- In this video you can enjoy the night cab ride - train driver's view on the famous and unique Wuppertal Suspension Railway (Schwebebahn) between the final stations of Oberbarmen BF station, Vohwinkel station and back in 4K/30 frames per second.
This journey leads us along the unique German Wuppertal Suspension Railway (Wuppertaler Schwebebahn). The line was originally called Eugen Langen Monorail Overhead Conveyor System, named for its inventor, Eugen Langen. It is the oldest electric elevated railway with hanging cars in the world and is a unique system in Germany. Construction of this suspension railway began in 1898 and the line was ceremoniously opened in 1901, with Emperor Wilhelm II taking a test ride with wife Auguste Viktoria.
The Schwebebahn runs along a route of 13.3 kilometres (8.3 mi), at a height of about 12 metres (39 ft) above the river Wupper between Oberbarmen and Sonnborner Straße (10 kilometres or 6.2 miles) and about 8 metres (26 ft) above the valley road between Sonnborner Straße and Vohwinkel (3.3 kilometres or 2.1 miles). Only four of the 20 stops run above solid ground. The entire trip takes about 30 minutes. More than 80,000 people use the suspension monorail on a daily basis.
In 2015 the first of 31 new vehicles Generation 15 or GTW 15 trains were introduced. Through the use of three-phase asynchronous motors, this is the first time that the possibility of energy recovery during braking has been exploited. The operating voltage has been increased from 600 to 750 volts. In terms of safety, an entirely new train safety system ETCS has been installed.
Wuppertal Schwebebahn has a sister suspension railway relationships with Shonan Monorail since 2018. Shonan Monorail is a suspension railway located in Kanagawa, Japan and connects the cities between Kamakura and Fujisawa.

I like the mysterious atmosphere when floating over the river.
@ArissonMercinova Yes, it is amazing.
I have seen many videos of this route, but all in daylight. What a treat to see it at night! Thank You!
@Libraryguy09 You are welcome. I am glad that you liked it.
I should have taken the opportunity to ride in this Wuppertal Schwebebahn when I visited Germany several times. But now I am too old and do not have the opportunity anymore.. I have been to Germany, Switzerland , Austria,, France, Italy, Netherland, UK and Finland. I missed all these places.
@marzukianuar4661 It is great to hear that you visited so many places. For sure you had many other great experiences.
I never tire of Schwebebahn cab ride videos. Night time is another level, though. Thanks!
Glad you like them! It is really impressive
The night ride was truly enchanting. Your videos typically don't showcase this perspective, making the night ride all the more captivating and unique.
@RunVirtual5 It is quite different, I agree. I think that it is so different from the ride during the day.
After watching this, I don't know how I lived without the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn 👍
@xaxoon69🙂
I so want to ride this one of these days.
I'm from Seattle, and have ridden our Monorail thousands of times. Be so interesting to ride one with the track ABOVE the train..
@TheUluxian I would like to ride the Seattle monorail one day. This Wuppertaler Schwebebahn is realy
great. Definitely something different.
I think this is the best quality of a night video I've ever seen!
@elmarberktold852 Thank you very much for this compliment.
@@x9466x Here I used the Insta 360 Ice Pro.
The Wuppertal Suspension Railway as it has never been shown before! A really interesting documentation of a technical masterpiece like this railway represents. Maybe there will be a few more evening and night trips on this channel, especially from urban areas. -
@montgomeryscott1656 Thank you for your support. It is a real masterpiece, this railway line. And it is very different to see it during the night. I wish you a nice Saturday.
That's so cool, evenbetter at night!
@williamsouthworth5275 It si different in the dark.
Such a great job with the low-light exposure. Perfectly balanced.
Thank you for the compliments.
Thanks greetings from Manchester❤❤❤❤
@JoshHodginsBwfc Thank you very much of your support.
Great. Schwebebahn by night🎉 Thank you.
Thank you for your support!
Absolutely fabulous example of engineering at its very best.
@alanmorgan9781 Nothing to add.👍
Wow! Great seeing this at night!! Thank you for posting.
@moosetraxx83 Glad you enjoyed it
Even though I live in Germany, I've never visited this great suspension railway in Wuppertal - I've clearly missed something!
Great pictures during the night journey, these lighting atmospheres at the entrances to stops, an often glittering reflection on the surface of the Wupper River - a night journey through an illuminated city naturally offers much more variety than a night journey on a railway train that is only illuminated every now and then Places and train stations touched...
It was worth installing the Go Pro on the outside: the image quality is simply fantastic without any annoying or dirty driver's cab windows 👍
🤔🤔 I'm not sure, but before the return journey from the depot in Oberbarmen to Vohwinkel, a nice gentleman stood at the end of the platform and waved friendly at the camera...
Since no one had to be behind the camera because it was filming from outside, this nice scene could have shown us the filmmaker himself... 😉😄
But it's all pure speculation 🙄
Many greetings 🖖
Fantástico!!!! ❤❤❤ Nunca imaginei a sensação de estar voando
@rosangelanina1868 kkk. Realmente, está ferrovia é máxima.
@@RailRelaxation vcs são do Brasil? Parabéns pelos vídeos!!!
@rosangelanina1868 Sim. Sou brasileiro. Obrigado.
Buona giornata e buona Domenica.
Ciao.
@DavideZerillo Grazie. Buona Domenica.
@@RailRelaxation Di niente, figurati.
I wouldn’t have guessed a night video of this ride would be so great. If I ever travel to Europe I’m going to try to make sure Wuppertal is on the itinerary. Could be done as a day trip from Amsterdam I think? It’s a long way from California though.
@jamesrea329 it is a long way from California, yes. But it is so unique, that it is worth a trip...you can get from Amsterdam to Wuppertal in a bit more than 3 hrs by train.
I was fascinated, not only by the train and all the support structure, but also by the night time circumstance. Really enjoyed. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it. It is very different during the night. It seems that you observe different things as you do in the daylight.
@brenoyana.142 Obrigado pelo seu comentário.
Another great experience - Thank you so much 👍👍👍👍👍
@US_Joe Glad you enjoyed it.
Lovely ride over the dark river at night. Thanks for including the reversing moves, too! I think the red dot and distance tracker got a bit confused at times, though.
@rbrwr I am glad that you enjoyed it. Yes, the data shown are GPS based and sometimes get a bit confused. But still I think it is good to have that data displayed.
Total cool!
@marcelmartin7424 I am glad that you liked it.
I could easily fall asleep to that noise. Used to love my free train trave on BR as a kid and teen would've loved riding this too, maybe one day I can get back to my German roots
@norofolkngood8960 If you will go there, it is definitely worth to visit.
Thanks 😊
@lupuswolf5068 Danke. I am glad that you enjoyed the ride.
Johnie Walker, since 1820/1865. till 2012. Wuppertaler Schwebebahn, since 1901, and still going strong. 🥂
@rikardlalic7275 It is still ¸¸like new¸¸
fantastic video again...would love to see some transport like that in ireland
@paulpower2528 That would be cool!
Great video. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, will do!
Nice Video.
@holtenauer63🙂
Herrliche Bildqualität
Vielen Dank.
@Igor-Mortis You are welcome.
I really have to take a ride there.😊
@Sudonas I agree and totally recommend.

@Luis4959 Gracias.
Accidenti, addirittura l'ETCS! Notevole.
Tolles Video👍👍
@nurfilme Danke!
So nice videos
@pranowobaris94 Thanks.
@@RailRelaxation very good
Amazing! Great video quality! How did you manage to mount the camera outside? Did you cooperate with the tram company and got a special permit? Greetings from Koblenz, Germany 🇩🇪
👏👏👏😲👍
Thank you
Wow! It's a shame, however, that my father hates traveling at night... he says that "you can't see anything!!"
He insists on an Aosta... Cuneo route.... 🤷♀️
@BeardyChild I am sorry to hear that. I am not sure when I will be able to film that one..
Never tire of this ride, imagine if fairy lights were on pylons, lighting up the river at night too. What a tourist attraction Germany or Wuppertal would have.
@aussiejeff8391 For sure it would be even more interesting for the tourists.
Tolles Video.
@Taiger81 I think it is running.
@kirchenglockentv Yes, I will show the speed again. Sometime the data is not very accurate so I do not display it.
Funny train or tram 😅😅
@JoshHodginsTrains This is different..
@RailRelaxation it's nice mate
😮👍
👍
European Train Control System (ETCS) is the train protection. No light signalling.
@amskirven Danke. I apologize if I put it wrong..
Another gerat work and a drive that I never saw before. But with the same error I mentioned before: It‘s Loher Brücke and not Locher Brücke (40‘39‘‘) 😉
@peterthill I apologise for that. I did not remember to correct it before publishing.
@@RailRelaxation I apologize, but as a native of Wuppertal, this is noticeable. But don't let that stop you and keep up the good work!
Beautiful. But I prefer to stay with his feet on the ground

Quando riproporrai una linea italiana? Mi piacerebbe vedere la Torino Cuneo, la Torino Milano AV e la Milano Brescia AV
@massaroroberto9954 I don't know yet. I am trying to organise , but especially HS lines are not very easy..
@LUIZCARLOSSILVA4489 Abraço. Não cai, não.
better than cars but if there were only trains like this that would be a problem I think, like people in Japan don't even have a free space to move on the trains
@Gaiwwie I think if you have a combination of both is a winning situation.
Die Station heißt Loher Brücke nicht Locher 😂
@xriderxlog9945 I apologize for the mistake. Thank you.
14:14 Was ist das für eine Plattform?
@stephanteam9294 It is a platform for maintenance.
@ExcitingNightmare It is 8.30 eur for a 24-hour ticket.
Do those trains still have drivers?
@HelloHelloXD Yes, they do.
@@RailRelaxation thanks. BTW what camera do you use and how do you mount it?
@HelloHelloXD I use a GoPro camera. I mount it on the locomotive.
@@RailRelaxation thank you and keep up the good work
@HelloHelloXD You are welcome. I will.
@user-vj6qz1lr3t Oh, I am not sure about this.
Personally, I prefer exterior camera with exterior sound for trains and trams. It's closer to reality, more technical. I'm not interested so much in the passenger view and comfort. Of course, everyone is entitled to it's own opinions and preferences .
@BerndFunken I mount camera outside because the quality of the picture.
@aramisr.4305 Thank you for sharing your opinion with us. I agree, I prefer the external camera too.
@@RailRelaxation well, you could then use a "dead cat" to protect the microphone from the wind.
@BerndFunken I do use it, but sometimes the wind is to strong...I have been figuring out some other solutions...
