know and I’ll try again😅

    Would it be safe to assume that a trooper who writes in his report that, while searching an individual, he found a gun and the individual stated "i pulled that out of my waistband and put it in my jacket, before you got here", but his dashcam shows his supporting officer, searching the individuals vehicle and removing said handgun...that, the arrestinf officer is intentionally commiting a crime in the effort to create additional charges and paint a false narrative for a prosecutor/judge/jury to follow?

    how many reports on average will an officer have to write in one shift and how long are the reports usually.

    • @justapatrolman4246
      @justapatrolman4246  Před 8 měsíci

      Unfortunately the number of reports completely depends on where you work. I’ve been at places where I average three reports a week. Where I am now I average that in a single shift. Officers in larger cities can average 10+ per shift. This does not include crash reports. The length of the reports depends on the incident you’re writing about. I have some reports where the complainant just wants documentation that they lost their wallet, for example. That kind of report can be a few lines long. On burglary, shooting, organized crime reports, for example, they can be up to several pages. It depends on the evidence you collected, people you spoke to, arrests made…the list goes on. I wish I could give you a more definite answer!

      im in the hiring process with Orlando PD in Florida so I'm probably looking at the 3 per shift range. I'm the type of person who's very good writing and hate doing it and would like to be on the streets being proactive. I just hate the idea of being bogged down with stuff to write for the least couple hours of a shift. I also like action and I imagine action comes with a lot of reports so I guess you cant have your cake and eat it too@@justapatrolman4246

      Well the good news is that you have at least three to six years (depending on jurisdiction requirements) to learn and gather information. That’s a very broad question honestly. It would help if you could narrow it down. For now, I’ll say this: it’s not like Live PD or the movies, in that there’s not always something fun or interesting going on. There are slow shifts where there is radio silence. This varies depending on where you work. And when something interesting does happen, it generally leaves you with varying amounts of paperwork after it’s over. Interesting things can also cause you to have to appear in court to testify. There are also things that generally are not shown on tv, or if they are, they’re blurred out. Prepare yourself to see blood, body parts, people who are having severe medical/mental emergencies…these things WILL affect you to some degree, and you cannot unsee them. You won’t truly know how you’ll react until you’re there. But the more you can mentally prepare yourself for that, the better you’ll do when you get there. Feel free to ask more questions…that’s why I’m here

      @jamiebaincqurz good question. The rule of thumb to stick to is to use the minimum amount of force necessary to achieve a legal and moral goal. Keep in mind that the decisions you make, the tools you use, and the force you use will be judged in court by people who have never been cops in their lives. Would they rather see a cop use a weapon or their hands? Would they rather see a cop use their words or force? Would they rather see a cop move up the use of force continuum (I.e. go from words to hands to tools when each method fails) or go straight to a weapon? Whatever you do, make sure you go home safely and you stay within the confines of the law and your morals. Does that answer your question?

      If it’s a minor complaint, you should ask for a patrol supervisor. If it’s something serious then you should ask for internal affairs. Start by contacting the phone number for whatever department it is (not 911). They will get you to the correct person after gathering some general info about why you’re calling. Hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    What's your take when an ATF comes to you to help with a non warrent attempt at doing what the ATF does? That's probably never happened. But let's lay out an example a brand new rule passes with ATF and thousands of law abiding citizens are now labeled felons until they prove otherwise.
    What would you do as a reasonable police officer when ATF tells you "Jimmy" a law abiding citizen owns a pistol brace that's now illegal? Yet only illegal according to atf? Or any other blanket example of gun law changes? Would you help the ATF to enforce these clearly unconstitutional laws (or rules or policies) If so explaine why?
    Let's put it this way even simpler if the feds ban any magazines over 10 rounds would you help the ATF to inforce these rules.

      I am a firm believer in the second amendment. I do not support any law which restricts your right to bear arms (or accessories to those arms). First, I don’t believe my chief would enforce something like that. Second, if he did, I would quit my job and become a felon myself before I would take anyone to jail for an unconstitutional law. I’m not risking my life to take guns away from you.

    Personal experience, listen man. Boyfriends and girlfriends argue and make up back up all the time. Females where I’m from, start the attack and the police usually arrive to the man defending himself. Police literally pulls up to hear “Oh he put his hands on me”, then to jail you go. It shouldn’t be that way. If you are coming to arrest someone, always lock both parties up, yea no one wants to go to jail. But I would feel more satisfied if both of us was going so that both sides understand how foolish they were. 9/10 the girl regrets getting their significant other locked up afterwards, now you stuck in jail with a no bail, possibly losing your job, your car, your whole life thrown away. Now your relationship is in the trash bcuz why would I want to get back with someone who cost me to lose everything.

    A truck backed into my car when I had my husband had his foot on the brakes. This took place in wells fargo parking lot. My head light is broken and no damages on his car. On the accident report it stated that both vehicles were in motion. I tried to get the accident report amended but the police officer still made it look like I was at fault. I then asked the police officer could she obtain the footage at the bank but she stated that since there was no medical injuries it would be a discretion. I really don't want to pay for what the other party did to my car. I feel the only way I can prove that I am in the right is if I can obtain the footage at Wells Fargo but she refuses to do get the footage due to no medical injures. Do you have any advice?

      @justapatrolman4246  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes I would talk to an attorney. Most consultations are free of charge. The attorney can go through the proper channels to obtain the footage. If there was any wrong doing on the officers part then the attorney can deal with that as well. You can also try simply asking the bank if they can provide you with the footage. Tell them you need it for your police report

      Thanks for your response. I did notify the bank and the bank said the officer would have to obtain the footage. Although the officer is deliberately making it difficult for me, I did however go over her head and talked to her sergeant. He stated that he would talk her to see if she can get the footage. I also reached out to my insurance company and they stated the only way that they can obtain the footage is if I file the claim through my insurance. @@justapatrolman4246

    Oh. That's wonderful. No wonder I can't get anywhere. After a lifetime of abuse, I rarely cry, because I know it's not my behavior. I'm more afraid of an official not listening or caring as usual.
    Do you want to know why I don't trust my own people? 🤔 Maybe it was that poorly written police report regarding the incident where someone tried to blow up my car with me and my kids in it. I had a no contact domestic violence order at the time. He wasn't even questioned or considered a suspect, even though he admitted to being at that place at the same time that day. It's been almost 25 years and he is still abusing me and my kids. And nobody cares, so I had to be moved 2200 miles from my kids, because the situation escalated to a person asking if they should shoot me. Because I don't do drugs and I don't want them in my house or around my kids.
    You know what is great about that? I was going to be a law enforcement officer. I was offered the position 2 years before this happened. Now I have people who don't do drugs that hate me and people who do drugs that hate me! I'm the bad guy for not only telling the police, but also when I call them on things like not writing a report or following up on one.

      @quinceynelson8946 are you able to picture the events in your head and replay them? If so, all you need to do is “tell a story” about it. Just type out what happened as it plays in your mind. Even better if you have body camera footage you can review. This is not a high school paper with a minimum word count or minimum number of paragraphs required. And you don’t have to add fluff to it just to make it sound good. It literally just needs to be your account of what occurred. “I got to the scene and the first person I contacted was so and so”. Write that down. “So and so told me this”. Write it down. What did you do after you talked to that person? Write it down. Keep doing it like that in small chunks until you get to the end of the event. Make sense?
