    Jason Isbell: yes! Great album. Not one you usually hear ppl mention. Not always my go-to bcs it's kinda dark and serious. Elephant. What can I say. Such an emotional song.

    I’ve watched about 30 of these “10 records I’ve Listened to Most” videos the past couple of weeks, and with an exception of the Zeppelin pick and an affinity towards “meddle” from Pink Floyd (high school CD boombox bedroom sessions at 3:00 am), your picks most closely align with my taste. Nice descriptions of all of the records, by the way!

  • @stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147

    Nice mix of old and new music which is important. You covered a lot of decades instead of getting stuck in just one or two decades. I have been thinking about this also. Just have to get around to it

    Some great choices here, Todd. A couple of these are among my favorite albums. Waits and Isbell. As much as I love Jason Isbell, I never have considered him "go to." I just really binge his albums when inspired. The National and GBV could have very well been in my list. We share one album on our list. Posting my video soon. Glad you jumped on this thread.

    Hi 👋 You mentioned the Pixies and their classic album Doolittle from 1989 , I had that on vinyl that year . I like their music and that album of theirs is their best. I played it alot back then. I had the pleasure of seeing Nick Cave when he fronted the Birthday Party in concert in 1982 here in New Zealand where i live. Great gig and he's an amazing singer and songwriter. I like Tom Waits too, i think his album Blue Valentine is my favorite. I'm into Jazz music and enjoy listening to John Coltrane. I saw Miles Davis in concert in the 1980s, and it was around the time of his Tutu album release. His back up band were very funky. Good top 10.

    Great selections. I didn't have a GBV record on my list, despite my love for the band. Alien Lanes is so awesome. I guess because they put out so much music, I haven't been able to focus on any specific album over the last few years. I almost feel like abandoning my quest to stay current with them, and just stay with the 90s when I fell in love with the band initially.

    • @lostmixtapes
      @lostmixtapes  Před rokem

      Their new one is good. But so was the one before the last one, and the first one of 2021…and on and on. But none of them have much staying power for me. Great band, great lineup, but too factory like with the recordings, although the new one is more organic. I’ll always like the 90s and early 2000s eras the best. They should take two years off making records. Then Pollard can look back at all the songs that he wrote during that time and pick from them to put out a solid 10 song record. Never gonna happen though.

    Am with you on the Dexter Gordon album - phenomenal, first note to last. So odd, it barely ever got referred to for decades until the recent Tone Poet release, which I could never fathom when so many other excellent BN's were higher profile. Picked up a Direct Metal Mastering copy in the mid eighties in Hull UK, which still sounds good in comparison. Ps. Have a real soft spot for Houses Of The Holy too. Thanks for the posting.

    If On the Beach is your favorite NY album, you should be aware that he originally planned for side one to be side two, and vice versa but, was swayed at the last moment by David Briggs. Young has gone on record stating that in retrospect, he has always regretted switching the two sides. Therefore, whenever I listen to this record, for years, I always start it off with side two. Know what? It’s an even better album when experienced from this perspective. Try it.

    Hi Todd enjoyed the reasoning for your choices I saw Chris video before anyone responded and thought nice idea . Once Norman did a response I thought other people would be encouraged to jump in which is good . I like the national and that album has some great songs on it but as you mentioned it’s full of guest female Vocals. I saw them perform it live and it didn’t quite work for me they were far better in 2013 .. if I do this it will be mostly uk .. great response 👍

    I like most of the National records a lot. I Am Easy to Find is excellent. I don’t understand why fans criticize albums that don’t give them what they expect. Let people be creative: it doesn’t always work out, but isn’t this how “beautiful surprises/masterpieces” happen?
