  • This sequence kicks off the Act 2 Finale of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera The Pirates of Penzance. Major-General Stanley, too troubled to sleep, wanders the grounds of his estate in the middle of the night, ignorant of the fact that you couldn't swing a stick without hitting barely-concealed pirates or police. (he also apparently doesn't hear them singing along with him lol)
I am a contralto profondo, the lowest cis female vocal type, and am singing every part at pitch indicated in score, including General Stanley's solo, which is written for baritone! Returning viewers may recall that I sang this song last month: • Sighing softly to the ... well this time not only is the footage in glorious HD, I keep Stanley's voice in "old man" vocal posture throughout instead of worrying about proving that I can sing all pretty. Staying in character, what a concept!
