My grand parents fled Russia in 1911. They were Germans that had been recruited to farm the steppes. Things were going down hill in Russia and many Germans from Russia ended up in Lincoln, NE, USA. Lots of Latvians came here after WW2. My next door neighbors are Ukrainian. Seems like within a couple of generations you can't tell where people are from. Politicians ruin countries. Hope you find comfort wherever you settle.

The old man that used to come haul our trash to the dump was born in Russia. His parents fled Russia to come to the U.S. and they both died on the way. He was an orphaned boy, alone, in a new country so they put him on an orphan train and sent him out here to an orphanage on the Nebraska prairie where he grew up and lived out his life. I thought that was so sad but he was always cheerful and smiling.

I want to add a big Thank You for doing this. It is wonderful of you to help him out. Like everyone else, I believed that he would remain in St. Petersburg for much longer, but for his safety, I'm glad that he (and you!) left Russia when you did. Almost all of my Russian vloggers have left Russia, or are trying to do so. (Crazy) Sergey has turned up in Mongolia, and you're in Georgia. Wow! Such a huge exodus. Be careful and be safe! I one hundred per cent affirm your thanks to Natasha for helping Niki. I will be interested in hearing from Natasha in her next video how she is adjusting to life in her new country and city. I wonder what impact she thinks the 10s of thousands of young Russian men fleeing conscription in Russia will have on her and other Russians who arrived earlier and for more ideological reasons opposing the war. I'm sure there are some of those in the new arrivals but a lot are fleeing sacrificing themselves in a pointless war, which I understand, but some were mouthing support for the war until they actually were called up to participate and lose their life. Will she help some of them become adjusted to their new city and life? Is she helping others, like Niki, escape? How does she think Georgians will react to the Russian draft dodgers. I saw some protests at the border and they didn't look too happy at the Russians streaming in.

Well done to leave. I'm only surprised it took so long. Where can you go from Baku? I had only one guess ... and I recognised Zack's voice before we saw him, which only confirmed the answer. When I was waiting for a USA H-1B visa after my similar Russian work visa ended (in 2018) I considered resting in Georgia, as it is maybe the only country in the world where I could visit for 12 months without a visa. In the end I spent just less than 6 months at home in NZ (less, so as not to regain tax residency), and then five months in Fiji. Russians also can be four months in Fiji without a visa by the way -- and you only have to leave for a day or two and return to get another four months.

There seems to be a huge Russian minority there and since a) they didn't even fight for their own state and let Putin have free reign, because most of what Russians do is flee and complain that "not everyone is like that" b) having a large russian minority seems to be a big reason for getting invaded to "protect their needs"; so, as a state, having many russians living inside your borders is like a jackpot in having only problems facing your future and no actual help to expect from them.

It's definitely a sad thing to leave the home country, but it's a reminder to all of us - we can be left in a very unfortunate position because of the politics. Sometimes it seems so distant, but eventually it has significant impact on every individual. Stay strong, Natasha, be independent, keep doing what is best for you!

@ihor exactly, I came here to say the same thing. This isn’t mere “politics”, it’s pure physical destruction and horror. It’s thousands of people being killed, maimed, raped, tortured, and disenfranchised. These horrors are perpetrated by hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers and supported by millions of every day Russian people.

Some people just prefer that to being the minority with no future (jail, execution, deportation to inhospitable Siberia or gulags) in a country with no hope as many people eat pro-Kremlin lies than the hard truth (which is also escapism).

Hi Natasha! I’m so happy to hear that you have decided to take the leap into this new chapter in your life. I wish you good luck and all the best that life has to offer in this world. I hope this is the beginning of a new life filled with peace and joy and freedom of expression for you. I’m so excited to see how this new freedom will allow you to grow and create. And, also, I think your response to the airport employee was an obvious and normal reaction because you were already nervous and anxious about your trip, so your guard may have been up and instinctively were defensive when questioned . I think it would have been different and expected if airport personnel questioned you like that on your way INTO the country and not on the way out. Sending good vibes your way.
