      Bathrooms and Piping are one of the most complicated construction structures even in a modern building(other rooms are usually planned around plumbing)… Often, they are completely overlooked unless they need to be used, and those who do; are only allowed to use half of them… So, they tend to have a mysterious nature to them, an unknown aura, or black spot in a mental palace…
      Social norms and secret societies are magical in mental experience… a secret bar or club that none but members are allowed entrance, access to tech from other countries; all seems magical in a sense, and mirrors portions of these books… when you attend a high-end boarding school, world trotting wealth enabled students have access to both, and they can seem magical…

    George is pretty consistently the nicer twin (helping a first year he'd never met, going with Ginny to hug Molly when Arthur is injured, readily giving up their room for Remus and offering him food).
    And Fred always seems like the instigator when they make jokes and tease others. Which is probably why their moniker is always "Fred and George". Fred appears to be the alpha twin when they're together

    • @andreanewell628
      @andreanewell628 Před 5 měsíci +2

      I’m so glad to have someone confirm those observations. It was rather important to me that the twins not be indistinguishable, so I looked for any differences I could find. But I was never confident that my hypotheses about their differing personalities were correct and consistent.
      That you identified some of the same individual traits is reassuring.
      For me I had a dread from early in the series that Rowling would wind up killing one of them off. And I knew that a death or few might be necessary to make the stakes meaningful. But I was seriously irked by the possibility that one of my favorite authors would give us a pair so that she could essentially “kill the spare” and still have one left over, with no rhyme or reason as to which was killed. It seemed a cheap ploy to me.
      But by the time Fred actually was killed off (and even before George lost his ear) I was discerning similar patterns in the behavior of the two which eased my mind. Mostly.

    Regarding Scabbers first coming to Percy, I imagine that Pettigrew sought out the Weasley household as a source of info and then began begging for scraps and comfort. Percy would have been wanting a pet as a status symbol when he was 10 (prior to beginning at Hogwarts), so he would not be singled out as the kid whose parents could not afford to buy him one, and I can see Molly deciding - to Percy's dismay - that the rat who was always hanging around the garden begging for food would serve well enough in a pinch and finding that Scabbers seemed to relax into domestication surprisingly readily once he was officially brought in. Now, Percy would have been much too young to have gotten Scabbers immediately after he went on the run. That tells me that Peter must have been begging & spying at different places for a handful of years before deciding that Voldemort really was not coming back, and finally breaking down and resigning himself to permament life as a rat in a wizarding household.

    LETS GO SWEDEN!!!!
    Speaking of Sweden, and translations (as you mentioned the Trevor being a Turtle in Spain), in Sweden there is no word for grandmother that means any of your grandmothers, like in English. We have two different words depending if it's your paternal or maternal grandmother (or grandfather), and since we don't find out until book 5 that Augusta is Frank's mother, the translator had to guess which grandmother it was and guessed wrong. It has since been corrected, but if you have early print runs off any of the first 4 books in Swedish (I have all of them, so I've double checked), it will say that Neville lives with his maternal grandmother.

    I read a theory once that Molly had noticed Harry struggling but rather than call him out to ask if he needed help she started talking loudly the key words that Harry would recognize if he were a wizard and that’s why she immediately starts talking to him about being a first year and welcomes him in.

    I've always assumed Charlie got the wand as a hand-me-down, and then bought his own wand after graduation. That would make sense because it seems like the wand would have to be multiple generations old for the unicorn hair to be sticking out.

    • @Blixthand
      @Blixthand Před 8 měsíci +4

      That has also been my assumption, but also Olivander says to Harry he remembers when Lilly bought her first wand, as if it's common for people to go through several of them, and during the Triwizard they have to have their wands checked that they are in good enough condition, and sure that is a safety feature, but realistically neither of their wands would have been in use more than 6 years, and still they need to be checked. Also kinda sad if the Wealseys couldn't even afford a new wand for their second child. I understand when you are sending 4 or 5 kids each year to school that resources are scarce, but they couldn't afford their second kid a brand new wand?

      @Blixthand Před 7 měsíci

      @@kvm6 I’ve never read it as if he’s deliberately being underpaid, even if they do mention once or twice that Fudge don’t like him being so close to Dumbledore or his muggle mania. I just assumed it was that the department itself wasn’t taken very seriously. There is still 2 people working there too, so what is Perkins supposed to have done to also get the short end of that stick? Also, while he’s not being paid a lot, he clearly makes enough to provide for a family of up to 9 all by himself, as we never see Molly working. If I had 7 kids I’d have to shop second hand as well, but something so crucial as a wand I’d do my best to make sure they got new ones that actually paired with them, and especially for the first couple that doesn’t seem impossible, if he can afford equipment for up to 5 kids at once to go to school, he should have been able to provide his second son with his personal wand when he only had to equip 2 kids for school, and if that truly was Charlie’s wand that chose him, it seems unlikely he would give it away.

      And by the time Ron goes to Hogwarts there's two more people that earn money, though they do live in Egypt and Romania respectively.
      Charlie didn't get a hand me down wand, but since we know that he was friend with Hagrid too maybe they had adventures in Forbidden Forest.

    • @Blixthand
      @Blixthand Před 7 měsíci

      @@kvm6 For all the times I've read Harry Potter I've never caught that Perkins is supposed to be interested in Mrs. Figg in any way, except that his tent is supposed to smell similar to her home, which is a bit of s stretch for me, but maybe I'm forgetting something. But I still think it's a bit of stretch that he is being punished for that, remember at Harry's hearing in book 5 the ministry has no idea who Mrs. Figg is or that she lived close to Harry, so it seems odd that they would know she's the potential love interest of one of their lesser co-workers. Perkins worked at that department way before Order.
      As for Bill and Charlie, they being grown up and not living at home will of course lighten the load a bit as far as expenses goes, but I'm not sure they would poll a lot of their money with their parents, or that Molly and Arthur would even let them give them any money.
      And I'm not sure I understand how Charlie possibly being on some adventure with Hagrid has anything to do with his wand. If the wand was somehow damaged, it wouldn't be safe to hand to Ron at all, and I don't see that either Charlie or Hagrid would know enough about wand making to go pick up materials and just make one.

    After knowing my roommate for a few years, I can see how Ron could have fallen by the wayside a bit but still heartily defend Molly. She's the exact middle of nine. The sister directly under her was given preferential treatment because she never felt like she belonged. So the mother went out of her way to make her comfortable. My roommate, as a result, would end up with the leftovers. For example: the sister would get a nice gift from a trip the parents went on while my roommate got the complimentary souvenir cup.
    Yet, with this treatment, my roommate still defends her mother because that's her way of getting the validation and attention she craved from being partially neglected. Ron being the son right above the daughter she always wanted and not getting an extra luxury like being a twin falls into a very similar situation as my roommate

Scabbards was there, of course, trying to collect wizard news, so obviously he would be happy for Percy to take him in. And it doesn’t seem weird that Percy would want a pet rat at all. Rats are one of the smartest animals out there and can be trained more impressive leaving most dogs. I bet Percy got stabbers, thinking it would be a fun educational thing to train a rat, Peter probably tried for a little bit which excited Percy, because he thought his rat was exceptionally smart, but, knowing Peter Pettigrew, he probably gave up on trying to impress Percy pretty quickly at which point Percy probably lost interest. Then Percy gets his owl for becoming prefect and figures why not give my old rat to Ron who is already feeling nervous

Charlie used that wand throughout his seven years at school, then got a job, saved up some money and got a wand of his own. Thinking that old Bilius' wand might be better suited to the brother named after that uncle, he gave it to Ron.
