      There are no animals like monkeys in Australia. Australia has mostly small animals. No big cats, no big K9s, no primates. The biggest land predator in Australia is the dingo. Australia naturally does not even have foxes or coyotes. Australia is pretty unexciting in terms of wildlife. In reality North and South America is where wildlife is exciting.. North America alone has the largest land predators, has more wildcats than the rest of the world combined, has the 3rd and 4th largest wildcats on the planet, which are the jaguar and cougar, the cougar which has the largest range of all predators on the planet. The wildlife in North and South America is crazier than the rest of the world. North and South America also has way more monkeys. Monkeys in the Americas are called new world monkeys. and monkeys in Africa and Asia are old world monkeys. There are more species of new world monkeys. New world monkeys are smaller. live in trees, can use their tails for holding things, have nostrils that point left and right, and are way smarter than old world monkeys. Old world monkeys have nostrils that point forward or downwards, their tails are only for balance, and some have very small tails, usually do not live in trees, are bigger than new world monkeys, not nearly as smart ass new world monkeys. New world monkeys are so smart they make and use tools. Yes righht here in North America we have the most monkeys, most big cats,, largest land predators etc. No place on Earth has the wildlife you can find in North America. Damn sure not Australia. You will find zero monkeys in Australia, zero bears, zero wildcats, and their biggest land predator weighs less than 50lbs.

    Shortly after moving to South Georgia I saw a dead monkey on the road who had obviously been hit by a vehicle, needless to say I couldn’t believe my eyes. I asked a long time resident if there were wild monkeys in the area and she said that it was possible because many years ago the Tarzan movies were filmed in central Florida and that when they finished filming the animals were just released in the area. I don’t know if it’s true but it doesn’t seem to be out of the realm of possibilities. Has anyone else heard this?

    • @williamstamper442
      @williamstamper442 Před měsícem +10

      I heard there is an island off the coast of Georgia which is privately owned and has a rather large troop of rhesus macaques there for 70+ years, possibly longer than that. Since it's privately owned the general public is not allowed to go to this island. Monkeys are excellent swimmers so it stands to reason eventually a few will make the rather long swim to the mainland. My guess that's what happened with the one you saw dead on the road. The Florida monkeys are a similar story but I do not believe the one you saw came from that far away.

There’s a population of them in Central Florida that’s been there, according to the boat guide, for decades. But I agree with the other comment that’s it’s possible your sighted monkey came from closer. So far it seems the Fl monkeys are still central, so maybe they hadn’t really reached Georgia yet. Not as unusual as you might think: there are at least 3 species of monkeys with established breeding populations living in Florida, all introduced some time ago. New construction/deforestation/development could've disrupted a few of them and then they wander around trying to figure out a new home.

    The exotic pet trade is huge in the United States. Imagine how many of those animals get released on purpose or escape and never get reported. Anytime I hear about people seeing hyenas or big cats my immediate thought is they probably did see what they say they did. If a man in New York city can have a pet tiger in his apartment for years then seeing them in the wild where they shouldn't be wouldn't surprise me either.
