The majority of Wellington gravel in the city is essentially single track mountain biking. If you’re doing the remutaka cycle trail this is pretty easy gravel for the most part (apart from some coast sections which require walking). I’d say most people opt for 45mm tires for their gravel bikes locally

I think you’d struggle to ride the very soft stuff on a MTB too tbh. It’s a great loop for a sense of adventure though!
