I loved the video but one thing I can't understand is why people think 9-5 jobs are the worst thing that someone can be doing, I mean I'm a freelancer and someone could think that the inconsistency that comes with it can be the worst thing in the world. We all choose differents paths, no better than the other, just different.
Not even 10 seconds into the vid and my good sis is already speaking on the toxicity of the system of capitalism and its emphasis on productivity yes girl!!
“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” omg i haven't heard this quote before and i love it! thank you!!
Thank you for this video Amy! I loved hearing you say right off the bat, “I don’t believe in failure.” Maybe it’s an Asian thing but my family only defined success as NOT failing. The concept of living with failure has been engrained in me to the point that I view my wins as “just not failing.” I hardly celebrate the wins and just try not to fail in the future. I think I’m going to consciously practice embracing the fear of failure and really use it as a compass to know what I love! Hope that makes sense. Thank you again for the video! 💕
Amy, thank you so much for this video. I'm a Chinese as a second language teacher in the making, and I just did my first teaching demonstration. I did my best preparing it. However, I did some mistakes when I'm teaching. I was so frustrated because I have very high standards for myself. I was even thinking about giving up. But you encourage me to try and try. Thank you again Amy! 😍 love from Taiwan
Really needed to hear this! I've been focusing on my channel to grow in the past month and it can be jarring and sad to not see tangible results especially when others ask to prove how well it's doing. I just know it's one step at a time and I just have to keep going or I'll just stay in the same place. We need to learn how to not be afraid of failure!
This video comes exactly in time, thank you Amy! Your positivity is so soothing and I like your thoughts about time versus success and failure (or not failure in your belief) versus ways of being success. Me and my friends are figuring out our way and I need a girl friend/advisor like you, glad you are here and not “failing”! Thank you! X
Thank you so much Amy! I was lost in college bc of my major (I listened to what my mom wanted me to study) and I dragged so bad. I was worried that I will not be happy but stop said at least it wil make me happy. In short, turns out that I need to trust my self and focus on what I have to do. And now I switched my major thati trust will make me happy inside and out. I'm found this year and there's a new light coming mg way!😊😊😊😊
AMY! THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT SUCH A TABU TOPIC!!! THANK YOUUU everyone always says about how failure is a way of learning but they never trully talk about their failures! THANK YOU u are beautiful
Just came home after being rejected for an internship program. Even though they loved me in the interview, because I 'failed' at the general skill exam, they rejected me. I was pretty disappointed at myself. THEN I saw this video. It was like just when I needed the most. So thank you very much!! You are an awesome person!
I really needed this Amy! I’m at this point in my life where I’m currently going through ‘failure’. This really helped. Ur like the sister I never had. Thank you for ur energy 💘
I'm sure SO many people have said this but damn, I NEEDED to see this video!! I used to get so discouraged by the numbers and now all I focus on is the people, the community and bringing value to them and myself. Love your content always, Amy!
I just graduated high school and feel like my life, and i myself, have much potential but still have little motivation so this should help me out. Love you
Just what I needed! I got so busy with life recently that I literally had to catch up with your videos! Love the AM with Amy series! Keep it up, Amy 💛⭐️✨
Omg amy... you have no idea how much this video meant. I live in a family that money, getting married and having a corporate job is success. I am going to college this fall and im honestly so lost. But thank you so much for reminding me to be fearless about life 💖💖
I don't like to link 9-5 day job to a mundane lifestyle, because it generalises anyone who do work those hours are "mundane", and anyone who don't do those hours are the exceptions, so it could turn the mindset that from "I'm good with 9-5" to "wait? am I failing because I do do 9-5?" it all comes down to, do you enjoy what you do in that 8-12 hour timeframe?
This message couldn’t have come at a more perfect time... 💖 I have a job interview tomorrow that I have never wanted/needed more in my life... LAW OF ATTRACTION PLEASE COME THROUGH!! And if not, it wasn’t meant to be! I’ll figure it out!!! THANKS AMY!
Loved this look - loved everything you talked about - love love love!!!! I completely agree - I think social pressures also create that systemic 9-5 job!
Thank you Amy for this vid ;; it is something I do need because I'll be soon going to college and I will confront more of this stuff. I truly appreciate every talk you make in your youtube channel and always stay humble and sending my love and hugs.
I'm not afraid of failure. I'm afraid of the agonizing _shit show_ that goes on inside my head whenever I'm actually genuinely showing up for life, e.g. doing things that have the _potential_ for failure (talking to people, going to auditions, taking singing lessons, chasing my dreams, etc.) because my brain will never, ever, ever stop talking like Eeyore or like a comic book villain. I don't know what I'm supposed to do, it's so fucking tiring, but I guess just doing it anyway is the smartest thing to do. Because it's still my decision whether I'm gonna act on these voices or not, and also.. they're "just" thoughts, I guess. PS if anyone has any tips on overcoming what I've described that would be great thank you xoxo
I really needed this because right now I'm on a path for a career in business and I know it's not my true passion. I've been wanting to start uploading dance covers because I believe performing arts is my true passion, but I was always very anxious about whether or not I'd be good enough or if people will even watch them. But this video gave me the push I needed. :) LOVE YA AMY
I have always loved your speeches when your doing your makeup. I remember when you were deciding if you should be a youtube full tikme and now look at you. You better live girl!
I don't think there's anything wrong with a 8-5 job. I think you can still believe that failure is part of redirection and not want to pursue something out of the norm...it's perfectly okay to live a regular life
I found you not too long ago and honestly I love your perspective about life.. I can really relate to you and I'm honestly inspired to do my own little talks like these on my channel for sure💕I love being open and sharing my insightful thoughts, what advice can you give me?🙈
You are my inspo honestly! Also I think part of this whole traditional concept of failure is also tied to the idea that we are in control of 100% of the things that we do/ that happen to us - which is so not true! There are so many externalities that affect us that we never consider even for ourselves or for other people (successful or not!) so part of overcoming the feelings of “failing” or even overcoming the fear of potentially failing (which would in effect stop you from pursuing something) is to realise the externalities that you don’t / can’t control, that there is some element of luck involved too in certain situations, and to be kind to ourselves and give ourselves a pat on the back for trying in the first place! Side note - I feel like every time I watch one of these I’m like thinking to myself that you’re my soul sistaaaah!
Hey! I love your videos! I never miss one :) Just a few things. I kind of feel like you have two different ideas going on in this video. On one hand you say that true failure is giving up, and on the other you say that there is no such thing as true failure... as due to the law of attraction if you really wanted that goal then you would have done everything in your power to do so. So in regards to your friends who stopped uploading they didn't necessarily give up/fail, but chose a different path for themselves (because, unlike you, they didn’t have the resilience for CZcams… but they do for something else). The latter reminds me of the book "The Subtle Art of not Giving a Fuck" - specifically the part in which the author talks about enjoying the process/struggle of the goal you are trying to achieve. I also don’t agree with the putting down of 9-5 jobs. For many people, a job itself is a goal or dream. It could be a means to an end. Many people dream of being able to support their families or pay their bills or their car. Not everyone has the ability to live beyond convention, or even wants to pursue creative/passionate outlets. I hope that we all do one day! (Although I do wonder if we will ever get to a point in which nobody has to do a job they don’t want to do). But in the meantime let’s not put down those who do not (even though I understand it feeds into the system/patriarchy/etc). I also don’t think it is just a “concept” of failure created by the system that keeps those from pursuing their goals, but a ton of other physical bureaucratic obstacles that play a huge and very real part. That is all! Feel free to critique if I understood incorrectly. I also get that your video is conversational and you can't touch on every nuance of failure hahaha. not a hate comment I just had some thoughts so I thought I would share. Thank you for making me think so deeply this monday night!!! Sending lots of love from NY x
Hi sabeen! Thanks for such a thoughtful comment! You’re right, it’s two things but not different. Failing to me would be not pursuing my dream, but in no way does that imply those friends of mine who stopped doing CZcams were failures. They were on a different path! These ideas thus can be concurrent and not mutually exclusive. And nowhere in this video did I put down 9-5s. I was speaking for those who hate their 9-5s, for those who dream of being their own bosses (a great majority but not all). Also on a philosophical level, I do believe that the concept of failure is what stops people. Just as the concepts of race and gender and sexual orientation continue to divide us, bureaucracies/economies/etc or not- Social constructs meant to impede us as a human race. But we can agree to disagree :-) these are just my ruminations hehe no right or wrong!
Thank you thank you for reply!! These are the best discussions. Thank you more than anything though for all the food for thought in all your videos. Keep up all of your great work and I look forward to your videos :)
Hi Amy, you talk a lot about discipline and perseverance and even overcoming failure but how do you know when to give up? Is the answer just never? Please share x luv u
I'm going to go off topic here, and talk about your Kauai trip.... Girl!!!!!!! That was crazy!! so glad it all turned out good. And now I just wanna know .... would you do it again? Also... Dolly looks like such a sweetheart... Hi Dolly!
I don't believe in the concept of failure and here's why you shouldn't either.
Edit: watching this later and L O L I'm a walking quote book.
I'd HELLA buy a curated quote book by you
Wow I Love You♥️ You are so inspiring and you always motivate me!
me too!!!
Go to work, pay for your car. Go to work to pay for that car. And use that car to go to work. Pretty much my life in 3 sentences.
failure is even more difficult to deal with especially when everyone else around you is successful and thriving
Rejection 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 redirection 👏🏼
I loved the video but one thing I can't understand is why people think 9-5 jobs are the worst thing that someone can be doing, I mean I'm a freelancer and someone could think that the inconsistency that comes with it can be the worst thing in the world. +Rocio San Román Yesss I agree with your exact sentiment~! We all choose different paths and as long as it works for you, it works for you ^_^
Not even 10 seconds into the vid and my good sis is already speaking on the toxicity of the system of capitalism and its emphasis on productivity yes girl!!
chai-lattae 😂😂❤️
i want amy to do a ted talk one day
“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” omg i haven't heard this quote before and i love it! thank you!!

Arielle Abelon that’s so interesting but not unheard of in asian cultures! Loved reading this and your thoughbs

That Thomas E. quote is a lie. Cuz he stole lots of other peoples ideas, so basically he found 10,000 ways to steal lmao
