I can never again watch anything coming from Hollywood! Bravo!!!
The finale of Act 1 is a fabulous piece of opera. I must say that the Tokyo company's redition here brought a tear to my eye
I was exposed to G&S by my father's involvement in the Rugby Theatre. I grew up with many songs from G&S, but formed a firm favourite with Iolanthe.
G&S took on the ridiculing of politicians in a way that has no real modern parallel, Iolanthe being the supreme example of this. From the start, through the story, via Private Willis' song to the finale, the House of Lords (or Peers) and the House of Commons are shown to be the shambles that is running the country. I enjoyed the clips from the operettas that I haven't seen before and can detect the musical theme that runs through them all. I will be adding the gsopera bookmark to my list.
The best is the Japanese production of "The Mikado;" proof positive that 'cultural appropriation' works equally well in reverse!
Bravooo ...
It's been too long since I've smiled this much. Many Thanks!
Wonderful!
“This royal throne of kings, this sceptered isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands,--This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.” and, we have G & S too !
The Mikado in Japanese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is fantastic!!!!
Amazing Channel. Whoa!
What a bunch of absolutely wonderful weirdos.
"With Catlike Tread" should have more swashbuckling.
The thumbs down are from the never-satisfied bishop ghost in Ruddigore Castle and from Ida's poor father King Gama who both complain about their omissions.
Cory bear polytechnic tandon nyu metrotech has always liked gillbet and sullivan
was part of this from Utopia Limited?
It certainly was! A professional production, produced at The International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in 2011
@@BestGandS Is that Bruce Graham as Mr Goldbury?
From a time when the UK influenced America and not the other way around.
The quasi-erudite need not attend. Only True Believers are admitted.
Short of the Holy Trinity, all others fall short of our Miraculous Triumvirate.
Translations of the Japanese version of MIKADO are available at a special family rate.
Dont give up your day jobs !!!!!!!!
Oh heaven, this is really boring.
