We should be happy that Steve plays this songs. He is the only genesis man touring and playing this great songs!
Great observation man, it is a whole true, unfortunately. It is a fact that Phill seems seriously hitted by pain in their bones and specially their vertebrae, so the rest of the guys in the band remaining are not willing to replace him by another sad experiment like is was Ray Wilson, hence they remain stuck and tied for go to touring anywhere as Genesis. And Peter, well, he is totally out from Genesis issues by own definition long time ago.
@@karakorum2007 They (Mike, Tony, Phil) have been trying to live down these songs since the early 80s when they were still barely 30 years old and completely healthy.
@@jurajkovac9965 Well, not entirely true. Genesis´ classic songs from the 70s are undoubtedly jewels of art, beautiful and perfectly interpreted. They were also the core on which they built their legend. However, there is a fact that is undeniable that the market and the media companies changed in the late 70s, and consolidated in the 80s for a type of music that was simpler and easier to produce. People no longer wanted complicated things and producers didn't want it either, and they promoted mostly disco and punk genres. Everything changed and in fact we have Peter Gabriel in bankruptcy in the early 80s, so much so that his old band mates all came together once for a single recital for coming to his aid. The sophisticated productions of the 70s did not work, that was a fact, against the punk and the "circus rock" mounted by the laboratory bands of the United States mainly, they made things very and complicated for the creators of art. And there we have that not only Tony, Mike and Phil are dedicated to alternative pop, but also Steve and Peter did it in their respective careers. Same for all other Rock Prog "dinosaur" bands: Yes the complete band in a new line up, and some of his members separatedly as soloist or in another bands like Jon (Anderson) and Vangelis, or "the Steves" Howe and Hackett in GTR ... and so on, there are a lot of some other examples. Even Pink Floyd iconic album " The Wall" in 1980 showed more pop rock than his traditional electronic psycodelia . The only difference is the Genesis three survivors did understand that change in the market before than the others. I think there was a time that music was simply awesome and superior in all senses, but that was a simple and superior time indeed, unique and unrepeteable, during the 60s and 70s.
.....and the fact its played and mixed on more modern equipment so sonically sounds superior to the 70's/80's live footage thats available (though I appreciate the original lineup will always have that certain "nostalgia")
" Eleventh Earl Of Mar", one of the best songs on "Wind & Wuthering". Steve, Nad & the band, do an absolute superb version here!! :o) :o)
The Genesis contribution for modern Pop Music is realy a new form of Classic Music. Nothing similar over the times.
Wind and Wuthering is my most loved Album from Genesis ever
not often you see a drummer playing this kind of music with a suit and tie. Might be the most british thing ever.
...and that's a good thing. Yes? Yes!
Drummer Gary O'Toole is a real gentleman !
Gary does a great job here and in the other Genesis songs from Steve´s set...he doesn´t try to replicate Phil´s playing note for note, and it gives the 40 year old songs a fresh sound.
Gary O'Toole is somewhat of a legend. He's marvelous.
@Stefan Sings Swing If your'e talking about guys like Buddy Rich or Louis Bellson, they played completely different style of music. Big Band with lots of solos etc. Apples and Oranges bruh.. btw Gary O'Toole is an outstanding drummer even if prog ain't your thing....
Of course its not EXACTLY the same as played by the genesis line up but its bloody darn close and more importantly true to the spirit of the original. So pleased that Steve is keeping this music alive.
Same here. I went on to Steve's page and saw that he was taking the tour to the US ( I'm in NYC) but unfortunately I missed it .. it was the early part of 2018 ... If he's back this way in teh future I will definitely see him. Saw Genesis in 2007. they were fantastic but I don't see any tour announcements in the future, sad to say.
@@2008alde Next trip to the US is in the Spring of 2022.
I had vacation all lined up for April of this year and it got cancelled. For the rest of the old Genesis fans, if you haven't seen Steve's show yet, just go! You will enjoy it. I live in Austin Texas, where he never comes...but I have seen him twice at the Moore theater in Seattle. Great show both times.
@@hvfd5956 Will definitely catch this tour. Steve Hackett maintains both the "exuberance: and musicianship of Genesis, and that's the appeal (that, and the fact that Hackett tix don't cost $350).
those three turkeys that are left could not even play this today. ok phil is not up to it but the other two are too old
@@hvfd5956 yeah. I only learned if this a few weeks ago. I should have heeded your reply so I would have known and planned to see Steve’s performance… I’m pissed that I missed this in 2022, never checked his website because I thought nothing was going to happen for the foreseeable future because of Covid.. now I check his site more often
And while Phi's health sadly fades and has to sit in a chair to sing Illegal Alien, That's All and Invisible Touch; we have Steve Hackett delivering THIS GENESIS MASTERPIECE!!!!
Absolute perfection. What an amazing band Steve has on tour with him. He always does though.*****
5.48 is my favourite bit of Genesis and was what went out of the door when Hackett left
Got to listen to this with headphones to hear the audio shifts from left to right
The vocalist is utterly untrue. An unholy mix between Collins and Gabriel...gets the very best of both of them,
Yeah. Ozzy Osbourne is great.
No, he utterly sucks
So happy Steve is bringing together such great artists and keeping the music of Genesis alive and well!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wind and wuthering is a great album I’ve had it years but just got into it, it’s a slow grower and great, Steve Hackett and Tony banks really shine on it along with the whole group, thumbs up for a great album.
So obvious these guys are having fun and it tells by the quality of the music and singing.
Wow!! Knocked down! Dragged out by this live version! Steve found an incredibly powerful and versatile singer in Nad to pull this off. The band is scary good! People need to be "introduced to" and "reminded of" how good music was in the 1970's. It wasn't all crap.....and bad fashions!
Holy mackerel. Sheer brilliance, gents.
As a woodwind amateur and longtime Genesis fanatic, it's so gratifying to hear Rob Townsend's work in these Steve Hackett concerts. Great addition to this latter-day Genesis.
First Genesis song I ever heard. 40something years ago. That was enough - I was hooked. Still am.
Love the sax players jacket ! Look how happy Steve looks, he loves doing these songs
i was there nad did a great job considering he'd been struggling with a bad cold for a couple of weeks
Insane guitar tone.
Hackett rules!
Tone and sense of melody are what sets Hackett apart.
Outstanding.
11th Earl of Mar WOW!!! It sounds great!
Wind and Wuthering was my introduction to Genesis. Hearing Steve do this number back in 2017 at the NJPAC is one of the best memories I have from him. Bravo Steve!
I saw them in Phoenix Sunday night, and the band was tight and in good spirits. Best song of the night was "Icarus Ascending". Nad was fantastic especially his vocals on Suppers Ready. Great night. Wish I could see the band with the orchestra in the UK later this year.
Sempre ed eternamente eccezionale. Sei un grande Steve!
Sounds great! Gotta pre-order!!
Great tune and amazing playing!
What an amazing version!
GREAT version of this brilliant song
Can't wait for the Montreal show in Feb 2018! ;-) Thanks for sharing
Semplicemente un capolavoro grazie!!!
Great night had by all (I was there) can’t wait until October and do it again
Excellent performance!!
Only recently discovered your music Steve - absolutely amazing musicianship and Nad's vocals fit perfectly 🙂
Me encanta, , muy bueno el cantante, el baterista, que puedo decir, es Genesis !!!!
O M G!!! You are so incredible!!!
I absolutely love how much fun Nick Beggs is having!
Some may find this a bit disturbing but here it goes. I believe that Genesis is a band of distinction as ALL of its members ( and I mean every one in every incarnation of the band) are still alive. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the period when Peter Gabriel was the lead vocalist, the two post Gabriel Genesis albums ( Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering ) are my favorites. These albums got me through hours and hours of college exam studies but other then that, they are just damm good albums.
I was unaware that Steve Hackett is still performing with his "version" of Genesis .. does a pretty fair job of it.
What really amazed me with that band is how they enhance the "acoustic "and quiet parts
It's been a long time since I heard this live. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end!
As for a kid who’s heard this song in the car with my dad, and saw Steve play it, I agree with you.
Son geniales. Una maravilla.
Magnifikkkkkk! Drummer monster!
Gotta catch him again in 2018 !
amazing performance. so impressed at what you have created. as an old genesis fan i am going to try and see one of your shows.
Cette musique est indicible et révolte l'âme dans un état de prière solennelle pour la miséricorde et la tolérance... Elle est sur le point de faire de nous tous un miracle en nous soulevant à la hauteur du sublime. "À la fin est mon commencement"
Classic music
Gracias por subir esta joya 💎
Very well played
Eu gostei muito, bom esse vocalista, se viesse no Brasil com certeza eu iria assistir esse Show.
Nad is just amazing!
Steve 4ever. Period
I love this song progresive rock músic clássic GENESIS
Songwriting at its most technical best !
Some of the films of Steve on CZcams don't have the mix or balance quite right but this is bang on, terrific. I'm so glad that Nad is involved in this too as he brings a real Genesis feel to the proceedings.
Damn good live version!
Phenomenal! Bonnie Prince Charlie & all that... The first song line is the first line of 'Flight of the Heron' by D.K. Broster. (More Jacobite than Drambuie.) Also, it's great to hear a classic Genesis song from their mid career 4-piece era, with a singer who hasn't the Phil Collins pop baggage on his back. (Much as I love him.) Steve Hackett was a major writing force for Genesis, which they lost & to my mind, never fully recovered, artistically. This singer reminds me of someone actually,,, (me) lol xx
Don't laugh hear me out. I recently hooked up my old 8-track player to my receiver with an EQ. the bass hit so hard at the end it overloaded my receiver. I have Wind on LP and digital, but the 8-track sounds the best. Call me crazy but listen to it that way. Tick of the Tail sounds awesome also (Dance on a Volcano and Squonk).has anyone else done this also, if you can try it out
Hackett it pieces!!!
i got it get this i seen this tour in australia it was the best
Oh, God!
It's like Peter Gabriel singing this one. Amazing!
I guess its like Peter Gabriel singing this tune if you wish , but this song was from their 2nd lp ( Wind and Wuthering) without him , meaning Phil Collins was their vocalist. Peter Gabriel never sang this song. Only saying.
Yes, but it's *like* PG singing a PC tune 🙂
@@stankatic8182 stan please don't do the 1st of the class.... carlos said oh my god it seems to hear gabriel singing this, it was implicit that Wind and Wuthering was without gabriel, wtf
@@XanAxDdu You are right, I was trying to say exactly that!
But my bad English language skils made my comment ambiguous, so I am sorry for the mistake.
Thank you for the help, man!
There's not even a milligram of pretense in Steve, is there? He just plays, and when they nail it, he looks like a happy little kid.
Epic.
Sad to say; the last influence of Steve in Genesis. After he left; only pop music noise remained.
Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve merci beaucoup !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4:16 I'm so happy that it went to 12 string guitar at that point. First time, I thought it was Rick Wakeman !
I remember when Genesis toured this album. The big swinging overhead mirrors with the lasers and the 10 billion watt light show. It was an unbelievable spectacle. Sounded pretty good too.
1978 was the mirror tour. 77 was the jumbo landing lights that you see on seconds out.
maravilloso
I love rock songs about Scottish uprisings!.....Excellent band!
Yeah, another failed Scottish uprising.
My old band covered this one. Not going to say it was as good as Steve, but I like to think we held our own.
Wind & Wuthering is my favourite Genesis album. I love all ”eras”, but this is as far away from straight forward rock as you can get (like Tony Banks once said).
Steve is the only member of Genesis who keeps the Legacy of this music❤
Superb musicianship. Great job by Nad signing an extremely difficult number. Not much Nick Beggs in this video. I wonder why.
Maybe the director isn't a fan of Nick's new fully tattooed arms...? ;)
Forget the tattoos! Listen to his sterling work, with Iona.
Gary O'Toole is an excellent drummer.
I think Genesis and Supertramp are the most artistic bands that have come out of the rock scene.
I agree with your choice of both bands. Both are my favorites.
Does Steve ever age ? Cliff Richard's got nothing on him !
nad ex choice of vocals keeps it real
love Nad!
makes me so sad what was to come after wind and wuthering.
Baby Jane always freaked me out !
mamma fa impressione, al contempo l'effetto nasale di collins e insieme il tocco di gola di gabriel, con l'incedere sulle aperture alla gabriel
génie en Live
The Genesis contribution for modern Pop Music is realy a new form of Classic Music. Nothing similar over the times.
Like the lead singer he takes it from Phil Collins to how Peter Gabriel may have did the song
I saw this live myself, great performance! But no one can replace the one of a kind drums of a Phil Collins
Why? He plays Phil's parts note perfect. I'll also point out that Phil is no longer playing...
Gary O'Toole is a genius player and can perform just as well!
I agree...great drummer but Phil has IT! Not the same and noticeably so~!
Has this ever been performed live with Phil on drums? I think, live Chester played the drums? Or did Phil play parts on the second drumset in this song?
I heard Steve Hacket band with this song in 2017 and I am really thankful he is keeping the flame. But hearing Genesis 1979 was the deeper experience to me. It might be the vocal-performance - Phil is the original in this song. ;)
Also the sound in 2017 was not my taste - too loud. Many details got lost.
Yes! Like lots of other folks, I love the Gabriel years of the band, but for me a big part of the reason is that I love hearing Phil on drums when they perform. No one did it better!
To his credit, this guy does an absolutely solid job.
Nad Sylvan is the closest thing to Peter Gabriel on the planet. Not only does he have the range, he has the presence.
He has neither
You are mad !
Last real Genesis album. After that, Steve left the band.
A Giant vocalist
Nad Sylvan is fine on some Genesis stuff (eg. Dance on a Volcano) but this is appalling!
he does a much better job of this song on the Live in Hammersmith video from 2013
Nad nails it again. Lucky enough to have seen this live in Cardiff on the tour. All the band on fire!
That's a joke... i hope?
He sounds flat in places.
Is Phil Lanzon and Andrew Latimer seen in the audience at this concert?
!!!!!!
Wish he didn't want the spotlight on him all the time
In the direction of where??
Nick Beggs fits!
היום קיבלתי את ה - דיוידי בחתימתו של סטיב.
Always giving me the heebies-jeebies... haunting and beautiful
1980 thinking of Lisbeth, a premonition for Patricia
Why is Gene Wilder smoking an unlit pipe in the beginning of this song?
Love Hackett and pre-80's Genesis. But.....if Daryl Steurmer was playing exactly these parts, many would complain about the noodling.
It's not Nad that's weak it's the guy on the mixing desk, he's allowing the singer to be drowned out.
Nope. Vocals are loud enough. I find that people either like Nad or they don't. I'm in the latter group. But hey...If you dig it don't let me or anyone else stop you.
funny that is how Tony used to drown out Steve!
who is the singer?
You're doing a great job Nad, don't listen to them!
Yep, Nad is EXCELLENT!
You must be family...
